The home was very clean when we arrived. We found the house just as advertised. Rooms were spacious and nicely decorated. The only trouble we had while we were there was a kitchen sink plumbing problem, and once they were notified about it, it was resolved within the day. Easy to work with.
This was a great house for our group of eight. Our host gave us easy information for arrival and departure. It is a short walk to the beach and having a wagon and beach stuff already there made it easy for us. The house has lots of common places for people to all be together or find a quiet spot for yourself. Bedrooms and baths were comfortable and quiet. Beautiful home, very comfortable. Would certainly go there again.
We booked this home for a week's stay and we have nothing but high praise for both the home and the owner, Kathryn. The instructions for check-in and check-out could not have been clearer. The home itself is quite roomy, with four private bedrooms a large living room and a terrific outdoor patio. It is beautifully restored and decorated. There was plenty of space for our large group to spread out or come together. The online pictures are definitely an accurate representation of the home. If anything, the rooms were larger than I expected. We ate in most of the time so we were thankful for fully stocked kitchen supplies and roomy fridge. We used the coffeemaker all the time. There's also a nice heavy duty mixer for my brother to make his daily veggie shakes.
To the extent I have a nit, it would be that because this is a restored older home, only one of the rooms had air conditioning. Usually that's not an issue in Oceanside - but it just happened to be an unseasonably warm and humid week when we were there. So we had the ceiling fans and the windows open at night just to make ourselves a little more comfortable.
The home is perfect for a vacation house in that it came equipped with ALL the gear for a great day at the beach - from boogie boards, to beach chairs and umbrellas, towels, to wagons for hauling all of it. There's also a useful outdoor shower for cleaning off the sand.
On the technology side, the wifi was very zippy - which was surprising considering almost everyone had a smart phone or tablet running. There's a large TV in the living room and a healthy collection of DVD's - including Mrs. Doubtfire which we watched in honor of Robin Wiliams.
The best part of the home was its location. The beach is about a half mile walk down the street and our kids were able to walk or ride their skateboards down several times a week. The downtown area is also a short walk away - there is a Thursday evening Farmers Market that is about as festive as they get. We ate in every night so I can't really comment on the nearby restaurants. However, there are plenty of places to get craft beer nearby, and it looks like they are building a couple more brewpubs down the street. So the downtown area is definitely showing signs of gentrification.
Kathryn's home is perfect for a relaxing family vacation. I would highly recommend it.
