Filled with charm, history and convenient to downtown, the beaches and the harbor, the Old Village of Mt. Pleasant is the ideal location to maximize your time here and experience our area to it's fullest.
Private studio apartment is located above a detached garage nestled in the beautiful and historic Old Village of Mount Pleasant, just five miles from downtown Charleston and two miles from the beaches of Sullivan's Island.

Sullivan's Island and its wonderful beaches is just two short miles away. There you will find sand, surf, sun as well as the Revolutionary War-era Fort Moultrie and many great casual dining establishments. Also two miles away is Patriot's Point, where you can play a round of golf, catch a tour boat to Fort Sumter, water taxi to downtown Charleston or tour the Naval & Maritime museum including the WWII-era Yorktown aircraft carrier. Skip the hotel and come experience all of what the Old Village of Mt Pleasant has to offer!
Guests will have access to the apartment and the garage below for bicycles or storage of other personal belongings.
Generally I am present in the main house during our guest's stay and I prefer to greet guests upon their arrival, however this may not always be possible. I can be invisible, or I am always available by text or telephone, if not in person. I am always happy to offer ideas or suggestions to those looking for a locals opinion or perspective.
The neighborhood is the oldest and one of the most desirable in Mt. Pleasant, with a mix of homes ranging from the early 1800's to modern. Most of the older homes can be found on or near the Charleston Harbor several blocks away. The neighborhood is not a planned development with governing HOA rules.
It is very helpful to have a car in our area, but the CARTA bus system route to downtown Charleston stops at Shem Creek, about 12 blocks from the apartment. A water taxi is also available to downtown from Shem Creek for $20 per person. It is a very nice area for riding bikes, as well, and there are several bicycle shops that rent bikes nearby.

Bret was the most wonderful host. He bent over backwards to ensure that we felt at home, going so far as to fill the fridge with wonderful breakfast items, give us ideas on what to see in the area, and washing our sheets when the baby got sick in them. We owe you for that one Bret!
The neighborhood is out of an eternal and perfect fourth of July weekend, the apartment was cozy and well kept, and our stay couldn't have been better.
Bret's studio was the perfect airbnb for a couple. We picked it because it was much cheaper than downtown Charleston, but we loved the location in Mount Pleasant. There's a cute Old Village with some restaurants and bakery within walking distance, as well as a pier overlooking the harbor and Sullivan Island. And a 10 min drive to downtown.
Bret was super-nice and very flexible - we booked the night before and said, "oh by the way, can we show up around 11pm?" And he met us then - though he also gave us directions to get in ourselves if we wanted to go later. The place was super-clean, stocked with all sorts of niceties like food and a great binder listing local bars, restaurants and attractions. Everything you could ask for!
Bret did a great job making sure our experience was superb. He made it very convenient for us to stay and make sure we felt at home. The apt had everything needed for a quick weekend getaway.
My stay in Bret's apartment was my first experience using AirBnB and it couldn't have been better. Bret is a great host, friendly and helpful and the apartment is nicely set up, clean, comfortable and private. I really enjoyed it and would definitely stay there again. Thanks Bret!
My mother and I stayed at Bret's apartment when we participated in the Charleston Marathon bike ride. Bret greeted us upon arrival and was an excellent host. The location was perfect since we were only a 5 min drive from the start line. The apartment was perfect for our needs! Everything was clean and the neighborhood was peaceful and quiet. Bret provided fruit, bagels and cream cheese, and other snacks. The kitchenette was perfect for our needs. The bed was soft, which I thought would cause problems, but it was super comfortable and we slept great. We would recommend anyone traveling to either Charleston or Mt Pleasant stay at Bret's. We enjoyed it so much we tried booking it again for another trip in a few months, but it was already booked. We'll try again next time for sure!
Bret's garage apt in the Mt Pleasant Old Village worked perfectly for us. The neighborhood is very walkable with lovely old and not-so-old houses. We enjoyed walking to the Bakery on Pitt St for lunch which we ate in a nearby park. Also walked to the Pitt St bridge and Alhambra Hall. A long but doable walk to Shem Creek. There is a housing project on the next block but we never felt unsafe. The bed was soft which my husband loved (I like a firmer bed but it was fine). Bret supplied fruit, bagels, cream cheese, coffee, juice. The WiFi did not work when we arrived, but Bret fixed it almost immediately. Thanks to heater units in the room, it got nice and toasty very quickly. We will return!
This was a last minute booking for us. Came to Charleston to a friend's wedding! This was a very quiet and cute space that work out perfectly! I go to Charleston all the time... And Bret was a great host! I plan on staying here every time I come back to Charleston.. Location was great... bed was comfortable(believe it or not..... I average 6 hours of sleep a night....and my 1st night there......I slept for almost 10 hours!!!).
Looking forward to next time!
This place was perfect for on our visit to Charleston. Bret was great! Giving us good information in the restaurants near the apartment. There were bagels fruit orange juice and coffee provided. Next time we are in Charleston we will stay with Bret again.
It was my first time using AirBnB and Bret couldn't have made it more perfect. He had fruit, bagels and cream cheese, and orange juice ready for us and a binder full of things for us to do on our stay. It was in a great location and the place was very clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place! Thank you Bret!
This was our first time using airbnb, and we were very happy with it! Bret was friendly and helpful, and the place was very clean, comfortable, and had all the amenities you'd expect at a hotel--and then some. We liked having a little kitchen there with dishes, etc. for our use, and it was a nice touch to have fruit, chocolate covered pecans, bagels, and orange juice waiting for us. The entrance & unit felt very private, and the location was great! The neighborhood felt safe, we had a parking spot out front, and it was centrally located for a lot of the things we wanted to do. We'd definitely recommend this place!
