Watch great blue herons glide in for a landing while sipping your morning coffee in this large, airy, well-lit apartment. Your vacation get-away spot occupies the entire second floor of a cheery bright red barn on a small working farm.

The space

Entirely private, the apartment’s many windows feature spectacular views of the property’s 11 acres of native wetlands, woodlands, gardens, and critters (chickens, ducks, goats, rabbits, 2 friendly dogs, and abundant wildlife). Vaulted cathedral ceilings make the 650 square feet seem even larger! The entire apartment has been recently refurbished with new appliances and fixtures. Electric baseboard heat, a cozy propane stove with flickering flames, windows that open, and an elegant ceiling fan keep the apartment comfortable and romantic year-round. The ample closets, drawers, and shelves will make you want to move in and stay forever.

Guest access

Guests are welcome to use the covered deck with propane grill, wander about the property, and help themselves to ripe fruits and berries in season.

Interaction with guests

Rocky and Cheri will be as available as you would like us to be. Your comfort is important to us, as is your desire for privacy. Our home is near the building that houses the apartment, but the sight lines preserve privacy for both parties. We will be present, caring for the gardens and animals. A binder with recommendations about local services and entertainment is in the apartment and we are happy to provide personalized guidance to meet your individual needs.

Other things to note

Meals can be prepared in the apartment’s fully equipped kitchen or enjoyed at one of the many excellent local restaurants. Non-toxic, environmentally-friendly cleaning products are used throughout the apartment. A HEPA filter air purifier is used after every cleaning and is available for your use during your stay.

This is a wonderful hidden gem. It is cozy and warm with the gas stove. Fun to look around the property’s garden and see the animals. Get away from busy city life and enjoy the rural setting of Washington state. ❤️

A truly lovely experience! The place was clean, quiet, and cute as can be. Cheri and Rocky were incredibly nice and accommodating. We got in at midnight and were able to use our personalized code to get into the above-barn apartment with no trouble. The next morning we found a personalized card welcoming us to the Blue Heron's Nest, as well as farm fresh eggs and organic cheese waiting for us in the fridge. While there was no TV, there was lightening fast WIFI, a fully stocked kitchen, and an amazingly clean bathroom. If you're going to be in the Port Hadlock/Port Townsend area, you won't find a better stay.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Cheri's property for my birthday weekend and to visit the wooden boat festival in Port Townsend. The apartment is an easy 15 minute drive to Port Townsend and it is a wonderful place to find a quiet escape. The apartment is beautiful and had all of the amenities we needed for our stay, including a well-appointed kitchen, comfortable furniture, cozy linens, and plenty of local information, guides, and maps. There are lovely views of the property from the sundeck and it was fun to walk the property and say hello to the chickens and goats each day. Cheri was out of town, so we were greeted by her husband, Rocky, who made sure we had everything we needed. Fresh eggs from the chickens and a complimentary bottle of wine were much-appreciated bonuses of our stay.

Rocky and Cheri have lived in the Port Townsend area for 12 years. We love our sustainable agriculture lifestyle, which includes generous amounts of gardening, music, dancing, books, art, and lots of amazing food. We love sharing these aspects of our life with guests, but will respect your privacy while you're here. We strive to be as available as you'd like us to be, but inconspicuous when you want time alone with your loved ones or your own thoughts. Our goal is to facilitate your comfort and help you feel entirely at home.
