Here, people call each other by their first names and you can hear fado (Portuguese traditional music) in every corner. Alfama is one of the most special neighborhoods in Europe and our apartment is here.
It is located in a building from the XVIII century, in the heart of Lisbon, north of Tagus River. With its alleys, narrow streets, stairways, tiny squares, churches, white houses with tile panels, Fado, grocery stores, our neighborhood is the authentic historical soul of Lisbon. Alfama is also known by the Popular Saints Festival, which occurs here, especially on the night of St. Anthony, on June 12.
Alfama is like a village within a big city where everybody knows each other. Even so, our building is not in the middle of Alfama, but at its entrance close to Santa Apolónia, where you can still feel its pulse but have some privacy.
The apartment, has 40 squre meters, is on the 3rd floor, without lift, and its renovation works were completed by February 2013. We retained the majority of the features of the original house, adding a modern and practical décor. We included double-glazing that protects the house from any potential outside noise.
The apartment has natural light and a river view. It’s a cozy and charming apartment that includes one bedroom with a double bed, a kitchen, a bathroom and a living room with a single bed. The kitchen has all the usual appliances and utensils. Towels and bed linen are included.
Located next to the Fado museum, the Pantheon and the flea market (feira da ladra, in Portuguese), this house is within walking distance from downtown. You are a stroll away from Praça do Comércio, Castle of São Jorge, as well as the beautiful viewpoints of Portas do Sol, Graça and Senhora do Monte and the legendary tram nº 28.
Served by several buses and 5 minutes away from the subway/train station of Stª Apolónia, our house has a convenient location.

Goncalo's appartement is perfectly located in Alfama. From inside you have a nice view of the river and of the square below. The appartement is small, but everything you need is there. Goncalo is a very nice host. He gives you tips where to go and brings groceries and Portugees pastries. We would certainly recommend this place to others.
Our stay in Goncalo's apartment was great. Lisbon is a beautiful and magic city and Alfama is the perfect place to stay if you want to feel the proper traditional Portuguese lifestyle. The apartment is 5 mins walking from the metro station that will bring you to the airport and 10 mins walking from the Praca do Comercio or the castle. And you can find many typical Portuguese restaurants and mini markets in the streets nearby.
The apartment has everything you may need and is also well prepared for cold days.
Goncalo was very friendly, helpful and approachable and also flexible with us as we he let us check out a bit later.
I'll definitely recommend your place to my friends!
Goncalo was a great host and the apartment has a good location. Nearby is a good place for food, called "mestico" whitch i have sworn to recommend. Thx for the ginja
Our stay at Gonçalo's place was wonderful! The apartment was clean, beautifully furnished, very comfortable, and bright. The view onto the river is far better than the pictures make it out to be. And there is also a lovely authentic view of the streets out of the French doors. The bed was comfortable and it was such a joy to wake up in a bright and sunny apartment (even on days when it rained!).
We arrived very late in the evening and we were so thankful that he was accommodating and also provided food (fruit, yoghurt, bread) and even brought homemade cherry wine and delicious fresh Portuguese pastries and then took the time to share helpful details and tips about Lisbon with us!
If I go back to Lisbon, I will definitely stay at Gonçalo's place again if it is available :)
Goncalo was great! He was very nice and probably one of the most organized Airbnb's I've been too! He has an amazing intro packet that was extremely helpful!
This flat is perfect. It was lovely and clean. The host is very perfect! He is really kind and nice. I was happy in this flat.
We stayed together with my wife in Goncalo's flat during Christmas time in 2013. We enjoyed our stay a lot.
Despite our delayed arrival, Goncalo warmly welcomed us with Portuguese drinks and desserts and gave us some useful recommendations about the city. He also helped us with arranging our transfer to the airport. The overall impression of the host was very positive.
The apartment itself is warm, neat, clean and well equipped with furniture, home appliances and kitchen utensils. Everything was as described. The flat is centrally located in a walking distance from major attractions like St. Jorge castle and Commerce square. The neighborhood is quiet at night, unlike some other areas in the city center.
We would highly recommend the host and apartment for your stay in Lisbon.
We stayed 3 nights at Goncalo's place, it is well situated in Lisbon in the Alfama district. Goncalo was a great host, he brought us some delicious portoguese sweets. The apartment is very well decorated and has all the things you'd need during your stay and there's a great view to the river too :) We liked it a lot and also it was really easy to get into the center from there. I can recommend it!
