About this listing
Secluded feeling beach bungalow just a half a block from the waves, surrounded by beautiful trees and located right in the center of town.
*enjoy the use of two free beach cruisers during your stay*
Da Mon Key Jungle Bungalow is located in the center of Playa Carmen of Mal Pais yet once you walk onto the property you might feel as if you are in the heart of the jungle. The spacious and well appointed studio features a super comfy queen bed, a single bed outfitted with bunches of throw pillows to double as a "bali bed", full kitchen, private porch area with seating area, outside dining area, and a hammock, plus indoor/outdoor bathroom surrounded by tropical plants, additional outdoor shower for rinsing off after the beach, gated parking & night time security guard.
The bungalow is a bit on the rustic side. Great for a couple or group of 2-3 interested in being right by a great surf spot and also in the right place for the night life. Central to great restaurants, the banks, stores & shopping.
Located on a nice size property and surrounded on two sides by another expansive property. One side has an apartment building nearby, but you won't notice that too much as it is behind the house & just a solid wall. There is a house a short distance from the bungalow, but far enough away to ensure your privacy.
As the name says we are down by the beach (1/2 block) right in the center of town, in the crossroads.
Someone will be there to welcome you and we are available at any time to help with travel plans, town advice, suggestions on what to do, see and eat, and anything else we can help with.
The kitchen is equipped with a stove and oven, a small refrigerator, microwave, pots, pans, plates and utensils.
There is a great fan in the bungalow.
All the surrounding outdoor space is free to enjoy. The patio is privately yours as well as your separate entrance.
The neighborhood is absolutely ideal. Across the street is the popular Bakery. Next door is the Playa Carmen "mall". The mall offers a variety of souvenir shops, a mini organic grocery store of sorts called Bean & Bejuco, and some of the best restaurants in the entire town, Product C and Chop it / Holy Cow Burger. Also nearby is a sports bar called Nativos. Not only do they offer a fun atmosphere for sports fans or for a refreshing afternoon beer, they also have delicious food and a very nice coffee and smoothie bar as well.
Playa Carmen Beach, only about 50 m from the bungalow, is one of the absolute nicest in the world. With lounge chairs and umbrellas available for rent, plus beachside service from the restaurant pizzeria Playa Carmen. A pampering, relaxing beach day is only a a few steps away.
If surfing or standup paddle boarding is your thing, there are some great surf shops including Jobbies, and world-class waves right in front.
Quad rentals, the banks, the pharmacy, pretty much anything you could ask for is right within a few steps, but when you are in the bungalow you would never know, as it feels like you are in a beautiful Jungle Park.
Since we are located in such a central spot, most places you'll be able to get to on foot. A beach bike is a great way to cruise around and get to father places since town is so long and stretched out. If you're up for some serious exploring like a day trip through the jungle over to Montezuma into the waterfalls, renting a quad is the absolute best way to go. For long distances like to visit other beaches on the peninsula, there are a few car-rentals right near the house as well. You have your own parking at the bungalow.
There is a public bus that comes through town, probably roughly every 2 1/2 hours or so. It goes from the crossroads, which is where we are located down through SantaTeresa. Once it returns to the crossroads it heads up to Cobano, the city up on the hills. The next time it comes back down to the crossroad it heads over to Mal Pais.
Twice-daily direct buses to San Jose pass right in front of the entrance to the bungalow at 6:30 AM and then again around 2:30 PM every day.
The closest airport is a very small strip of pavement and that is the Tambor airport. This is about 40 minutes away, and usually around a $50 taxi ride. Coming in by plane from San Jose is one of the most spectacular views of the area, including the gorgeous gulf and a breathtaking landing when you reach Tambor.
Registered quests only. No visitors allowed on property.
No drug use.
From Dec 01, 2016 - Feb 28, 2017 the minimum stay is 3 nights.
Hi! I'm a US native but feel Costa Rica is my home. Been here eight years and in the area of Mal Pais / Santa Teresa six and a half of those years. I'm always happy to help guests with any travel question, info on town, and anything else that might come up.
Looking forward to hosting you!
