Local Attractions are: Dolphin Watching, Guided Walks,Golf, Cliff Walks- (website hidden) "Loop Head Eden" the whole area has been nominated as a European Habitat Eden. Bring Walking Shoes and you can start your rambles from the door of the Cottage!!

You should bring:
1.Good walking shoes/trainers/boots,
2. Rain Gear, not Himalayan just golf waterproofs or similar
3. Camera, look at (website hidden) "Querrin-West Clare Photos" the images are fantastic.

You should Do:

Dolphin Watch Carrigaholt
Scattery Island Monastic Centre Historic buildings from the start of Christianity in Ireland to Napoleonic Batteries
Do a day trip to the Burren and see the Cliffs of Moher and the Ailwee Caves. If you can get into the Doolin cave it is spectacular.
The area is perfect for boating and kayaking but for insurance reasons we cannot offer the use of our equipment, bring your own if you are interested, we would advise the use of body suits/neoprene suits for everyone; the water is not mediterranean and they also provide floatation and sun protection.

You should Eat:
Long Dock Carrigaholt
Murphy Blacks Kilkee
The Strand Kilkee
The Bar Doonbeg Golf Course (and you must walk the beach under the course, spectacular on a windy day)
Morrisseys Doonbeg
and many more

Lunch
Wander Kilkee or Kilrush
Plenty of Cafes, look at the "Diamond Rocks" in Kilkee at the perfect end to a Cliff Walk.

Music
Crottys in the Square Kilrush, excellent trad. session and good food.
Search for Traditional Music on the web there are several festivals and Summerschools like the" Willie Clancy Summer School"

Specials
Farmers market is in Kilrush on Thursdays
Kellys Butchers Kilrush for Sausages and Blackpudding real holiday breakfast food (there is a BBQ in the Shed if the Weather Suits) All the family Butchers in the area will be happy to tell you all about the meat they sell and where it came from.
Considines Bakery, Francis Street, Kilrush, real bread with no preservatives, beautiful with a fry. Nice tarts too.
The Pantry, O'Curry Street Kilkee, Unbelievable cakes and buns freshly baked . which leads me to
Yoga, just a few fields away is "Pure Camping" and the Owner Trea runs Yoga courses and sessions in a purpose built setting.

Children:
Fish for crabs from the pier, there are lines in the shed
Play on the sand or swim. The Creek is tidal so for the young you should go to the beach at low water when they can swim, splash and play in shallow water. There is also a nice sandy beach at low water.
Swimming from the pier is quite safe there is no undertow, just be aware that the tide forms a current as it flows and ebbs and do not try to fight it, look at the flow before you jump in and go with it. on the (website hidden) "Querrin sailing" there is a link to a tide (website hidden) kids spend every evening of their holidays jumping off the pier and swimming around. There is a flat screen in the cottage playroom and a DVD player, bring your laptop or some DVDs so that you can relax at the fire and they will be happy after a days activity.
There is a large Garden around the cottage so they can play quite safely, You will find some Tennis Rackets in the hall, there is a Ball Alley on the pier, like an open air squash court so you can work off excess energy (or food) there.

Details:
There is a dishwasher, Fridge, Freezer, Microwave, Washing machine, Cooker, George Foreman, Juicer, etc in the cottage.
We leave salt, pepper, sugar tinned goods, spices, condiments etc in the larder, If you finish something replace it but otherwise just work away
There are deck chairs and loungers in the shed if the weather suits as well as shrimp nets and handlines for the kids.
There is a childs riser seat for the dining table and a travel cot.
If a child wants company in the strange house, there is a single mattress and spare duvet under the bed in the downstairs en-suite room and they can bunk on the floor

Booking, Different rates and discounts apply through the year, please look at the website and you will see prices and availability - or just e-mail me but book through AIR BNB it is a great idea and deserves support.

All of the activities listed have Websites or (website hidden) Presence have a search to find your particular areas of interest. One person came a few years ago just to write a Thesis in the peace and quiet of the country!!!

Enjoy Ireland

Fresh baked bread and coffee looking out over the sea. The fire and a bottle of wine at night (with the kids happy in the playroom).

  • Fantastic place to stay - really a home away from home, warm and inviting and a really well supplied kitchen if you plan to cook for a few or for the family. If you are looking for a great place to relax then look no further - a wonderful balance of peace and tranquility at Querrin Creek and the buzz, music and restaurants of Kilkee and Kilrush. The lay out of the house is terrific with plenty of space for the family to get together or for parents and kids to do their own thing. Although we didn't need the open fire it would have been a great fire to relax in front of in the evening!! Instead we took advantage of the good weather and sat out on the patio and used the large outdoor table for evening meals. The secure garden was terrific for our kids who enjoyed playing badminton (rackets in the shed) and water games!! One highlight for our kids was jumping off the pier, a 2 minute walk away, and every high tide they wanted to be down there whether it was to jump into the water, fish for crabs or play tennis in the hand ball court (rackets also at the house). Tim was a fabulous host providing lots of great recommendations to make our stay a wonderful success...we would definitely return again one day!!
