Interaction with Guests

We're a friendly, somewhat bohemian couple, we cycle for transport and can advise on local public transport, bicycle route and sites of interest. We both work from home so are available most of the time if you need anything, find us in the kitchen or just knock :)

We are avid gardeners / permaculturalists and would love to show you all the edible delights we have growing around the yard and introduce you to the hens.

We speak English, French and a bit of Spanish.

The Neighborhood

Clonakilty is a vibrant town, full of life, 5 km from surf & swimming beaches, with live music every night at several of our many local pubs. Plenty of restaurants, festivals & heritage sites. 50km South-West of Cork city and the gateway of West Cork including Skibereen, beautiful Bantry & Schull.

Getting around

Clonakilty is on the BusEireann route from Cork you can look up the journey planner on (website hidden) for schedules. We are a 3-5min walk from the bus stop.

Other Things to Note

Also some things that might be a bit unusual about our house are that we have no refrigerator (as we have no need) and our hot water is heated by woodfire & soon to be thermal solar panel. always plenty in the evening & morning at present but we can always flip the immersion on if need be, all you have to do is ask.

We also ask that guests look after their own rubbish, though we do have a recycling/composting system you are welcome to use :)

  • Allison's place was great! My partner and I stayed for a month and enjoyed our time thoroughly. Her and her husband, Justin, were absolutely fantastic people who love their city (for good reason) and were great in giving tips on things to do while there. The apartment is private and with everything you need. It is a stone's throw away from the main street in the city centre. It was an ideal spot because it was away from the noise but so close to everything! It is quite spacious and the bed is very comfortable. The shower always had hot water and we were given a tiny fridge that was able to keep a few things cold, so the lack of fridge turned out to be no problem at all. The shared kitchen was very useful to cook meals and it gave us a chance to see them and chat. We got a little chilly while there, but they were so generous and let us borrow a sweater and slippers! If ever we needed anything, they were more than happy to get us sorted. They even had a welcome treat for us on our arrival. Without hesitation, I would absolutely stay here again. Thanks again for everything!

  • They are an adorable couple. The only drawback was the signal for the internet in the curtained room I was in was not reliable. If you sit in a chair that seems to be the hotspot sometimes you could get it. I tried both with phone and my playbook. It was abit of a hassle and someone who might need to put in some work might have an issue. However I'm sure if it was a more pertinent issue they would accomodate you.

Thanks for the review Michelle, we'll move the router closer to the back of the house and hopefully that will fix the problem! A

  • Allison was a lovely host and she and Justin welcomed me thoroughly! They are both wonderful conscious people and it was a real pleasure to stay in their home and share their lifestyle. I feel like I was able to experience real life in that area.

  • I could write a book about how great it was to meet and stay with Allison and Justin. I knew before I even arrived that they were going to be amazing people. I wasn't wrong in the slightest. Out of my entire trip, I keep going back to our time spent here and realizing it was definitely a highlight. My son (age 8), immediately fell in love with "the chocolatier and her musician". They were equally kind and lovely to my son.

Both of these beautiful people have tales to tell and are very interesting, active people that the world needs more of! I found that there was so much to talk about and so much to learn from them...but interestingly, it came so naturally that I don't think I realized it until I spent some time reflecting.

But you may not be interested in the people but the place (but undoubtedly you will depart with a healthy investment in both)! The place, for us, was perfect. It was quiet and private and had a lovely nook in the back for my mother to rest and find her private time. She took her tea outside at every occasion and my son was encouraged to explore and interact with all of the interesting things this property has to offer. Not once did I feel as if his natural and abundant curiosity got in the way of our hosts. They encouraged him! He was allowed to help Allison stamp dates on her chocolate wrappers and he was invited into Justin's music room to tinker around on his new piano. I am sure we were just at the right place at the right time...and that is what makes this so special...it is an organic (literally) and free flowing environment...a perfect reflection of the owners. You have comfort and you have an insight to how life could be when one focuses on simplifying the process of living as much as they focus on highlighting it. It is a wonderful combination and has had a profound impact on me and my son.

Part of the charm and magic of this place, quite honestly, resides in Allison and Justin...so if you are like me, and want to get out into the "real" world and not spend your time in a manicured hotel...take advantage of the adventure in them and open yourself up to things you might not have thought of before...hopefully you will find this the highlight of your trip too!

  • This is a long overdue review! We had an absolutely wonderful time staying with Allison and Justin. They were both very welcoming, kind and just a blast to hang out with - we were sad to leave! The space itself is great, exactly as described. Allison & Justin helped us to explore Clonakilty and some hidden gems in the surrounding area. Highly recommended!

  • Allison and Justin are cute, full of kindness and attention. It was only a pity that we had no time to invite them to eat or drink a bear altogether. ALso pity we stay only one day, we just want to know more about their talents (Justin plays Violin and Allison makes delicious chocolate : she is a "chocolatier").
The place they live and the village are also very nice and full of interests. Hope to them soon :-)

  • Allison & Justin were Fantastic hosts!!! They are so friendly & down-to-earth. Very helpful with anything you want to know about the area. The space itself was much bigger than the pictures show. It was very spacious and there was an overall warmth to the whole place. Fantastic Air BnB Location!!! Thanks!

About
We have spent many years travelling, meeting & being hosted by other lovely people, discovering so much about ourselves and this lovely world and now that we are 'settled' we hope to do the same for others! The twists & turns of life have brought us here to Clonakilty where we have found a community we love and now are setting up my first home. We both work from home, I (Allison) work as a chocolatier and Justin is a musician. On sunny days we like to be out in the garden working on various projects so we're usually around for a chat or if you need anything. We are passionate about simplifying our lives and discovering new ways of living in harmony with this lovely wee planet! We both love to cook (and eat!), cycle, have friends for dinner, go to gigs and spend quiet nights in. There always seems to be something we are working on that guests can be a part of, be in markets, music, festivals or celebrations! We are easy going hosts who hope that guests can make themselves at home and explore our lovely town.
