When you visit Luxor, you have to know that all the tombs and several temples are on the West Bank, but most hotels are in the city on the East Bank.... We are on the West Bank where it is much quieter and more relaxed as well as more convenient to visit the Valley of the Kings, The Valley of the Queens, Colossi of Memnon, Hatshepsut Temple, Habu Temple, Papyrus and Alabaster Factories.
The accommodation is situated on a quiet back street of the main road where you can find public transport if you don't want to rent a car.
Each apartment has a spacious salon, a well-equipped kitchen, 2 double bedrooms with balconies, and a bathroom. There is also access to the roof terrace.
Next door to the house are several shops to satisfy all your needs - food, internet, hairdresser, and pharmacy.
The place is only 5 minutes walk to the ferry which brings you to Luxor Temple and the city. Luxor Temple is just across from the ferry and the city lies nestled behind the Temple with its big market where you can get anything you need!
Interaction with Guests
I want the guests to have the best experience. I will offer them certain things and leave it to their decision what to do.
The apartment is in a quiet neighbourhood. It's on a side street just off the main road where you find shops, restaurants and street cafés.
No smoking in the house please and leave the place as clean as you find it - thank you!
Our host was friendly, caring and at all times had our interests at heart.
His apartment is spacious , clean and he even had fresh flowers on the table for us. He helped us with bookings and advice and even took us home to his lovely family for a meal.
A great experience
We won't forget our days in Luxor. Ismael picked us up from the airport, took us to the well equipped apartment, very clean, great location. He already hired us bikes everything was well taken care off. Ismael is a very warm, well organized man representing Egyptian hospitality in the best possible way. He is a very giving man, unprejudiced, smart and sensitive. I wish Dutch people had more of these warm treats, he even waved goodbye at the bus station and ran after it to give us chocolates. If you go to Luxor hire his place!
We (Family of 3) had a very wonderful holiday on the West bank hosted by Ismael. The apartment was amazingly clean, spacious and very comfortable. The rooms are large and light, the apartment is cool and tastefully decorated and it was a wonderful reprieve from the midday heat. Ismael was very kind to us and we found plenty of playmates for our 4 year old son in his family and in the neighbourhood. Ismael helped to organise our trip from Hurghada to Luxor, met us at the ferry (would've meet us at the bus if we hadn't insisted we would be fine since we are returning travellers) and took care everyday to check that we were happy and to answer questions and help. As many have already written he can help with money exchange, getting smaller denominations of Egyptian pounds, and for organising any trips you might like to do. He also helped us to do some hassle-free shopping in the markets - which can otherwise be rather tiresome (due to the low number of tourists the local merchants can be pretty numerous and very insistent - understandable but sometimes stressful for lone travellers). Inshallah more people will travel to Egypt. Indeed we felt very safe there, even travelling at night on public transport. Ismael organised a donkey ride for us - his friend Saber was wonderful with our son - and we also opted for the hot air balloon ride at sunrise which was spectacular.
There is a stable next door with camels and horses and the west bank has a lovely village feeling. We met lots of locals, enjoyed the coffee shops and falafel and were also fortunate enough to be hosted by Ismael and his family as well as other families we met. Ismael's wife and daughters are lovely, as are the extended family, and Ismael's wife is a wonderful cook.
The street is rather lively (nice because we always found someone to chat with or play soccer with) - but being a light sleeper I didn't find it so quiet at night.
We matched our rhythm to the weather and started our days early (the temples and tombs open at 6) and we can really recommend visiting them and/or the neighbourhood then - the light is great for photographing, its peaceful (the packed tourist buses start arriving from around 9am) and the temperatures pleasant. Following a midday siesta one can venture out again and from 4pm we enjoyed again the locals, the nile and the culture.
Ismael is a very kind and caring host, his apartment is very lovely and very very reasonably priced, and the west bank is a great place to stay.
Thank you Ismael for hosting us and thank you Marion for so kindly answering all the questions I bombarded you with during the planning of our holiday, :-). You both made our holiday very happy and memorable.
Was made welcome but then the problem of the orfi marriage came up which was already accepted in advance by Marion or we would not have booked. Quiet neighbourhood next to stables. Quite a way from the ferry but tuk-tuks available.
Thank you for your feed back. It is always our aim to improve!
I would appreciate you explain your accusations to a factual level! As we host many couples without even asking about their certificates - because that it is their privacy and we don't want to know, neither interfere - I would like to correct your statement: Ismael saw that you don't have the legal verification stamp on your orfi certificate and just pointed out that you might have problems in other locations due to that..... Ismael certainly didn't have any issues with the certificate!
Wishing you well and save travels!
Ismael made all the difference for us during our visit to Luxor. He really went out of his way to accommodate all of our needs! The flat was more than described! We loved every minute of being there and hated to leave! We had lunch with his wonderful family, his wife cooked a super lunch! One thing that I wish that we had known.. His village is very poor and he helps with providing used clothes..we would have packed an extra suitcase with second hand clothes for him .. (Next time!)
It has been a very good experience, staying in Ismael’s flat. It is very spacious indeed, with a large kitchen, living room, clean bathroom with hot shower, two bedrooms with balcony overlooking the street. A lot of care in the details. Downstairs a minimarket where you could buy for example breakfast essentials, bakery close by, and a small internet café next door. (I paid a little money so I could use their wifi connection inside the flat.) I stayed in the apartment on the second floor, one floor up there’s a roof terrace; a serene private space. Important for me was that I felt very safe in the flat and also in the neighbourhood, especially since I travelled alone. It is only a few minutes walk to the ferry. It is easy to bike to all the historical sites, and also nice to see the villages around!
Ismael is very kind, always there to help and give advice. He helped me with practical things like transportation from & to the airport (even in the middle of the night!), changing money, he showed me the neighbourhood, arranged the internet connection and bike, and also invited me to his home to meet his family for lunch. He knows the neighbourhood and the people around very well and is very trustworthy.
I think the West bank is a good choice if you prefer to be closer to actual Egyptian life and have a more peaceful experience (less tourists, less hassle…), at the same time you are closer to all the things you might want to see.
So I recommend this place highly!
