Generally I am present in the main house during our guest's stay and I prefer to greet guests upon their arrival, however this may not always be possible. I can be invisible, or I am always available by text or telephone, if not in person. I am always happy to offer ideas or suggestions to those looking for a locals opinion or perspective.
This quiet neighborhood is the oldest and one of the most desirable in Mt. Pleasant, with a mix of homes ranging from the early 1800's to modern. Most of the older homes can be found on or near the Charleston Harbor several blocks away. The neighborhood is not a planned development with governing HOA rules.
It is very helpful to have a car in our area, but the CARTA bus system route to downtown Charleston stops at Shem Creek, about 12 blocks from the apartment. A water taxi is also available to downtown from Shem Creek for $20 per person. It is a very nice area for riding bikes, as well, and there are several bicycle shops that rent bikes nearby.
This is a non-smoking apartment. Please feel free to use all available utensils and supplies provided for your convenience, however please clean kitchenware after use. Air conditioner unit is more than adequate to quickly heat and cool apartment. Please be energy conscious and turn unit off while away. This listing was exactly as shown in pictures and the description. Very clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed, plus a great bakery a few blocks away and very nice scenic walks just out the door. I loved staying here. Bret left us fruit and several other things you need when you arrive late as we did. The apt. was very private and secure.
We loved the cozy Old Village studio. It was sparkling clean and felt very new. Wonderfully spacious. Very private and quiet.
This is the perfect location for someone spending time in Charleston. It is a 10-minute drive to a very cool beach and beach town, Sullivan's Island. 15 minutes the other way, and you are taking the beautiful Ravenel bridge and arriving in downtown Charleston.
We are birders and were delighted to find out that we were 5 minutes away from a premier birding location, the Pitt Street Causeway. Lovely boardwalk.
Bret was a concerned host and made us feel very welcome.
Bret's place is fantastic -- clean, well-appointed, in a terrific spot in Mt. Pleasant. We stayed in town for the Family Circle tennis tournament and it was easy access to both Daniel Island and the peninsula.
He included many thoughtful appointments like Keurig coffee and milk in the refrigerator! The fresh fruit bowl was a nice touch and we availed ourselves of the air mattress in the closet for our 3rd guest. He was responsive and helpful when we arrived.
Bret was a great host - the directions he gave were clear to follow and the apartment was spotless and exactly as described in the listing.
There was fruit / bagels and other nice touches waiting for us, as well as a handy list of local shops, bars and restaurants.
The area is residential but it is an easy walk to Shem Creek which has some lovely bars and restauants. We also got the bus into Charleston one day which took around 30 minutes (20 minute walk to bus stop) which seemed easier than driving in and paying to park all day.
If you are visiting Charleston / Mount Pleasant I'd definitely recommend staying at Bret's!
This was a wonderful, comfortable spot to stay. It is in a historic neighborhood, great for walking and biking. It's quiet and Bret was very helpful and responsive. We would definitely return, comfortable bed, nice touches all around.
We had an amazing experience staying at this apartment- Bret made sure we had everything and it was so comfortable! Great neighborhood, parking was available, the apartment was cute and spacious! Plenty of towels, linens, comfortable bed, toiletries, even bagels, fruit and Keurig cups were left for us! The place was perfect.
This was our second stay with Bret at this great apartment. As before, Bret was a wonderful host and the apartment was perfect for us. We enjoyed our stay and the location is great. Easy access to everything you need and Bret supplies you with an informative notebook full of lists of nearby restaurants and attractions. I recommend this adorable apartment to anyone looking for a convenient and affordable place to stay while visiting Mt. Pleasant.
I enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, backpacking and kayaking. I have traveled extensively throughout the western United States primarily to experience and enjoy the natural landscape. I grew up on the coast of Charleston, South Carolina and the draw of the saltwater and all that it has to offer has kept me here. As a host I understand that guests may vary greatly in terms of their ideal lodging experience, but I do enjoy meeting new people and my goal is to ensure our guests enjoy their stay to its fullest.
