The Space

Through some unexpected twist of fate, we have gone from renting little houses in cold, inaccessible parts of the country to a huge 5 bedroomed farmhouse on the stunning Cornish Riviera, just off the Roseland Peninsula and within the wider estate of the Lost Gardens of Heligan. From our back garden we have a view of the sea and a footpath leading straight to Pentewan beach, less than half an hours walk away. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are on our doorstep and nowhere in Cornwall's wildly varied landscape is more than a day trip away.
With there being only 2 of us, we had to decide what to do with the extra 4 bedrooms. A traditional run of the mill B&B was never going to be our style and long term lodgers seemed all very permanent. Right about then, Airbnb was recommended to us and the prefect solution clicked. What we have now is a giant homestay, hopefully somewhere you can really relax and feel at home. You are welcome to make use of the kitchen to cook meals, and help yourself to tea and coffee whenever you fancy. We have a piano in the living room that we can't really play so its particularly nice when we get guests who can make the most of it.

We try to be as flexible as possible, no strict check in or out times we work this on a day by day basis depending on what your plans are. If you are travelling as a family we can put a double or single airbed in one of the rooms so you can all stay together or we have a bunk room perfect for extra adults or kids. If you are not sure if we can help, the best thing to do is get in touch, let us know what you are looking for and we will do our best to help.
The kitchen and bathrooms are shared with the whole household, obviously you have your private bedroom and there is an old slate floored living and dining room shared with other guests. We have our own living area where our animals stay so you will never find yourself tripping over us or our animals (unless you want to that is!) but you always know where to find us. Next to the kitchen at the back of the house is the old pantry where you are welcome to use the fridge and storage space for your own food. On from the pantry we have room for safe bike, surfboard and kayak storage.

Breakfast is continental style consisting of our own handmade organic bread, cereals, oats, fruit, a selection of teas and coffee, milk and soya milk, jam and marmalade. If you fancy a fry up you are welcome to supply the ingredients and use the kitchen to cook this yourself. We lay out our breakfast in the dining room the night before so its easy to find in the morning and ready for you whether you rise at 6am or 12pm!

There is parking available on the driveway for at least 5 cars. If you are travelling by public transport we are more than happy to collect and drop you from Truro or St Austell stations. We can also help with lifts around the local area for a small fuel charge. Our closest bus stop is at Heligan (10 minutes walk) but the drivers will usually stop outside the house for drop off's if you ask.

Pets are welcome to stay at the house, obviously our first priority is keeping our animals safe and the house comfortable for everybody so please read over our house rules if you are interested in staying with a pet.

Our closest shop is Lobbs Farm Shop, 10 minutes walk from the house. We are 1 mile from the historic fishing village of Mevagissey, home to plenty of pubs, restaurants, quaint little shops and an impressive two- walled harbour. Pentewan, also 1 mile along a dedicated footpath, is a small town with a pub, a few restaurants, cycle and water sports hire and an extensive, very beautiful beach (email hidden) on the sand. The Eden Project is 10 miles away by car or there is dedicated cycle route directly from the house.

The bunk room contains one set of adult size bunks (so 2 beds) and is perfect for older kids or adults alike, or just as a more private, comfortable alternative to staying in a hostel. This room sits at the front of the house so gets good light throughout the day and has a view of farmland and woodland out towards Heligan Gardens. All our rooms are upstairs and across the hall from a bathroom so you never have far to go. Both bathrooms are cleaned meticulously several times each day.

Although our homestay does help pay our bills it doesn't feel like a business, we love filling the house with life and sharing our good fortune.

  • What can I say that hasn't already been said? My friend and I just spent a lovely easter break at Peruppa Farmhouse! The bunk beds were comfortable and the bathroom was spacious and sparkly clean at all times. It was amazing to wake up to a healthy breakfast spread (with homemade bread and jams! yum!) every morning. The farmhouse is ideally located for the Heligan gardens (10 min walk) and the quaint little harbour village of Mevaggisey (20/30 min walk). We even managed to make a day trip to St Ives thanks to Vanessa and Lou who kindly dropped us at the Truro station. I must say that what makes Peruppa an experience are the two amazing hosts. They were warm, welcoming and always around to help us anytime we needed it. And we spent a great time having lively conversations with them! Their dog dillon and the two cats are adorable and very friendly. We would STRONGLY recommend staying at Peruppa for anyone visiting Cornwall. Already planning another trip there with a bigger group! Thank you for everything Vanessa and Lou! Swathi and Natasha xxx

  • We've been unforgivably slack in not reviewing Vanessa and Lou earlier, but it's difficult to find words that do this beautiful place and these wonderful people justice!
We spent a fantastic week at Peruppa, which we chose for it's proximity to mevagissey and the cycle paths which we couldn't believe were as close as they are!
Vanessa and Lou are brilliant hosts, always happy to help and advise and coming home in the evenings to people that want to hear about your day and have a chat with you made it feel like we were coming home to family each night.
The rooms are beautifully furnished and it was great to have such a fully-equipped kitchen. Sitting in the garden at night surrounded by the cats was magical and we couldn't have asked for somewhere more relaxing to turn off from every day life.
Suffice to say we were truly sad to have to leave and hope to visit again in the summer!

