This lodging was a lucky find! It's a great living space, with wonderful hosts (Wilka & David) whom are attentive but not intrusive. I was traveling alone but found companionship with another guest--although I had complete privacy, if I so wished. The neighborhood is close to good restaurants, and an easy (flat) walk to the Jardin and the Instituto de Allende. The bed was very comfortable, the dogs are not intrusive and adorable, and Wilka's breakfasts are legendary. On a recent "Art Walk" weekend, I explored local art studios and artist's homes in the San Antonio neighborhood. I can't wait to return!
We loved staying with Wilka & David so much that we are definitely returning with friends and family!! The bed & blankets were cozy and comfy! The shower had adequate hot water and was always accessible. The highlight of staying with Wilka are her scrumptious brunches, WOW can she cook well! We shared interesting conversations with both Wilka and David and count them among the new friends we made in SMA. Loved our visit & stay with this delightful couple!!
I reserved the place for my friend Sofi last minute, and she mentioned the place was very clean (regardless the dogs in the courtyard). It was very cold and they provided her with nice blankets. However we may suggest to have some heaters cause every year in Mexico is getting colder in December in San Miguel de Allende. Wilka's partner mentioned he tried to buy them but they did not found the heaters in the store. So next time will be appreciate it to have heaters when needed. Also it was a hole in the bathroom shower that supposed to be a window and it was cold to have a shower for Sofi cause of that open hole. But overall it was comfortable and clean for my friend. I saw the place and it was OK. Thank you.
Due to the unseasonably cold and damp weather during the time of Sofi's stay, we searched every store in town for heaters with no luck. We got warm heavy blankets in the meantime, and were finally able to find electric heaters, unfortunately only after Sofi's two night stay. Now we have electric heaters for each guest room. Thanks to Sofi's feedback about the architectural detail on the bathroom wall, we now have also installed a glass panel to ensure no cold air comes through into the bathroom.
Our stay at Wilka's began with fresh homemade banana bread and a well stocked kitchen area. The room was clean and tastefully furnished. A tad chilly but the weather was unseasonably cold so that was to be expected and we were provided with plenty of extra blankets to keep us toasty once we climbed into bed. Our hosts were warm, interesting and extremely helpful and went as far as arranging us a cab for a trip to a local hot springs. Our breakfast of eggs Benedict was restaurant worthy. Also not to be missed was the local dining recommendation of El Rinconcito tucked in just minutes away and the best Mexican food we've ever eaten. It's an easy walk to the city center so the location is great! The only fly in the ointment was a barking dog that made it difficult to sleep. The dogs don't bark when Wilka's home, but when she leaves they rarely stop. With that one exception, we would highly recommend this accomodation to others.
We are very grateful to have the feedback that the dogs were barking a lot while we were not home, and we are very sorry for the inconvenience that must have caused. We ourselves have a no-bark policy in our home and therefore we naively assumed the dogs would adhere to that policy when we were away! Nonetheless, we have begun "no-bark collar" training with our dogs to ensure the barking does not happen when we are not home.
Wilka hosted us in clean rooms and her breakfast on the weekend was a delicious surprise. Her place is on a quiet street relatively close to the center (about 10 minutes walk). If you visit San Miguel, Wilka’s place is a good choice.
Wilka is an amazing host. Thought in every detail to make our trip the most comfortable one. She makes some delicious pancakes! The place is great and it is walking distance from everything in the main plaza. Comfortable, warm and safe place to stay in San Miguel.
My stay was comfortable and the facility was very clean....my host went to great effort to make my stay a pleasant one....plain to visit again in December and looking forward to it....
