Interaction with Guests
I am very helpful when asked to be and also very friendly, but know when to step back and give space. Everyone is different, and some people want to just relax in their room, but some want to come out and have a glass of wine or tea and chat and I totally understand that. My children are curious about their world so they may ask about what country our guest is from, etc., but other than that and introducing themselves they are good at picking up social cues and engage in conversation when it's befitting :)
*Bushwick is a mixture of a working class neighborhood and an artistic community in New York City borough of Brooklyn. *Bushwick is surrounded by Williamsburg, Ridgewood and Bed Stuy
*Dozens of art studios and galleries are scattered throughout the neighborhood and continue on growing as "gentrification" undergoes in Bushwick and artists continue to move in from Williamsburg and Manhattan
*Traffic is pretty quite here compared to Manhattan, but it is still not the suburbs and people do like their music around here
*There is a convenience store, variety store, supermarket and a laundromat all within 1/2-2 blocks from me.
*Variety of dining options within walking distance (please see my full guide to restaurants, bars and etc.)
*There is free (no meters) street parking on my block and surrounding blocks
*3 1/2 blocks from the L train, off the Halsey stop or Wilson stop, equal distance. The L is NYC's MOST CONVENIENT TRAIN (SUBWAY)
*The L line goes east to west all through Manhattan and transfers you to just about any train
*Williamsburg is 10 minutes away by train and Manhattan is 20 minutes.
*The B20 bus stops on my block (it goes into Ridgewood in a few minutes as well as Bed Stuy)
*It is an average of a 20 MINUTE car/taxi ride from LaGuardia and JFK, but a bit longer and more expensive by taxi from Newark airport to my place
*The East River Ferry in Williamsburg is a gorgeous way to get around Manhattan and Brooklyn too.

I had a wonderful time with Deanna and her children. The room is as described, comfortable bed, room to hang your clothes and private as it is in the front of the apartment and Deanna's and the children's room are in the back. I had the bathroom for myself, the kids just brush their teeth there occasionally. Deanna is a wonderful host and the kids are very sweet. They were very quiet in the morning, didn't even hear them when I slept in late.
Just 5 minutes from the L train which brings you to Manhattan in 20 minutes. Perfect location and you can't beat the price.
Bushwick is an upcoming neighborhood. As a solo single traveller I felt safe. I highly recommend Houdini, the trendy pizza-restaurant, just one block away. Free tours by foot has a wonderful graffiti and street-art tour in Bushwick too, very interesting.
We really enjoyed staying with Deanna and her family. Coming from England, we wanted to stay in an area where we could get some idea of living in a non-touristy suburb of NY for a week and this was perfect. The local subway stop has good connections to Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. We didn't try any restaurants within walking distance but a few stops towards Manhattan on the L train brings you to Morgan Ave and Jefferson St where we went to a very nice bar, Tutu's (also good for food) and an excellent Ethiopian restaurant called Bunna Cafe (Vegan, I'm not vegan btw and loved it).
Deanna is very helpful with anything you'd like to know about NY. Her children are charming and very well behaved. The bed was comfy and the shower was hot, essentials covered! The apartment was clean and generally quiet with just background street sounds. There are two rather nervous puss cats. If you're living "holiday time hours" you may not see an awful lot of Deanna and the children during the week as she will be at work but there's more time for a chat should you wish at weekends.
Deanna and her kids were both wonderful!
We had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay in their apartment. Deanna was happy to help with recommendations and anything else we might have needed.
The area felt perfectly safe, and the apartment perfectly matched the photos and descriptions. I would absolutely recommend staying here.
Great for my travels to New York. Near subway, 3 blocks. I travelled as a single female and felt safe. Room as described, I only met Deanna and the children once very briefly, the two cats are rarely seen either!
Deanna was really nice and we had a great time staying at her apartment. She also prepared some basic breakfast items for us to make our own breakfast. Also, the transportation is quite convenient around her house and there are two L line stations within 10-min walking distance.
About the Host, Deanna
I am a 35 year old dream weaver, Bjork loving culinary adventuress, pen handler, part time camera toting nanny-nette, netflix addict (drama, thrillers, indie, foreign are all genres I like, but I can take or leave Hollywood romantic comedies), liberal single mama to two precocious and awesome kids, Valentina and Lucien (ages 9 & 10) and part of our little family is a little (super shy) cat, fortunately he doesn't really shed, and hasn't been a problem to friends who are typically allergic to cats.
I like meeting new people in general and especially from different cultures, LGBT friendly, open-minded and curious about the world, I teach the same to my kids... We look forward to meeting and hosting folks from around the globe at our home :)
