About this listing
What to Expect
This is a double bed, spacey enough for 2 persons.
The homy accomodation is in an enviromental retreat, in natural surroundings supporting the vital work of Animal Friends Jogja (AFJ). Animal-friendly guests, visiting artists, and AFJ volunteers who are traveling to Jogja and looking for a homy-friendly-tranquil lodge instead of a basic hotel room are welcome.
Our dawgz-stylee accommodation is located around 8 km to the north of Bantul City, in a setting of a riverbank, right before the meeting point of two running rivers at the end of the road. It's a hidden sanctuary in the southern part of Jogja, but only minutes away by motorbike or push bike to art scenes and tourism areas. You'll be neighbored with a living-legend painter; Djoko Pekik.
You'll be spoiled with a lot more birds chirping, frogs singing, cats meowing, gamelan & dangdut sound, dogs barking (of course), and me yelling to the wildlife hunter wannabes than the annoying noise of the traffic.
For you who enjoys stage-musical-theatrical art, 5 mins-ride further to the west will take you to Padepokan Seni Bagong Kussudiardja. You crave for nature tourism? No worries, Tourism Village Kasongan is not going anywhere far.
The D.I.Y. is in your blood? Find Survive Garage, a grass root visual art community runs by our friend Bayu. Fulfill your needs for the best damn thing under your skin: it's a pleasure to take you to Skin Art Tattoo Supply & their workshop at Jogja Body Art Shop, they can arrange the ever lasting tattoo project you've been dreaming of at reasonable price.

Interaction with Guests
Me and my husband live at the main house at the upper part of the sloping land with the cats and the dogs. You'll be seeing us almost daily, often surrounded by our fans, the cats and dogs. My husband, Bandizt, usually goes out of town with his ska band for a tour. As Animal Friends Jogja Program Manager (or that we usually call my position is for the organisation), I work mostly at home and at Animal Friends Jogja's base camp-which is just a walking distance from Omah Jegok-when I'm not out to go where and about around Jogja or out of town for the sake of the animals :)
Please separate your garbage, organic waste goes to a hole in the back yard, we'll show you where.
The dogs are vegetarians, no meaty-fishy treat for them :)
Keep all gates to the front yard closed for the safety of the cats, two of the dogs think the cats are toys, not friends. Oops!!
Omah Jegok is a special place. It was an escape from a bustling and crowded city experience and I felt so blessed to call it my home for a few days. The space is roomy, artsy, and surrounded by nature. I loved sitting out on the porch petting my favorite cats, sipping tea while talking with Ina. We had so many great conversations about her organization, Indonesian culture and politics, music. I really appreciated her help with getting me a scooter and we also took a trip together to Bumi Langkit, a farm practicing permaculture, which was the highlight of my time in Yogya. Yogya would have not been the same without Ina's warmth, humor, easygoing attitude, and friendliness. If you are looking for a unique experience off the beaten path, this your place to be!
Ina's wonderful house, sorrounded by trees,is far enough from the traffic to enjoy relaxing moments in yogya. The room is really comfortable and the atmosphere is genuinely easy going and artistic. She' s a superb host always kind and helpful. If you love animals that's definetely the place to be...
Ina was in touch with me a few days before my trip and helpfully giving information on how to get there, which is some distance from the airport. She had offered to arrange for a driver to wait for me (should have taken it up!) but I declined, thinking I might want to be adventurous and find my own way there (not a good idea). Anyway, to cut the story short, Ina eventually had to guide my taxi driver over phone. All I can say is, luckily there was still light...
The retreat was as described by Ina - amidst greenery and sounds of village life, next to a river that was a source of activity for the villagers - on my first day there, a couple of men were wading in it with a ladder (and Ina joked that they could be doing a performance art!); on another day, I saw a man bringing a bucketful of laundry to wash it there. That was the view from my bedroom window :)
You need your own transport at this homestay as it's pretty secluded (being in the jungle). The next day of my arrival, I walked out to the main road, asked a local which bus I could take to the terminal, and rode with an Ojek (motorcyle taxi driver) to get to Prawirotaman where I rented a motorcycle for 70k rupiah a day. From then on, it was great fun getting lost exploring the entire city as well as my surrounds of Kasihan, Bantulan, and futher, Borobudor and Parangtitris.
I was especially looking forward to checking out the local Gamelan troupe but only heard strains of the music on my second last day there. However, their practice session was short (they're so good already!) and by the time I traced the location on my bike, with the help of a few friendly local boys on bicycles, the place was deserted. The boys helpfully found out for me that the next practice would be the next week!
I had a nice glimpse of local life and pretending I was local.
The place has a special vibe.if you wanna experience Yogyakarta in a different way this is your place. You will also need to be a dogs and cats lover. The place is full of animals Ina rescues.Ina recommended us a driver.Tioh , sorry I don t know how to write it properly. He was amazing.Kind , honest, friendly! You shouldn't hesitate about hiring him.the place is a bit far 15 min or 20 depending on the traffic from city center.maliboro .Wich can be an advantage if you want to be quiet and calm after your day. Thanks Ina.
I loved Ina's place even before being there.. But being there definitely confirmed that! The place is like a peaceful oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city (but not too far off) and I only wished I had more time to just hang around and just be. Don't expect your regular lodging at hotels, but you can be sure that what's there suffice. Even before arriving at Ina's place, she was so kind to have accommodated with favours I've requested; I am so grateful. And above all that, Ina and her friends (fur friends included ❤️) were so gracious in welcoming me and my friends with such warmth (music, laughter, conversations). Rachel, Janey and I had a good time and definitely look forward to returning! Thanks for an amazing time, Ina! :)
We Really liked Inas Place...if u go there, u don't stay in the City and can enjoy to sleep in the Jungle to listen to all Kind of Animal voices. We were Really enthusiastic about Inas work with the Animals and we would always recommend this accommodation.
Best host and accomodation ever! I extended my stay, left for two days and I am already back. Omah Jegok is a very beautiful and friendly place outside of Yogya, where you hear frogs and crickets instead of motorbikes and civilization noises. It's an oasis in a busy city, that still is close enough to be reached in a time range of 20-30 minutes. (motorbike or taxi).
Omah Jegok offers a quite place, a good cause and extremly friendly and helpful hosts. True activists who live and share an alternative lifestyle, that is hard to come by in Indonesia. If you feel comfortable about the terms animal liberation, veganism, feminism, anarchism and you also have a fondness of music, tattoos, art and a good drink, you won't find a better place to stay.
