Cozy, fun home, near downtown & UT

House - Private room · Harvey Street, Austin, TX 78702, United States

The Space

Enjoy one or both of our private guest bedrooms and one private bath in East Central Austin. Our home is a warm and comfortable place, with bright colors, art, and plants!
The rooms accommodate up to 4 people maximum. We will only rent out the second bedroom to members of the same party renting the first bedroom (at $25 extra for a third and fourth occupant), so that if you need only the first bedroom your party has sole use of the guest bathroom.

LOCATION AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Our home is 2.5 miles from downtown, and from the Longhorn Football Stadium. We are located .5 miles from the MLK MetroRail stop that runs to East 6th (5th and Comal) and on to downtown (4th and Trinity), and .2 miles from bus lines (#6 and #18). We are also a quick .2 miles from TacoMex and a neighborhood BBQ joint! Manor Road eateries such as Thunderbird Coffee, El Chilito, Elaine's Pork and Pie, and East Side Cafe, are 1 mile away. Our home is 7 miles from the airport - an easy cab or bus ride.

ROOMS: Rooms are sunny and clean, and have lots of personality. The beds are full sized futons. Clean sheets and towels will be waiting for you! Wifi is available.

KITCHEN / LAUNDRY: Our kitchen is yours to enjoy while you are here. Available: French press, espresso machine, teapot, microwave, toaster oven, stove, pots and pans, etc. We have a washer and dryer, plus an inside / outside drying rack which will quickly dry your clothes in the warm Texas sun if you prefer.

YARD: Our lot is .25 acres - pretty spacious! Enjoy our front porch or small side yard, both strung with colorful lights, or our back porch and large backyard. The sky is huge out back - you can see the stars or clouds above and downtown Austin in the distance. Sunbathers welcome - you could get more sun than you could stand on any given day out there.

DOGS! We have two husky mix puppies born around 2013 New Year, Roxie and Zeus. They sleep in a crate at night, and hang out both outside and in the back tiled room pictured. They are super cuddly and friendly.

We love to host people in Austin, and are more than happy to offer suggestions for restaurants, activities, bars, or whatever interests you. We look forward to meeting you!

  • Very comfy stay with Julia and Tom! I'm an older woman and was concerned about using AirBnB instead of a hotel, but this absolutely worked out for me. I wanted the warmth of a home, the nice experience of having dogs around (their dogs are very laid back, and unobtrusive. I don't think they bark and they were "respectful," e.g. didn't nose around in my luggage!) The room looks like the picture shows it, uncluttered and sunny! The house has a lot of nice art hanging on the walls and is on a quiet street. Julia and Tom were so sweet that it felt like going to stay with a niece or a nephew. They just really wanted me to feel at home there. I was able to make myself good coffee in the morning and had a private bathroom. There was GREAT internet which is important to me because often in hotels they say they have wireless but it's weak. At night when I went to bed, even if Julia and Tom were still up, I didn't hear them. When I got up earlier than they did and padded around the kitchen, they didn't hear me. When I got up in the middle of the night and watched Netflix they didn't hear me. So even though it's a one story home, I felt there was enough privacy and enough company when I wanted it. Location-wise, it's about a 20 minute walk to a nice coffeehouse like the Thunderbird Cafe. I also noted that there was a bus that seemed to go down MLK Drive. IN SHORT, I would definitely stay with them again and I would tell others to stay with Julia and Tom.

  • We had a great time at SXSW and at Julia and Tom's sweet home! The house is only 2-3miles away from the downtown. It's so lucky for us to find such a great place to stay during the crazy festival. Julia and Tom are super friendly and helpful. They have two cute puppies in the house and they are super friendly too. We will definitely come back to South by and stay with them! : )

  • Myself and my two friends stayed with Julia and Tom and we can't recommend them highly enough! They have a beautiful, relaxed and comfortable place, lovely rooms, and a separate bathroom for guests. They made us feel so welcome! Their home is in an awesome area and they were always contactable and had heaps of recommendations for great places to eat and go out. The doggies are gorgeous! I would definitely stay with them again (for the amazing coffee alone!) and recommend anyone do the same. Thanks guys! :)

  • Julia and Tom were great hosts! This was my first AirBNB experience so I was on the fence. I will 100% recommend Airbnb AND Julia and Tom's house in the future. The location of the house was great, very close to both the airport, and downtown. They gave us tons of recommendations for places to see and eat. Never having been to Austin before, it was a huge help having them there. The house is clean, and the dogs are the BEST. Julia and Tom both made our visit to Austin so comfortable. We stayed in both rooms, and had our own bathroom that was great as well. The back deck is great for lounging in the sun, having drinks, and enjoying the Texas weather. I will be back to Austin that is for sure!

  • Tom and Julia are a great couple who looked after us incredibly well. We were rushing in and out a lot but they always made us feel welcome and at ease in their place. The house is very comfortable with a nice decking out in the garden to enjoy the Texas sun! The cute dogs and the free Austin coffee only added to the experience! Thank you for such a great stay,

    Alex and Will

  • Julia and her husband were very gracious and easy-going hosts and I won't hesitate to contact them before future visits to Austin. They were eager to offer advice about restaurants, transportation, and events happening around town during the week of Halloween. Julia responded quickly to questions and concerns via email and phone even before the stay began.

The house is cozy, brightly decorated, and has a spacious back deck and yard. A low gate partitioned an area in the house for her friendly dogs to roam, but they were just as happy to cuddle if you'd let them! My friends and I were able to use some fridge space and had a private bathroom to ourselves. Julia was kind enough to provide us with fresh coffee beans for our stay. It was a thoughtful touch that really made us feel welcomed.

The house is conveniently located between two bus lines and the light rail that run downtown so even without a car the location was ideal. A cab ride from W. 6th St. ran us about $12. As my first Airbnb experience, I'm really pleased with the overall convenience of the online service and the benefits of staying with locals.
