About this listing

GraceGardens is a haven for rest and rejuvenation and graced with majestic trees, native, wildlife friendly gardens, stunning views of the San Marcos River, a peaceful Courtyard, and a variety of calming meditation spaces. GraceGardens has several guest rentals on the one acre property: Rustic Oak Cabin, Rustic Studio, Cypress Room (in Main House), The Bunk Room (in Main House).
Enjoy a relaxing stay in our Bunk Room which is located in our main house where we reside. It is simple room with a bunk bed that sleeps two. The lower bed is a regular twin size mattress/box springs. The upper bed is a plush futon. Available next to the room is a full bathroom. If we have guests in the Studio (another space on our property) the bathroom is shared.
Check-in: Anytime after 3pm and before 9pm if at all possible.
Other amenities include a tree-shaded swimming pool, hot tub, BBQ grill, outside eating area, fire pit, (bring your own wood), free wifi (no password) and touring bicycles. We are located about half way between Austin and San Antonio. Several tubing outfitters are minutes away.
We do not have direct river access because we are 40 feet straight up. There is a lovely low water crossing about 1-1/2 miles from us on a quiet country road. At this crossing is a place where you can sit in the San Marcos River's cool, rushing water. Also Martindale has a small city park with a trail that leads down to the river.
Our gardens are wildlife friendly. They are a mixture of planted perennials and native plants that go dormant in the winter. In early spring you will start to see the magic of new growth. In the summer and through early fall the gardens are lush with an almost tropical feel. Also, what some folks consider weeds, we consider food for honey bees and butterflies. Some areas of the property and the river bank are allowed to grow wild to curb erosion and to provide shelter for birds and wildlife.
If you enjoy bird watching, check out the San Marcos Loop, the San Marcos River Birding Trail or one of these popular, local bird watching sites. Painted Bunting, Summer Tanager, and Great Blue Heron are just a few of the many spectacular species of birds you may behold. Don't forget to bring your binoculars!
Before check-in, if possible, let us know if you want to use the hot tub. It requires manual turning on and off, therefore one of us needs to be here. The fee for each use is $20.00 and is due when you reserve it.
Tree-shaded swimming pool, hot tub (hot tub fee $20/per use, payable when you reserve it). Gas/Charcoal BBQ grill (must provide own charcoal), fire pit(we have kindling, but bring your own wood), outside eating area, free wifi (no password) and touring bicycles. Several tubing outfitters are minutes away.
We provide linens, bath towels, pillows. Bring your favorite pillow and beach towels.
Main house kitchen may be available (1) for limited use only, (2) upon special request prior to booking, (3) with $10.00 per adult, per use fee.
Interaction with guests
We leave our guests alone but are always available to meet any needs or answer any questions.
There are several units on the property, so if other spaces are booked there may be other guest interaction.
We are the first house on a dead end street that runs along the river. We have about 10 neighbor homes along our little country road. It is a private road that is used for home owners and their guests. Our property has the river on one side and hay fields on two other sides. We have lots of wildlife around us. Late at night, you may see or hear owls, raccoons, squirrels and armadillos. If you are lucky enough to see them just make a noise so they will hear and see you. They will be afraid of you and run away.
Though we are only 10 minutes (by car) to south San Marcos, you cannot ride bikes to town because the county road you have to use has no shoulders. You can ride to our great city of Martindale using lovely country roads that have less car traffic.
Other things to note
Come prepared to experience country life and all it has to offer. We strive to keep things simple here. Our grounds are maintained in a rustic, natural manner, and we share this magical space with all the creatures who call this home too.
The Bunk Room is in the Main House and shares a bathroom in the Main House with the Rustic Studio.
Dogs are welcome in the Bunk Room if they are under 20 lbs. and as long as they are socialized and friendly with other people, animals and children. Please bring bags for cleaning up and disposing of your dog's waste. If you plan to leave your dog while you leave to do other activities, must bring your own crate and the dog must be crate trained. Please note that if the dog is upset (crying, howling) when you leave, we will call you and ask you to return.
Smoking is only allowed outside of the Courtyard and pool area, only when children are not present, and butts must be disposed of properly.
Children are always welcome! They will love the sights and sounds that come with staying on the river: looking for fish, chasing butterflies, digging in the sandbox, playing in the tree-shaded swimming pool and enjoying the “Kids Only” tree-house that comes equipped with a slide and a climbing wall. We also have an infant swing and tree swing for older kids and kids-at-heart. During summer months we continually watch for wasps and try to remove any nests that they may build. Parents please take a look before you allow kids to play on playscape.
Complimentary coffee is provided in the morning. Refrigerated storage is available for any additional food and/or drinks you bring. A BBQ pit is available for grilling.
You will have access to GraceGardens’ tree-shaded swimming pool, hot tub, fire pit, outside dining space, touring bicyles. No life guard on duty, swim at your own risk. There is a $20.00 fee for hot tub use and must reserve time(s) when you check-in.
Don’t forget to bring beach towels for swimming and tubing, sunscreen, any desired food and/or drink items, inner-tubes and/or rafts, swimsuits and swim-shoes.
GraceGardens is a fun, yet peaceful place. We enjoy music and laughter, but we ask that you keep the noise level down after 10pm.