  • Lou and Vanessa really made our stay - they are lovely, warm people who are dedicated to making your time there as relaxed as possible. The bunk room was light, a good size and had comfortable beds. It's right next to a very spacious bathroom. The breakfast is amazing - complete with homemade bread and delicious flapjacks. We really enjoyed meeting their lovely dog Dylan as well as their two cats. We would certainly come back again!

  • My friend and I had a great time in Cornwall! Our hosts were warm and welcoming. The room was warm, clean and large. Loved the dogs and the fresh bread in the morning! Definitely recommend hiring a car and exploring all of Cornwall as public transport is a bit unreliable. :)

  • The bunk is a really small room, the bunk beds are a bit low, but the room was super comfortable, so were the beds. There is a small desk that can be folded and a closet that fit our bag so there was nothing cluttering the room. The bathrooms were huge and comfortable.
Vanessa and Lou made us feel comfortable being in their home and using their kitchen, and helped us despite our early arrival and let us leave our luggage at their home se we could enjoy our last day.
In the morning we had jam and freshly baked bed waiting for us alongside tea and coffee.
Their house is situated right next to the Heligan Gardens. The only problem we had was transport which is not that frequent between Mevagissey (nearest village with small shops) and St. Austell.
If one wants to buy groceries of anything, they have to get to St. Austell. Mevagissey has some shops with basics, cafes\restaurants and a bakery, but if one wants to go there\walk one has to keep in mind that everything is closed by 6 p.m. tops.
Overall we had a nice experience at Vanessa and Lou's and would recommend staying there.

  • Vanessa & Lou's Farmhouse is a wonderful place to spend time. Beside lovely bedrooms and massive bathrooms, there are the communal kitchen, living and dining rooms where you can have a nice chat with the hosts or other guests. There are amazing things to visit nearby, like The Lost Gardens of Heligan or Pentewan beach. And if you want to go somewhere a bit far away, then Vanessa is always willing to give you a lift. We are definitely looking forward to spend more holidays here. We are missing the smell of homemade bread already!

  • I loved staying with Vanessa and Lou. I immediately felt welcome, they have a lovely house with a lovely ethos and nothing is too much trouble, they genuinely want their guests to have a good experience of their stay and of Cornwall in general. I was a few days into my holidays when I arrived and felt myself becoming more and more 'human' every day. Thank you Vanessa and Lou and it will be a pleasure to return, I would definitely recommend you to anyone and everyone!

  • Meeting Lou and Vanessa was one of the best part of our road trip in South England. I honestly think that I have never met people who care that much of the well-being of their hosts. I will really, REALLY, recommend this place to friends and family and look forward to be back in Cornwall just to visit the Gardens of Heligans and have a good chat with Lou and Vanessa in their lovely kitchen, and maybe this time make the bread myself...because there is fresh home-made bread for breakfast ;) Just loved to stay there !

We both love this part of the Country with a passion and we were lucky to find this beautiful house in what we think is the perfect location. It's a project though! as most of the house and gardens require, or have required a lot of re decorating and re furbishment, which fulfils both our interest in creating warmth and life into a house thats let just say, had been a little neglected! Fortunately we love all things DIY and very much enjoy using materials that we obtain from tradespeople, either no longer needed by them, or in exchange for products we have or have made. The whole buying, selling, exchanging and recycling is an ethos we very much involve ourselves with and with this in mind you will find many things within our home that reflect this, some obvious and some not! We share the house with our lovely natured animal family consisting of our beautiful dog Dillon, 2 personality filled cats (who tend to be the purring welcoming party on your arrival!) and our gentle little pet rats. All the animals walk with us through the fields and woods alongside the house (well, when the rats do come too, they actually hitch a shoulder ride!) and its probably when we are most at one with ourselves and nature with each morning stroll to view the sunrise over Pentewan Bay. Barn owls nest in the neighbouring outbuildings across from the house and Heligan have their webcams set up to view 24/7, but we are privileged to be able to sit in the garden and watch their nightly fly bys, so we really do have the best seat in the house! We love music, film, theatre, discovering new places and have a big interest and passion for cooking and our guests always have home made breads and various other food samples as standard on any one day. We want people who come here to love the house and the area as much as we do, but above all we want everyone to just relax, be themselves, take time to themselves with their children or dogs or have a friendly natter if they want to and enjoy the freedom to live here as we do, all under the supervision of our house animal mascots Dillon, Jade Django & Dexter!!
