What a wonderful retreat. Mark met me with a hospitality unmatched, and his knowledge of his land is incredible. He. Is. An. Incredible. Baker. Eat his pastries- they are awesome:) What an oasis for an evening of deep rest! One of the great things about this place is that it's so close to Guerneville for a fine dinner, and also so steeped in 1000 year old redwoods, you can't help but forget all about your cell phone, which will most likely not receive service (sprint). So if you need to take a breath, this is the place. (he also has awesome dvd's, like This American Life and Flight of the Conchords)
An amazing hide a way with access to redwoods over a thousand years old and the California coast. The bakery is filled with delicious treats and wonderful people. A welcoming family feel and they love pets too!
The cottage was very sweet. When we got there, there was a nice fire in the wood stove, and everything was clean and well prepared. Elizabeth, Mark's wife, met us and showed us around. The cottage is right next to their bakery and as it was a Friday night we had pizza and listened to live bluegrass right there. The place was hopping and there was a real community feel with families and friends gathered to eat and relax. (The cottage was quiet, though. No sounds from the road or the bakery were detectable during the night.) Elizabeth checked in during dinner to make sure we were having a good time. The cottage was comfortable and cozy and the next morning we enjoyed the pastries and coffee for breakfast. Everyone there was very nice -- all the employees very accommodating and helpful. All in all a very satisfactory stay.
As always, we had a fantastic stay. Mark and Elizabeth always make us feel right at home - and a part of the family and community that they've built out in just-remote-enough Cazadero.
Hang out by the fire pit, enjoying the company of other guests, or retreat to the seclusion of your cozy cabin. If you are looking for a romantic getaway near some of the most majestic forests on the planet, this is the place for you. Oh, and Friday night Pizza and live music help to complete an overall exceptional experience.
Finally, if you love the rain, come during rainy season. Cazadero enjoys about 20% more rainfall than surrounding areas. The entire area comes alive with rivulets and waterfalls all around.
Mark was the most welcoming and gracious host. When we arrived Mark offered us a glass of wine, and we ended up spending the evening talking and making pizza on the grill (his grilled pizza is reason enough to go to Raymond's Bakery). The cottage was so sweet, warm, and clean. The location was ideal as well- so close to the coast, but secluded and smack in the middle of redwoods. Really, we couldn't have been happier. I would highly recommend that any one take the opportunity to stay at the Elim Cottage and experience the relaxation and friendship that can find you there.
Mark was an excellent host, the best I have had the opportunity to experience via Airbnb. He gave me great directions and note about the area before we arrived and graciously served us delicious wine and baguettes along with the most delicious chocolate brownies and cherry tart I have tasted. The property is by a quaint and pretty creek with the gorgeous Sonoma State Beach Park not too far away. Mark helped us find a dining place and made reservations for us. In the morning, his staff served us breakfast and were very welcoming. Highly recommend staying.
Mark and his wife made us feel so welcomed. The cottage is super cozy and even comes with an awesome cat that sits on that thing you are trying to read. Just like home.
Mark was great about following up with us on our arrival, tips for stuff to do near by and even offered to treat us to a beer or two.
The breakfast at our door step was wonderful. So thoughtful and the bread was made by him. See for yourself: (website hidden)_
10 out of 10 we will stay there again. They were great hosts.

Twelve years ago my wife and I fell in love with an abandoned restaurant with four tired cottages on three acres of wild blackberries and old growth redwoods on Austin Creek. It has been an exhausting/exhilarating labor of love that has enriched our lives in more ways than we ever imagined. We hope that you will enjoy it as much as we have!
