  • The yurt is lovely, and Laurie & Craig have thought of everything you might need. It is a large space, in tranquil surroundings, with a well equipped kitchen, lots of things to do (dvd's, hike book, magazines, pool table, telescope...) and a lovely shower inside. Since our motorbike was unable to make the journey up the road, Craig let us use his 4x4 which was very useful. This would be ideal for a group of friends or a family who wanted a nice glamping experience.

  • Mark and I were looking for a private and unusual place to settle between visits to Yosemite. The Sugar Pine Yurt offered us a fun home away from home where we could feel like we were 'roughing it' in comfort. We loved cooking on the propane stove, driving the Tracker up and down the hill, and we saw the Milky Way for the first time in years. Craig and Laurie were great hosts and made sure we had everything we needed to feel cozy. We even got in a game of bumper pool while there.

Only criticisms would be that it was still a bit of a drive to and from Yosemite, but it was our choice not to stay somewhere closer. The red dust around the campsite got all over our pants, socks, and shoes but removing them when going into the yurt was not a big deal for us. My only worry would be whether it might get muddy when it rains.

Overall a very fun and unique experience and many thanks to Craig and Laurie for their hospitality.

    Response from Laurie And Craig:

Great point, Pat, about the possibility of mud! That is why the yurt is only open from May 1st through October 31st! We do not get rain during late Spring, all Summer and the beginning of Fall. It is very difficult to navigate the road when it is wet or covered with snow. Next year we are planning to remedy the red dust issue by putting down wood chips in the space in front of the yurt and limiting the parking to behind the yurt. Thanks!

  • We had the most wonderful time celebrating our anniversary at Sugar Pine Yurt. Laurie and Craig were wonderfully kind, helpful and hospitable: they happily provided us with maps and suggestions when we lost track of time and needed to find a place to eat, and sweetly offered to let us use the shower in their home when the yurt's water pump went out. The yurt was lovingly furnished and was well stocked with the comforts of home.
We only stayed for two nights but we would have loved a longer stay - we're already planning a trip back!

  • The Yurt was spacious and very comfortable. Laurie & Craig had obviously put a lot of thought in to everything that their guests may need. My Mum wasn't looking forward to the portaloo but was pleasantly surprised by how clean and fresh it was. Overall it was a great Yurt experience - thank you!

  • Our stay at the yurt was great. The place is beautiful, quiet, we had to have everything we needed. It takes one hour's drive up to Yosemite Valley. Laurie Craig and are very friendly. Our first airbnb experience was successful!

  • We enjoyed staying at Laurie and Craig's yurt. It was quite peaceful and the mountaintop view was great. Unfortunately, we spent so much time at Yosemite and hiking that we did not spend much time as we would have liked at the yurt. It had all the comforts of home. The only negative thing was the outside dust (but that was not Laurie and Craig's fault). We had not camped in years so this was a truly unique experience.

  • We stayed at the Yurt for 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It is a fully equipped and comfortable "off grid" home It is in a great location for exploring Yosemite. It was useful to have access to their 4wd vehicle to drive the short distance to the remote site. The night sky was AMAZING! We were there during a hot and very dry time which created a very dusty road around the site. The Yurt heated up by mid morning which was not bothersome to us because we were headed out to Yosemite, and it had cooled off comfortably by our return in the evening. Thank you Laurie and Craig for sharing your special place!

  • Me and my girlfriend stayed for two nights in the Yurt and we can assure that this is a very confortable, lovely and fantastic place. The yurt is very big and fully accessorized for every needs (from cooking to spending free time). The shower inside is a very useful add-on. It is also not far from Yosemite Valley (about 40 minutes) and it is close to other Yosemite park points.

  • We loved our stay in the yurt. It's such a peaceful spot, but still close enough to Yosemite to reach the park inside an hour.
There's also lots to see closer to home, including beautiful walks and swimming in the river in the surrounding area, and an amazing range of vintage and antique stores in nearby Sonora.
    Highly recommend.

  • Laurie and Craig have furnished the yurt to ensure maximum comfort and enjoyment of the peaceful setting. The detailed notes they provided and explanation of how everything worked meant that we didn't have any questions for the duration of our trip. There was a 4x4 for us to use to reach the yurt from Laurie and Craig's home. There were several magazines and books available with information about the local area and Yosemite and the 'Hike Book' was great. We BBQ'd and watched the sun set and drank coffee on the porch watching the sun rise. Such a perfectly tranquil (email hidden)d the view of the stars at night has to be seen to be believed! Go glamping at Laurie and Craig's yurt and you won't regret it!

We are Midwesterners who headed west and fell in love with the Sierra Nevadas. We are involved in a local community support group, Community Connections, the Friends of the Library, Wildwood Chapel, AARP/Vita Tax Aide program and the John Muir Geotourism Center. Laurie is the CFO of an industrial electrical company and Craig is the Yurt Master/Keeper. We love sharing with others our beautiful corner of the foothills, and especially our yurt and cottage.
