About This Listing
It really doesn't get any better than this! Come share this Garden of Eden in the North Portland Overlook neighborhood, walking distance to the up and coming Mississippi Arts District.
Located 3 blocks from a Max (Portland's street car) stop, a 15 minute ride into downtown [and the train station!] and 45 minute ride to the airport. Alternatively, on a major bike route with about a 15-20 minute ride into downtown (bike rentals available here!!). As well, by car, the house is a 10 minute drive to downtown and a 15 minute drive to the airport.
This home is an urban permaculture homestead; all of the landscaping is edible and organic with 9 beautiful chickens and one honey bee colony (they hang out in the back corner of the garden and without mention you wouldn't even know they were there!) As well, the neighborhood is surrounded in beautiful gardens. The interior of the home is being remodeled into an eco modern paradise utilizing all sustainable and non-toxic materials. Don't worry, I'm not currently working on any projects, there are just a few unfinished ones around the house! I am very environmentally conscious; recycle everything and compost, the electricity is sourced 100% from wind power through the service provider, as well, the gas heating comes from the Methane produced on dairy farms! Additionally as part of our house remodel I am updating the house to be as energy efficient as possible.
There are two rooms available to rent, so if this one isn't available check on the other! Both bedrooms have very comfortable queen sized beds and can hold a single cot (that we can provide) for a third person. The bedrooms are private, but we share a bathroom. : ) There is ample shared space throughout the house and you will have access to wireless internet.
Your stay includes a self serve organic breakfast of oatmeal, granola, yogurt, fruit, coffee and tea. Access to on-site laundry and gourmet farm fresh breakfast can be provided upon request for a nominal fee. I am a total foodie and excellent cook and buy only local, organic produce and pasture-fed meats. Depending on the season there may be fresh fruit and veggies from the garden available, as well as fresh eggs from the chickens! The fully stocked kitchen is available for you to prepare meals in if you so choose and New Seasons Market, Portland's local grocery store, is only two Max stops away or a 15 minute walk!
Enjoy a walk to the Mississippi Neighborhood where you'll find quaint coffee shops, fabulous boutiques, yoga studios, spa's, music venues and pubs. There are a number of amazing local restaurants nearby with your choice of Thai, Mexican, Italian, pizza and southern food to name a few, as well as a variety of gourmet food carts. And lets not forget another thing Portland is known for.... beer! Widmer Brewing is down the road as well as McMenamins (White Eagle) and lesser known Amnesia Brewing, Lucky Lab, Hopworks Urban Brewery and New Old Lompoc. You might also enjoy relaxing in the backyard garden here!
The house is shared with my loving miniature schnauzer Beau. He loves guests and likes to greet them when they arrive! I am pleased to meet new people - we can sit and chat, or just smile and say hi as you come and go. As well, I am happy to give advice on great ways to explore the area.
This house is super laid back, I really don't have any rules! I just ask that you be respectful of others using the space as far as volume of noise is concerned. You can come and go as you please (no worries on late night arrivals as long as you are quiet if arriving in late!)
Our stay at the Attunement Permie Homestay was fantastic. It was easy to get around and within walking distance of a station. The room was very comfortable and our hosts were very warm and friendly. Definitely recommend this place.
The hosts are very welcoming and fun to chat with. The three dogs are yappie but quite friendly. I think this is a good location for people who are just passing through. The location is great for public transportation. Its close to the train where you can be downtown in 20 minutes and it also takes you right to the airport. Walking distance to the Mississippi Ave. area for shopping and a few restaurants. I would not recommend this for people who do not care if there is no TV or radio. If you have a tablet for entertainment that would be useful. I didn't have a car and the magazines are very outdated so the evenings were very quiet. Joelle and Shanita are very busy and not around very much. It was o.k. but I won't go back.
It was my first Airbnb experience and I loved staying at Joelle's house
My girlfriend and I stayed in Joelle's lovely home. It was welcoming and offered all the necessities for living and cooking; from essential oils and spices to shampoo and towels. Two people lived down stairs and were very helpful if needed. We never heard them except first thing in the morning when coming out for coffee, they maintained a clean home. The bedroom was cozy, 98% sound proof and had a great closet space for our belongings; the bed was quite comfortable.
The Neighborhood was within walking distance to transit which took us right downtown Portland within 15 minutes. It was also within walking distance to the Mississippi district which housed beautiful spots to eat and drink. If driving, it was about a 7-10 minute drive to the Alberta district which also had terrific food and drink (try Pine State Biscuits for a breakfast!).
Overall it was a great place to stay, although a second guest took the other room our schedules did not clash and it was no problem sharing the household. We would recommend staying here for a well rounded Portland experience.
