THE LOCATION AND HOME
This beautiful, warm, large home is located in an exclusive and very safe area of Burbank known as the Rancho Equestrian. The area is dedicated to homes with horse stables. Our home was built in 1938 in the Art Moderne style, with curving walls and hardwood floors throughout. The house was renovated in 2006 and the interior again in 2011
Hollywood star Ava Gardner and her husband (#2), big band jazz musician Artie Shaw lived here in the early 1940's.
The guest room is a spacious 15' x 12' with windows on two sides. It includes a 6' x 6' walk-in closet. The room also includes a 32' Sony TV, DirectTV with over 500 free channels, large desk, free internet connection, shelf space, mini-frig, and a private full bathroom.
The house has a library with over 1,000 books for your enjoyment, a large, comfortable living room with wood burning fireplace. The beautiful dining room seats 12 and has wall to wall, floor to ceiling windows and French doors opening to the patio rose garden. We have a large, modern, eat-in kitchen. Central air conditioning and heating.
A complimentary continental breakfast is included; box lunches are available for a small fee. Internet and DirecTV included. Upon request, free fax, copier, scanner, laptop computer, and printer. Laundry facilities.
Outside, we're on a double sized lot where there are four gardens, of which two are secluded by high walls, with over 100 rose bushes, fruit trees (guava, peach, apple, apricot, cuties), and extensive various species of lavender.
For musicians and songwriters, we have a detached High Sierras style cabin entirely paneled in honey colored knotty pine and fully instrument-equipped for qualified musicians. Built-in fireplace.
We have a horse stable with four stalls and a turn-out for those who want to bring their horses for an additional stabling fee. The Los Angeles Equestrian Center, a premier horse facility, is 8 minutes walk from our house. At least 6 stables with rental horses and guides are within close walking distance with over 200 miles of horse trails virtually across the street from us.
Plenty of off street parking for cars or even oversize rigs. Many visitors and local residents walk here.
Several restaurants are within walking distance, some with live music nightly.

Had a fun, and very comfortable night with Phillis and Randy. Awesome location when traveling in and out of Burbank Airport, and doing things in the Hollywood area. Attractive neighborhood, quiet yet close to everything. Already have my next stay booked!
Our stay with Randy and Phyllis was amazing. The couple are extremely personable, knowledgeable, genuine and lovely. We felt completely at home. Thanks to Phyllis we tried horseback riding for the first time up the hill for a killer LA view! The room and private WC were comfortable and clean. Perfect location to Disney or WB studio. Highly recommended!
Phyllis and Randy were the best hosts! My boyfriend was moving across the country for a grad school program with all of his stuff and they let us come early to drop off our suitcases with them prior to the check in time. They had amazing recommendations about local places for dinner and places to go. I will definitely stay with them again when we are in the area. They are great people who genuinely want to get to know people and learn about them. And they are just as willing to share their story also.
Phyllis and her husband Randy were there to greet me when I arrived. The house is lovely, comfortable and cool! Especially appreciated in this hot summer weather. The room is exactly as pictured and the bed is very comfortable. Hot coffee and fruit were offered in the morning but I had to dash off to work. Great stay - will be back!
We had an amazing stay in their house. They are easy going and generous ; they really helped us several times for different things. There was a meeting and we wish we could stay more.
Touroustic accomodation, for us, with nice breaksfasts and convenient bathroom. The place is really ideal as it's quiet and close to the places we wanted to visit.
What a great experience! My stay with Phyllis and Randy was much too short. Their home is welcoming and unique. I loved meeting their gorgeous horses as well! Phyllis recommended a local cantina to visit for live music - right next to the L.A. equestrian center. This local hang out was full of musicians and teachers, so I felt right at home. By the end of the night, I had an invitation to teach at that elementary school and an invitation to sit in with the band on my next visit. Now all I need is a horse and I might just become Phyllis and Randy's neighbor. Seriously, I'll be sure to send guests their way if they are visiting the area. They were as intriguing as the neighborhood. I would absolutely love to spend more quality time with them in the future!
Phyllis and her Husband are the perfect hosts which made my mothers and I stay 10/10. Their house is inviting, lovely and cool on a Los Angeles hot day. The location is great for the equestrian centre and easy access to the rest of LA.
There is an amazing supermarket around the corner and places to eat close. It was hard to leave. Highly recommend

About the Host, Phyllis
I am a horse lover and spend as much of my time with them as possible. We breed the rare Andalusian breed originally from Spain (the horse on which most "Knight" chess pieces are modeled. Our horses are movie stars, have been featured in books and magazines and are all around worldly and wise. I love to travel, been to Poland, Hungry, Austria and England. Can't wait to see more of our beautiful planet. I am a music buff and appreciate all genres of music. My husband and I are both passionate, fun-loving people.
I'm Randy, the "horse-husband," skilled at mucking stalls and changing water buckets. In my spare time from that, I'm an attorney and a mortgage lending company owner. I'm also an owner of a fledgling film production company. Like Phyllis, I'm an avid reader, hence our large library, though my taste runs to classics and to baseball. I've been an adult league hardball baseball player for the past 17 years (left field). Taking a DL break this year and coaching instead. We both have a lot of other interests and enjoy good conversation over a glass of wine or cup of coffee.
