Santa Teresa is a historic neighborhood; the only one still with trams in Brazil. Famous for its winding streets with old houses and museums, it is the most emblematic neighborhood of the city and one of the most popular for its cuisine and culture. Santa Teresa is known for its nightlife with a wonderful view of the Guanabara Bay, the Sugar Loaf and the city center.
Great places to visit are: Parque das Ruínas, Chácara do Céu, Benjamin Constant House Museum, Nossa Senhora das Neves Church, Selarón Stairs, and several ateliers of Brazilian and European artists who live in the neighborhood. They are all very close to each other and 10 minutes’ walk from the house.
And don't forget to ride the tram through the arches of Lapa, it is an awesome trip!
Santa Teresa is one of the neighborhoods where the famous Rio Carnival is more participatory and surprising.
For a Snack, there is an organic food store on Paschoal Carlos Magno street 124, called "Cultivar", which among other things, has a very good organic cheese bread and açaí; witch is a very powerful and typical Brazilian dish made of frozen and mashed açaí palm fruit.
The Bar do Mineiro, in the same street Carlos Magno but on the opposite side, next to the Church, has a famous feijoada. I love the kassler from Adega do Pimenta, but it's a small restaurant so it is better go early, especially on weekends; And For pizza there is pizzeria Tribas, which also delivers. All this places at only 5 min walk from the house!
Then at 15 min walk from the house there is Aprazível, one of the best restaurants of Homemade Brazilian food and cachaçaria, in country house environment with gardens and views over Rio, salty price but definitely worth.
Santa Teresa has many restaurants; I am giving you only some suggestions.
There are no banks nor ATM in Santa Teresa, but restaurants, bars and grocery stores usually accept credit cards.
From Santa Teresa you can walk to the city center, down the stairs of Selarón, which will take you directly to the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Arches of Lapa.

After spending a family vacation in Rio de Janeiro, I decided to return to the "wonderful city". You can´t explain what this city means, you have to come to know it, enjoy it and of course, return again and again!
I love the neighborhood, with its inland city climate, a different atmosphere that we only find here in Santa Teresa.
I feel great pleasure in showing my house and the city to my visitors. Especially the small places not so touristic and, therefore, much more cariocas.
