THE LOCATION AND HOME
This beautiful, warm, large home is located in an exclusive and very safe area of Burbank known as the Rancho Equestrian. The area is dedicated to homes with horse stables. Our home was built in 1938 in the Art Moderne style, with curving walls and hardwood floors throughout. The house was renovated in 2006 and the interior again in 2011
Hollywood star Ava Gardner and her husband (#2), big band jazz musician Artie Shaw lived here in the early 1940's.
The guest room is a spacious 15' x 12' with windows on two sides. It includes a 6' x 6' walk-in closet. The room also includes a 32' Sony TV, DirectTV with over 500 free channels, large desk, free internet connection, shelf space, mini-frig, and a private full bathroom.
The house has a library with over 1,000 books for your enjoyment, a large, comfortable living room with wood burning fireplace. The beautiful dining room seats 12 and has wall to wall, floor to ceiling windows and French doors opening to the patio rose garden. We have a large, modern, eat-in kitchen. Central air conditioning and heating.
A complimentary continental breakfast is included; box lunches are available for a small fee. Internet and DirecTV included. Upon request, free fax, copier, scanner, laptop computer, and printer. Laundry facilities.
Outside, we're on a double sized lot where there are four gardens, of which two are secluded by high walls, with over 100 rose bushes, fruit trees (guava, peach, apple, apricot, cuties), and extensive various species of lavender.
For musicians and songwriters, we have a detached High Sierras style cabin entirely paneled in honey colored knotty pine and fully instrument-equipped for qualified musicians. Built-in fireplace.
We have a horse stable with four stalls and a turn-out for those who want to bring their horses for an additional stabling fee. The Los Angeles Equestrian Center, a premier horse facility, is 8 minutes walk from our house. At least 6 stables with rental horses and guides are within close walking distance with over 200 miles of horse trails virtually across the street from us.
Plenty of off street parking for cars or even oversize rigs. Many visitors and local residents walk here.
Several restaurants are within walking distance, some with live music nightly.

Already reviewed. Even better the second time.
Phyllis and Randy are welcoming, accommodating, helpful, and generous hosts. For us, talking to them was the most fun. In addition to that, we enjoyed fresh roses in our room and the bathroom, access to healthy snacks at all times, fresh bagels, excellent yogurt, and fantastic coffee. We ate "cuties"that came from a tree outside our window. We were invited to see their beautiful horses right in the back of the house. Their lovely home, clean and beautiful, is about a half mile from the Burbank Equestrian Center, three miles from downtown, and close to all places related to the entertainment world. We have already stayed twice and would happily do so again.
I had a great time staying at Phyllis and Randy´s place. The house and room are very nice. The best are the Phyllis and Randy. Very nice people, persoable, made me feel at home. I feel like we hit it off very well and if I lived in LA I am sure I would enjoy hanging out with them. One of the two night I ended up going out to dinner with Randy to a local restaurant with live musing and had a great time!
Phyllis and Randy are wonderful hosts and their home is in a beautiful area of Burbank. The house is immaculate and the room they are renting is lovely. I stayed with my dog, which I had never done before, and they went out of their way to make us both feel very comfortable.
Their home is located in the Rancho Equestrian area of Burbank, close to the Griffith Park Equestrian Center, and within easy access to major studios all LA has to offer. It is a peaceful sanctuary I highly recommend.
Perfect location for our month long stay in Los Angeles. Middle of everything, easy access to major arteries and a lovely neighborhood to boost. We loved walking our dog every day and encounter horses at just about any corner. It was like a little rural paradise in the middle of a metropolis. The house is adorable and our hosts could not be more welcoming. We rented a room but realized that we had the use of most of the house (kitchen, living room, reading room, gardens, etc...). Our dog loved her stay with Phyllis and Randy and the 2 horses. It did not take long to feel at home. Our hosts were always available and ready to help. Great experience.
Instantly felt right at home with Phyllis and Randy. Really wonderful hosts with great recommendations for things to do in the area. Room was very comfortable, lots of light, very clean and a good amount of space. Lovely house on a charming street in a convenient location. Can't say enough positive things about the experience! Will definitely book again.
We absolutely loved staying with Phyllis, Randy and max!
Fab hospitality and they are lovely people- interesting, helpful and very kind. We felt totally at home, and the house location was totally peaceful but only a minute or two from the main freeway.
We miss them already and would love to stay with them again. We highly recommend a visit, especially if you love old hollywood- staying in Ava Gardner and Artie Shaws house was amazing!
Phyllis and Randy are wonderful hosts making us feel at home and welcome in their comfortable home from the day we moved in. Our stay was almost three weeks and we couldn't have found a better place to stay.
We felt as though we had known them both for years and left having made new friends.
Randy and Phyllis are very nice people. These are the kind of hosts that you want on Airbnb. They are humble, knowledgeable, have excellent taste and have a very clean house. Their house has a very interesting location. The guest room is conveniently located in the house and has all the necessary things for a comfortable stay.
I had some time to talk with Randy sipping my morning coffee. He has a wealth of knowledge on several diametrically different subjects. Make sure you spend time with him.
I did not spend time with Phyllis in person, but it did not take a lot of time to figure out that she had excellent people skills. She planned my stay and worked with my ever changing schedule.
Their place will always remain my first preference to stay for my future visits to the city.
