The Space

The apartment is accessed through a gated entrance separate from the main house for added privacy. It has a comfortable queen-sized bed, a loveseat that pulls out into a twin bed, and a queen air mattress. All bed and bathroom linens are provided. The kitchenette is complete with sink, refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave and coffee maker. Basic cooking and serving utensils are provided, as well. The immediate area also boasts the quaint Old Village business district, which includes the Old Village Post House restaurant, the old fashioned Pitt Street Pharmacy and soda shop as well as several boutique-style shops.

Sullivan's Island and its wonderful beaches is just two short miles away. There you will find sand, surf, sun as well as the Revolutionary War-era Fort Moultrie and many great casual dining establishments. Also two miles away is Patriot's Point, where you can play a round of golf, catch a tour boat to Fort Sumter, water taxi to downtown Charleston or tour the Naval & Maritime museum including the WWII-era Yorktown aircraft carrier. Skip the hotel and come experience all of what the Old Village of Mt Pleasant has to offer!

Guests will have access to the apartment and the garage below for bicycles or storage of other personal belongings.

Generally I am present in the main house during our guest's stay and I prefer to greet guests upon their arrival, however this may not always be possible. I can be invisible, or I am always available by text or telephone, if not in person. I am always happy to offer ideas or suggestions to those looking for a locals opinion or perspective.

This quiet neighborhood is the oldest and one of the most desirable in Mt. Pleasant, with a mix of homes ranging from the early 1800's to modern. Most of the older homes can be found on or near the Charleston Harbor several blocks away. The neighborhood is not a planned development with governing HOA rules.

It is very helpful to have a car in our area, but the CARTA bus system route to downtown Charleston stops at Shem Creek, about 12 blocks from the apartment. A water taxi is also available to downtown from Shem Creek for $20 per person. It is a very nice area for riding bikes, as well, and there are several bicycle shops that rent bikes nearby.

  • Cannot say enough about how great this studio was. The best location in old village. Great for walking to enjoy seeing all the beautiful homes in the neighborhood. Bret was so accommodating and he left bagels, juice, wine, etc for my stay. It is also great that there is a keurig to make fresh coffee in the mornings. I hate to write too much because I don't want everyone using up all availability in case I need it for future stays!!

  • Everything was great. We had a nice time at the appartment. It was pretty quite and cozy. Breakfast was nice and their is a great bakery just a few blocks away.

  • Was a great stay! Location perfect, close to everything we wanted. Bret is excellent, available but not intrusive. The fruit & bagels a nice added bonus.

  • The Studio Apartment was perfect for my weekend stay in Mt. Pleasant for a weekend wedding with my boyfriend. Before leaving, Bret reached out with a warm email welcoming us and providing additional information. We arrived a few hours earlier than anticipated, but he was so flexible in accommodating us. we were given a personal tour of the apartment. Bret made us feel so at home with coffee, fruit and bagels. He provided a binder of local places to eat, directions to attractions, and other things to do in the area. The neighborhood was quiet which was very nice. We may have even dabbled with a few of the board games provided. I would highly recommend staying here.

  • Our stay in Bret's apartment was our first Airbnb experience and it could not have been better! The apartment is comfortable and Bret was so kind to have coffee, juice, fruits, and bagels set for us. He also recommended nearby restaurants and attractions. It is perfectly located; about 15 minutes from Downtown Charleston, Sullivan's Island, and Foley Beach. Definitely a great stay!

  • Bret's apartment was just perfect for me and my boyfriend's stay in Charleston in March 2014! He was really wonderful and able to rearrange our stay dates slightly so that we could hit better weather, recommended a great restaurant, and a beach spot where we saw dolphins at sunset. The apartment was comfortable and the breakfast he provided (bagels, coffee, juice and fresh fruit) was just perfect. Bret was really easy to get a hold of for advice on things in the area and also provided a helpful binder of local places he recommended. The neighborhood was quiet and lovely to walk around. Staying there was so much better than a hotel, and we really enjoyed having a cozy, private place to ourselves at the end of a long day exploring the area. I definitely recommend staying here!

  • Our stay here was wonderful. It is located just across the bridge from downtown Charleston and is a short distance from Sullivan's Island. We biked to the beach, ate a delicious brunch at an Inn just down the street and explored the area. It was very easy to get anywhere we wanted to go from the apartment and there is a nice bike path that goes right to the beach!

The apartment was very clean and comfortable. Wifi worked great, it had everything we needed and Bret was very helpful.

  • Bret was the most wonderful host. He bent over backwards to ensure that we felt at home, going so far as to fill the fridge with wonderful breakfast items, give us ideas on what to see in the area, and washing our sheets when the baby got sick in them. We owe you for that one Bret!

The neighborhood is out of an eternal and perfect fourth of July weekend, the apartment was cozy and well kept, and our stay couldn't have been better.

  • Bret's studio was the perfect airbnb for a couple. We picked it because it was much cheaper than downtown Charleston, but we loved the location in Mount Pleasant. There's a cute Old Village with some restaurants and bakery within walking distance, as well as a pier overlooking the harbor and Sullivan Island. And a 10 min drive to downtown.

Bret was super-nice and very flexible - we booked the night before and said, "oh by the way, can we show up around 11pm?" And he met us then - though he also gave us directions to get in ourselves if we wanted to go later. The place was super-clean, stocked with all sorts of niceties like food and a great binder listing local bars, restaurants and attractions. Everything you could ask for!

  • Bret did a great job making sure our experience was superb. He made it very convenient for us to stay and make sure we felt at home. The apt had everything needed for a quick weekend getaway.

About
I enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, backpacking and kayaking. I have traveled extensively throughout the western United States primarily to experience and enjoy the natural landscape. I grew up on the coast of Charleston, South Carolina and the draw of the saltwater and all that it has to offer has kept me here. As a host I understand that guests may vary greatly in terms of their ideal lodging experience, but I do enjoy meeting new people and my goal is to ensure our guests enjoy their stay to its fullest.
