  • I stayed with Heni and Stuart for several days while in Rotorua for work. They were wonderful hosts, friendly and warm and super helpful with advice. Stu brought me home from the bus station the day I arrived - though I was told there is public bus service to the neighborhood where they live. However, during my time there, I just hitched a ride into town with Stu or Heni and gave them gas money and they were happy to have me along.

The home is located in a quiet neighborhood very close to the lake and looks out onto a beautiful park. One evening I had a great walk up the hill and got a stunning view of the area. My room had a twin bed that was very comfortable. The bathroom is shared with everyone in the household but there was no time when it was unavailable when I needed it. Heni has thoughtfully provided information about tourist attractions in the area. She is also very hooked into the community. Wifi works like a champion. A generous breakfast was provided.

Overall I had a great stay at Kapa O Pango 2.

  • I enjoyed the opportunity to stay with a modern Maori family who shared their history, culture and perspective. Connor either picked me up or helped me with the bus connection to and from the tourist area. The bed & room was comfortable. I appreciated the breakfast

  • Small but cosy room for one. I felt comfortable and part of the family! Great for me as I grew up in a close but big family so it felt like I was at home. Heni even supplied breakfast each day and they all love a chat (which luckily, so do I!). Helpful with activities and suggestions for thins to see and do around town too. They are saving their airBnB money to watch their son play hockey overseas so pleased I could contribute!

  • I had such a cosy stay with Herewini's family. Definitely recommend to those who are in Rotorua. Their place is very centrally located and in a good and quiet neighborhood.

  • This is a comfortable single room with a lovely outlook onto a reserve and stream - very suitable for a solo traveller. The Herewini family were relaxed but also welcoming. Thanks Heni for the help with organising outings, nice cups of tea and chats, and also to Stu for the tip about using my (website hidden) app for my ongoing trip directions - worked a treat. Lovely to meet Connor, his brother as well as two gorgeous grandchildren. Highly recommended home (website hidden) regards Debra

  • I had a really nice stay at the Herewini's place.
It's easy to find when you arrive in Rotorua and the family is very welcoming.
We had a nice chat over breakfast and Heni had some good advice on what to do in Rotorua.
My only regret is to not have stayed more than 1 night !!
Maybe I'll be back some day :)

Thanks again for your hospitality !

  • I really don't have much to add to the huge number of wonderful comments.

It (email hidden) to stay in the area. A little bit of a distance from town and a tad easier with a car but there is a bus station not too far away to take you to and from town.

Stu and Heni were really cool. They have a lot of local knowledge, They were also the most experienced of any of the Aritbnb hosts I have stayed with. They were able to find the perfect mix between being friendly and letting me have some time alone. Anytime I had a question they had an answer.

As a bonus Stu made me some fresh caught trout one night which was really good.

  • The Herewini family made me feel very welcome, it was really like staying with family! My room was very comfortable and clean. Heni, Connor's mom (the boys were all away at school), had lots of suggestions for things to do in Rotorua, and also shared a lot of her own stories about the area. Breakfast in the morning was a nice touch. Wonderful family, I would highly recommend staying with the Herewini's to anyone interested in meeting a local family and learning more about the Maori culture!
