A romantic, private and tranquil immersion in nature. Stay in a restored antique Dutch Joglo, set amidst vast green rice fields just 20 mins walk along a spa- and cafe- filled street to Ubud's main street.
The property includes a pool area with traditional Balinese bales, organic farm and full wi-fi. A delicious breakfast is included.

The space

The Original Dutch Joglo is the first of three antique/recycled Joglo villas, assembled on a large rice field property commanding views over the rice fields from all sides, and to the mountains of the north.

The Original Dutch Joglo was built in Java last century using recycled wood, and is the only one of its kind. The restoration was true to the original, retaining the features of high cathedral/loft style ceilings, attic style doors and detailed fretwork.

Enter the Dutch Joglo through the front balcony, (or loiter there on the beautiful teak carved daybed overlooking the rice fields..!)

The main lounge area has 2 daybeds that can convert for sleeping, leading to the bathroom and separate dressing room at the back. The bathroom was added to the original Joglo to include an open air shower overlooking the rice fields and Mount Batur, with terrazzo bath.

Upstairs is the Master bedroom with King Sized beds. You will be enchanted by the pitched, cathedral like ceiling leading onto the private balcony surrounded by green and overlooking the pool.

This Joglo is perfect for couples, honeymoons or small families.

Guest access

The property is situated on the famous tourist rice field walk, a beautiful pathway along a spa- and cafe-lined rice field walk into the main street of Ubud.

You will enjoy the large pool area with traditional bales, an open air kitchen/dining pavilion, high speed wi fi and beautiful gardens with landscaped water features. The organic vegetable garden yields an array of herbs and vegetables to add to your meals. The ducks lay fresh eggs for your breakfast each morning.

The property also hosts an assortment of animals, including rabbits and ducks, in their own custom-designed Animal Joglos!

Interaction with guests

You will have a full time day housekeeper to help you with local needs. Your complimentary breakfast is prepared and served in the dining pavilion each morning.
We are always available by email and phone while you are there.
We are also happy to help you with activities in and around Ubud, and will arrange for you to participate in local ceremonies and cultural events if you would like to join in
We can organise in house services including a lunch/dinner chef, massage, cooking classes, private yoga classes, driver and adventure activities (additional cost)

Other things to note

While the Joglo is easy to get to by walking or scooter, at night the walk into the rice field can get dark in places. You'll need a torch. It's the price we pay for enjoying the open space and tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of the main centre.
Also, mosquito repellant and sunscreen will always come in handy on your Bali holiday!

Our stay at the Joglo was amazing! Would deinetely come back any time. The staff was amazing and ready to help us if we needed (EMAIL HIDDEN)munication with Kristine was very smooth, she even helped us fixing a driver from the airport to the Joglo. Also, breakfast was great every morning (the coffee was my favorite). Great location since it is only a 15 minute walk to the center. 100% recommended!

The rice Joglo was a beautiful accommodation set in the rice fields in Ubud. The staff were incredibly helpful, accommodating, and friendly. And the accommodation was appointed perfectly. We experienced many other tourists walking by the property and coming in for a wander because it is was beautiful. We only had one other couple staying there when we were guests and it felt as though we had the entire property our selves. The place looks like a Dr. Suess book, with funky flags and a pop out pool. But the 1850s Dutch architecture contrasting the vast rice fields felt like a movie set. It took about 25 min walking to town. But that was the only downfall, and the manager Sonu was very accommodating offering rides in to town.

The rice joglo was one of the best places I have ever stayed. The Gardner, Made, is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. From being able to try jackfruit and coconut right off the tree, to making a salad from fresh organic vegetables that Made picked from the garden at that very moment, the joglo is such a wonderful place to connect to the natural world around you. It is close enough to Ubud to get to by scooter in a short time, yet far enough to make you feel in the middle of no where. I would only say to pack lightly, as I had to take a 10 minute scooter ride to the joglo on a narrow path with a giant suitcase on my lap, a camera backpack and laptop bag around my shoulders. Not unsafe, as we drove quite slowly, just uncomfortable at times. The place has no AC, but it isn't too hot since there is always a nice breeze, and actually can get fairly chilly at night and in the morning. The room we stayed in had 2 stories of which we were in not very often, but the bathroom was even more stunning in person. We arrived to fresh flowers throughout the rooms and gorgeous views. Highly recommended and I definitely will stay here again when I return to Bali.

We LOVED our 5-night stay at the rice joglo. We were overwhelmed by the beauty of the property, the friendliness of the staff and the great company of the people that we shared the space with. The location is magical - located out of the bustle of town, down a serene path on which there are a few great restaurants and spas. The Joglo is a piece of artwork itself, with beautiful interior and exterior. The bathroom is luxurious and the views from the bedroom and decks spectacular. Passers-by always took note of the property and many were jealous that we were staying there! Mad-e created elixirs from the herbs and plants in their organic garden and was always happy to help. We are thankful that we got to meet Sonu and have great chats, and Kristine was very accommodating and always quick to respond on email. We have no doubt if we are back in Ubud we will be staying at the Rice Joglo.

I couldn't imagine a better place to stay when visiting Ubud. The master suite in the Rice Joglo exceeded my expectations. Location was perfect if you're looking to avoid the hustle and bustle of town and do not mind walking 15 minutes or renting a motor bike to get faster access to the Joglo. But you're left in a beautiful setting in the rice paddies with yoga, spas, and places to eat just a few minutes away on the same trail. It's not entirely private, as many tourists walk the trail that holds the Joglo and often stop in thinking it's public or taking photos. But generally speaking the place is private and quiet at night. And the staff is very helpful, whether it comes to providing food from the garden, arranging activities, or doing laundry. I hope to make it back some day for another relaxing visit.

I've lived in Sydney for a long time, though I was born in Norway. A few years ago our family moved to Ubud for our children to attend the Green School – a pioneering school with a mission to educate the green leaders of the future. We fell in love with Ubud and its locals, and …
