This cottage was everything I wanted for an overnight getaway to the Russian River. It was homey, welcoming, with just enough privacy. The setting is gorgeous: secluded and surrounded by redwoods.
What really made our visit extra special was the warm and generous reception we got from Mark. He couldn't have been nicer. The bakery that he and his family run next door is delicious and lovely.
Mark went out of his way to make us feel welcome, plus he gave us a GREAT dinner recommendation that we wouldn't have found without him.
My boyfriend and I visited during a short spring break, we could only stay one night but wish it was much longer! We were suppose to stay at the Elim Grove cottage but because of a previous guest leaving a mess Mark let us stay in the Paradise Grove cottage with no extra charge! Mark greeted us with delicious pastries and bread then recommended some amazing sights to see and places to eat. We awoke the next morning with a tray of breakfast full of many choices from his wife Elizabeth! The property is beautiful as is the entire area even our drive back home (which Mark recommended) was absolutely gorgeous. We can't wait to return again they are such amazing hosts!!
We had a wonderful time and Mark was such a gracious and nice host it really made our get away so much better. We have a baby and a toddler and it was so nice to be welcomed in a family friendly environment. Mark's kids were kind enough to share toys and be sweet to our kids. Also we were greeted with a great breakfast of fresh pastries and coffee. I left my make up bag and mark was kind enough to mail it for free. We will definitely stay again. Highly recommended.
Mark was so welcoming, accommodating, and friendly. We had such a nice time, we kept talking about canceling our plans and staying longer! Delicious breakfast, cozy cabins, and an idyllic setting.
What a wonderful retreat. Mark met me with a hospitality unmatched, and his knowledge of his land is incredible. He. Is. An. Incredible. Baker. Eat his pastries- they are awesome:) What an oasis for an evening of deep rest! One of the great things about this place is that it's so close to Guerneville for a fine dinner, and also so steeped in 1000 year old redwoods, you can't help but forget all about your cell phone, which will most likely not receive service (sprint). So if you need to take a breath, this is the place. (he also has awesome dvd's, like This American Life and Flight of the Conchords)
An amazing hide a way with access to redwoods over a thousand years old and the California coast. The bakery is filled with delicious treats and wonderful people. A welcoming family feel and they love pets too!
The cottage was very sweet. When we got there, there was a nice fire in the wood stove, and everything was clean and well prepared. Elizabeth, Mark's wife, met us and showed us around. The cottage is right next to their bakery and as it was a Friday night we had pizza and listened to live bluegrass right there. The place was hopping and there was a real community feel with families and friends gathered to eat and relax. (The cottage was quiet, though. No sounds from the road or the bakery were detectable during the night.) Elizabeth checked in during dinner to make sure we were having a good time. The cottage was comfortable and cozy and the next morning we enjoyed the pastries and coffee for breakfast. Everyone there was very nice -- all the employees very accommodating and helpful. All in all a very satisfactory stay.

Twelve years ago my wife and I fell in love with an abandoned restaurant with four tired cottages on three acres of wild blackberries and old growth redwoods on Austin Creek. It has been an exhausting/exhilarating labor of love that has enriched our lives in more ways than we ever imagined. We hope that you will enjoy it as much as we have!
