Private bathroom and bedroom in quiet neighborhood. Centrally located on Kauai for ease of travel to all parts of the island. We are a friendly couple who enjoy sharing space and meeting new people.
Centrally located on Kauai, our home is clean, quiet, beautiful and eco-friendly. We have a guest bedroom available to rent (11’x12’) with lovely queen bed and private adjacent bathroom with shower and tub. We love living here and hope that you will enjoy our home as much as we do.
We are situated in a private setting with amazing views of Mt. Waialeale. From the guest room waterfalls can often be seen on the mountains. Your private bathroom is tiled (floor and shower) and has granite countertops. There is also an outdoor shower you are welcome to use (we describe that experience as a cross between a day at the spa and camping, as you look up at the bamboo gently swinging in the breeze). :)
Our home decor is minimalist for a peaceful feel of relaxed comfort. We are happy to give ideas about food, adventures, etc...or give you space to enjoy the island as you will.

Interaction with Guests
We enjoy interaction with guests as our schedules permit. However, we let guests decide the degree of interaction they are comfortable with. Whether you want a quiet stay with minimal interaction or you enjoy a wide variety of conversations, we are accommodating and comfortable sharing space either way.
It is peaceful and relaxing here in our neighborhood and we are tucked back off the road and have open spaces beyond our home for beautiful views.
Rental cars are necessary for Kauai as public transportation is minimal. Always check under the floor panels where the spare tire is for cockroach infestation (very common here).
Other Things to Note
Our goal is to provide you with exactly what you see in our pictures and description. Clean, comfortable, peaceful. No unpleasant surprises here :)
This property is non-smoking.
Please drive slowly and carefully in our neighborhood (small children playing).
Please be careful to wash beach sand off yourself before coming onto the Lanai or entering the house.
Please respect Hawaiian custom and remove all shoes before entering the house.
Quiet time is 10pm to 8am.
No mangos at the property please. Ava has severe allergy. Please enjoy them at the farmers market or at the beach, washing hands carefully before returning.
Before you leave the rental car place: Please check under the seats and especially under floor panel (where the spare tire is kept) for cockroach infestation. Some of the rental cars are infested and they can end up in your stuff and our home. Please request a different car if the one they give you is infested.
Please change your rental car lock setting so that it does not honk when you lock it, or lock it manually so the noise doesn't disturb the neighbors.
We were very warmly greeted but we quickly noticed they have too many rules. We were immediately given a lecture on proper foot washing technique for after the beach, including which parts of the foot to focus on! My boyfriend was scolded in a condescending tone for 'slamming'the door one morning by Brett. Then when we arrived home that night, Ava decided she wanted to make a big deal about the door slamming incident which had already been addressed. We are very respectful and laid back people but it was difficult to relax and enjoy ourselves when around such high strung people. I mean is Hawaii, let's all relax a little. If you are looking for the aloha experience, look elsewhere.
Aloha Hillary and Saul,
Let us first say this: Airbnb in general, and shared space in particular works because both hosts and guests are considerate, respectful, friendly, and polite. We did notice that you and Saul had a hard time with some of these on your first day here. Even so, it was surprising to us to get such a poor review from you since you thanked us profusely and even hugged us before you left.
We do have rules, these are clearly posted on our airbnb page under ‘house rules’. We wish you would have reviewed them before requesting to stay with us. One of our ‘rules’, which is really just courtesy, is to have quiet time between 10p-8a. We often have guests up really late, or getting up really early, but they are considerate and quiet, so there is never any problem. Please see the review from Greg below as an example of how this works.
Your first morning here you got up at 4:45 am, which is when you started SLAMMING doors. You did this SEVEN times between 4:45 and 5:45. At this point, we should tell our readers that our doors are not normal doors. Most doors inside houses are hollow on the inside to make them lighter, our doors are solid wood which is quite heavy and EXTREMELY loud if slammed. We were startled wide awake with the first slam. After about the 3rd we started wondering if you were having a fight. After 6 slams Brett decided to get up and get dressed to see what was going on. We have NEVER had anyone repeatedly slam doors here in over 2 years of hosting guests, so we were quite confused. So, Brett says: ”Good morning, Saul, could I ask you a favor, could you please try to close the doors gently?" This is the courteous, respectful way a host asks a guest to do something that will promote the peace and harmony of the house. Strangely and confusingly, Saul's reply was odd even defensive, no apologies like are normal and expected in such a situation...I quote: "Oh, we are just getting used to them.” Then he turned, and walked into the bathroom and slammed the door AGAIN. Very strange.
