The space

Privacy abounds in this charming country house surrounded by woods. The Master bedroom has a King size bed. The 2nd bedroom a queen. The 3rd bedroom is smaller with a twin trundle bed (sleeps two) and a built-in desk. The living room has a working wood stove and a flat screen tv. There is Wifi and AC throughout.
Please note in old reviews you may see reviews mentioning my two great cats but they do not live in the house and haven't for about six-months :-)Great kitchen, washer dryer, BBQ grill and fire pit in the yard. The property is situated on 2 beautiful country acres, 4 minutes from the village center and the Fairgrounds. And we are only 5 miles from Omega - we often have Omega guests stay with us! We are on a very lightly traveled road which is great for walks and biking (we have bikes you can borrow).

We'd be happy to share local information with you and help in any other way we can to make your stay fantastic. We are close to Bard College, the Village of Rhinebeck, the Omega Institute, the Dutchess County Fairgrounds, the Culinary Institute, FDR, Hyde Park and the Taconic State Parkway. We have bikes you can borrow. Dogs on approval.

I am a friendly host with two children. This house is our winter residence and we enjoy sharing it with guests when we are not here. We do sometimes stay in our Vintage 1972 Airstream which is also located on the 2 acre property, so we may or may not be around during your stay. We are happy to give you as much privacy as you like - or happy to hang out with you and share local information, etc. There are drawers cleared out in each bedroom and plenty of room in the closets - you will also see some of our belongings in the house, but there is plenty of room for yours too!

The house is located exactly 4 minutes from the village of Rhinebeck, 7 minutes to the Hudson River and Amtrack station. Conveniently located to Red Hook, Clinton, Stanfordville, Salt Point, skiing and much more! Rhinebeck is the home of the oldest inn in America, as well as of many shopping and dining attractions, many of which were visited by the guests of Chelsea Clinton's wedding. Rhinebeck has some of the finest dining in Hudson Valley!

Enjoy the area year-round, with fall foliage, fairs and festivals, the CIA ('Culinary Institute of America'), skiing at Belleayre, Catamount, Windham or Hunter Mountains, Bard College and its summer music festival, the Omega Institute, Aerodrome air shows, wineries, spas, golf, boating, the FDR Library and Museum, Vanderbilt estate, Eleanor Roosevelt's Val-Kill cottage, and other historic sites.

Interaction with guests

We are nearby if you need us. We sometimes stay on the property in our Vintage Airstream when we have guests or we are only 1 hour away in the Catskill Mountains. We are happy to give you as much privacy as you like or happy to share a chat and a glass of iced tea!

The neighborhood

Here are some of our local favorites:
For hiking/walking with the kids, we have a great forest called Ferncliff which has a fire tower you can climb at the end: (URL HIDDEN)
Also there is a lovely park with several miles of walks along the Hudson River called Poet's Walk: (URL HIDDEN)
And there is Burger Hill which has amazing views of the Catskills: (URL HIDDEN)
Here's a great article from the NYTimes on walks/hikes in Rhinebeck:
Our favorite restaurants in town are: Smoky Rock BBQ, Terrapin Bistro (there is also a fancier side to the restaurant but locals love the Bistro), Market St, The Local, Le Petit Bistro, Posto (wood fired pizza), The Rhinecliff Hotel (on the Hudson River), China Rose (on the Hudson River), Aroi Thai and Cinnamon (Indian). And outside of town we love Another Fork In the Road in Milan. And our local diner: Pete's.
We have two wonderful parks in town the kids will enjoy. One is behind our the Starr Public Library and is also where the pool is located (which is great and has a kiddie pool). (URL HIDDEN) The other is on S Parsonage Street and has a stream running next to it. It is called the Lion's Mini Park or the Duck Park. Anyone can point you there.
Two good groceries in town Stop & Shop (right outside of town)and Sunflower Naturals (right in town). And please visit our dear friends' wine shop across from the Beekman Arms: Old Mill Wine and Spirits.

Getting around

The village of Rhinbeck offers great streets for walking; several reliable cab companies; Amtrak to Poughkeepsie, Hudson, Albany, New York City and more; and public bus transport to Red Hook, Hyde Park and Poughkeepsie.
Our house is located 2 miles outside the Village. Our road is walkable and bikeable. There is little lighting at night (we are in the country), so nighttime cycling is not suggested.

Other things to note

The village of Rhinebeck has a great town pool open to the public!
We often stay on the property in our Vintage Airstream when we have guests. We are happy to give you as much privacy as you like or happy to share a chat and a glass of iced tea!
