Car and Driver - from airport to Canggustay is 250,000rp and to airport is 180,000rp
Ask and I can arrange

CANGGU DAY SPA (if not sure about anything ask the girls at Canggu day SPA)
Iluh, Komang, Putu are the girls working there. Open 9-8
Jalan Raya Batu Bolong, Canggu ,

On the plane the immigration card will ask your address (do not use for postal) – 8B x Jalan Batu Bolong, Canggu

When you arrive in Bali - it's hot and humid - make sure you have layers of clothes so you can get off the plane with summer clothes on.

Follow the crowd - if you have your visa already - go to right and straight to immigration. If you don't have visa - then go to visa section and pay cash US$35 for a month visa. They will give you change in rupiah if you have another currency. Some countries are free visa.

Then luggage – IF you get a porter to assist you and you will go through X-ray and human and then porter will dump you near moneychangers booths (don't change money there). Give him (maybe 2 men) two $2 coins. That is enough in Bali and they will ask for more money and can be quite assertive - but you say "No more" and keep walking with your trolley!! As you come out into open-air turn to the LEFT. If meeting driver then meet at Flight information desk.

It is around 15km from airport but it might take 1-2 hours depending on traffic.

MONEY – Exchange rate in your country is usually not good – better to exchange in Bali. Travellers cheques no good in Bali. Bring cash and/or debit card (for cash withdrawal) and/or a credit card (limited places take it). Ask driver that he stop at a honest money exchange on the way to Canggu.

Money exchange can drive you nuts but at the moment the dollar is easy for the rupiah -- just take off 4 0's and its nearly right!
So 5,000 rupiah is 50cents; 100,000rp is A$10;
So when someone asks you for a million rupiah - don't freak - It's $100 !
To put money in perspective -- most worker Balinese (like staff at Accommodation or the folks working on the building sites) earn about $6 a day. So when you give a tip to a waitress/staff person of 10,000rp ($1) he/she is happy. $2 (20,000rp) and he/she is very happy!

A car and driver is $45-$60 a day (8 hours) depending on where you go. $3-5 tip per trip is good.

Taxi from villa to Seminyak for food or clothes shopping - not cheap but good quality (cheap and not good quality is Legian and Kuta) is around $10 a trip.

Actually if going for a serious shop get a driver/taxi to take you so he can pick you up and drop off etc - even if short distance gets hot and tiring
At Canggustay - excellent! fibre optic
Internet in Bali - make sure your computer/phone has wireless and then you can go to cafes and restaurants – Internet speed in Bali is slow... otherwise buy a local SIM in Bali and put in phone.

You can walk around Canggu but better do it early morning or evening for cool and traffic.
If you are interested in cooking - walk up to small market (Canggu Pasar)- about 300 m from rooms at about 6-630am or earlier.

Just to warn you - Bali is NOT like any other country. It has huge garbage problems, huge traffic problems and is hot! On the other hand is it is visually magnificent and the people are deeply spiritual (Hindu) and very sweet. Tourism is doing good and damage to Bali...

Please be very careful swimming in the sea. However if you are want to have a swim and lie around -- go to HOTEL TUGU (at the end of our road) where you are welcome to use their pool and change rooms as long as you have a drink (water, coffee or stronger). It's a magnificent hotel and has a museum. Also there is a public large swimming pool just 200m up the road - Segara Madu

Shirley's place is very budget friendly and about 1.5 miles to the beach. I would say walking to the beach is doable but you would want to rent a scooter. There is no AC here as it gets very hot so the cold shower feels quite nice. For the price you cant beat this place. A bit hard to locate but its a cute, quaint little place. Everyone is kind and always there if you need anything.

Shirley's place was great for my first stay in Bali. She responds almost immediately which was helpful for me as I contacted her pretty last minute. I did not rent a scooter.. walked to the beach everyday which was definitely doable but got old after two days. Great cafes on the street. Shirley was also super accommodating in letting me stay an extra night last minute. If you're renting a scooter this place will be even better as you'll be able to explore more than I could! As a solo female traveler I slept with my screen door closed but unlocked and main door open and felt perfectly safe doing so!

I was very happy to stay here for the month of September. I was welcomed at the airport by a driver which Shirley arranged. I was also upgraded to the room with the largest bed right before my stay which I really appreciated :) The bed was incredibly comfortable and I was really happy to come back to a clean room with fresh bedsheets and towels every day. One downside to staying here was the frequent loss of power which was annoying to deal with but is part of living in Bali. I also would recommend future guests invest in a motorbike as I walked almost everywhere which was tiring in the humidity. Overall, I was happy with my stay and miss waking up to the sounds of the island and the smell of incense wafting through the air.

Nice small room. Two fans and water refills. The Internet was reliable. A little noisy with construction going on behind room, also power went out once, water went out once. But good room.

Shirley's homestay was great. Though we never met in person, she was very easy to communicate with and was very responsive to my questions. She offered to arrange an airport pick-up and let me stay an extra night due to my luggage being delayed. The room was simple, clean and had everything I needed. Warm water, Wifi, fans and a small closet which I could lock. I didn't rent a motorbike through her, but she offered this as well. I would definitely stay here again on a return visit to Canggu.

I have to say, Shirley's place is great! Since someone extended his stay in the room I originally booked, Shirley moved me to her "Blue room" which is on the property where she lives. Once I arrived from the airport, I went to the Canggu Day Spa where one of the girls took me on her scooter and showed me this beautiful place where I was going to stay for 10 days. It has a pool and a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, which I shared with two other female travellers. Shirleys dog "Maxie" also stayed with us. He is a very friendly and cute dog and it was nice having him around. The room (and the whole property) was clean and spacious and I slept very well on the comfortable bed. There was also free drinking water provided for us. Since Shirley was not in Bali for my time staying there, I never met her in person. But it was very nice exchanging messages over Airbnb and she is always concerned about her guests needs. If I had any questions I could ask the spa girls and they where always friendly and helped where they could. The surrounding area is save and close to the beach (it took me maybe 5 min with the bike) and you have many nice restaurants and cafes near by. I definitely would stay in one of her rooms again, if I come back to Canggu.

I love Bali and the King Valley in Victoria. Love to travel and thoroughly enjoy the abundance of nature in Bali and NE Victoria- the delightful people, food, plants, sunshine...Come and enjoy this wonderful island and stay.
"my story - I'm 60....I've been travelling overseas since I was 19... actually we travelled as a family since I was 6 years old. Kruger National Park each year, Mozambique each year around July, and then the sea - like Plettenberg Bay in summer time. Us "kids" all have it in our blood... I love the intertwinings, stories, colours and happy heart I get when travelling. Travelled to more than 30 plus countries and lived in 6 countries. And recently calculated 12 homes in last 12 years :) So at heart - a nomad.
Share my time between Victoria Australia and Bali :)
Travelled to Bali in 1975, and 1979 and now happily call it home 6 months of the year -- the other summer months I am in Cheshunt and love this landscape too. I really like and appreciate AirBNB - as a host and traveller (thanks guys!) - so easy and pleasant :)"