I, Ava, spent a very tired day wondering what all the door slamming was about, and worried that the next morning you might still be “getting used to the doors”, so that evening I politely asked you that if you are up before 8 am to please close the doors softly. My request was met by blank stares from both of you and awkward silence. So, I changed the subject and asked about your day. It was very strange that you never did apologize, but everyone has their idiosyncrasies, so we just let it go. We thought the rest of your stay was quite pleasant and there was no more door slamming.
We have no idea why you were offended that Brett showed you the hose to wash the sand off your feet, we have shown this to all our guests during orientation for over 2 years. Washing sand off before you come in the house is also listed very clearly under ‘house rules’. He may have told you that sometimes the sand sticks in the hollows above your heels, which again, was us just trying to be courteous.
We hope that future potential guests will read the ‘house rules’ so that if they feel there are too many rules they can stay elsewhere where they might be more comfortable. We love to host kind, considerate people from around the world and will continue to do so with *ALOHA* :)
What a perfect stay! Not only was the house immaculate and comfortable, but our hosts were fabulous as well! We were off on adventures during most of the day, but we loved coming home to chat with Ava and Brett before turning in and getting a great night of sleep in the very comfortable bed. We were very sad to leave Kauai but feel like we left having made 2 great new friends.
Ava and Brett's home is a perfect, serene oasis in paradise. The pictures here capture it perfectly (seriously, everything looks *exactly* like this), except that they were taken on a cloudy day, and so you miss the SPECTACULAR views from the lanai of Kauai's mountains. Many an hour were spent sitting (or swinging in the hammock!) and gazing at the view. It is a truly beautiful place.
The location is also terrific independent of the view. You're away from the hubbub, but centrally located, leaving the entire island an easy morning drive away. We drove to Anini, Tunnels, Ke'e, or Poipu beaches or Hanalei Bay most mornings. We also could easily get to Waimea Canyon (a *must see*) and even Poihale State Park (ok, maybe not easily, given the terrible dirt road at the end, but pretty quickly!) on the far west end of the island.
Ava and Brett also provide you with everything you could possibly need for a day at the beach, whether you want to snorkel, boogie board, or just drink some beers from a cooler sitting in beach chairs under an easy-up.
We've had quite a few Airbnb stays, but this was our first time staying in someone's home *with them*, which we were a bit unsure of. My wife and I are pretty quiet, introverted people. We felt welcome from the moment we arrived, had a great time chatting with them when we felt up to it, and felt no qualms about slipping quietly into our private space to do some reading. Brett and Ava also clearly made an effort to be quiet in their own home while we were sleeping off our jet lag at 7pm, which was greatly appreciated! We were sure to return the favor when we were up at 6
Brett and Ava are a delight; extremely helpful and courteous hosts! They are very personable and quite helpful with assisting us figure out what would make our trip amazing and memorable. My wife and I highly recommend staying here to anyone considering. A beautiful home, centrally located, and outstanding hosts. We will be back!!!
Ava and Brett were extremely welcoming. We were only there for 2 nights, but they were the 2 best nights of sleep we've had in a long time. Ava and Brett have provided white noise machines and earplugs, so you can leave all the windows open to the fresh air and not be roused by the roosters that are found everywhere in Kauai. Their home is spacious, exceptionally clean and bright with all the windows. We hope to visit again soon.
Ava and Brett were very friendly and informative. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Great hosts!
this is my third stay with ava and brett, so i don't exaggerate when i say their place is among the finest you can find. apart from a fantastic place to stay (clean, central, organic and beautiful sums it up perfectly), you also get to meet a truly delightful couple full of amazing stories and brilliant insights. they're as passionate about hosting and connecting with people as they've been at the very beginning (i happen to be their first guest), but they're also happy to give you as much space as you need. in short, my highest recommendation!
Things we love are: positive thinking, gratitude, health and fitness, clean/organic eating, nature, alternative medicine, learning, meditation, sharing, caring, and being happy. Brett is a lifelong martial artist and has studied most major martial art forms. He is currently studying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Ava's hobbies include cooking and reading great books.
We believe that life is about the way we touch the lives of those around us and that in this life, happiness can be the only true measure of success. Blessings & Aloha
