Ischia di Castro is a small farmers village immersed in nature that dates back to the Etruscan period. The people are down to earth Italians who enjoy a friendly chat w visitors. Local cooking is inexpensive and delicious. A visit to a time long ago.
Archway below clock tower of Castle offers a welcoming and narrow entrance into the historical center of the Village.
This old world charm apartment is located in the historical center of the small, quiet village of Ischia di Castro, bordering the Tuscan hills. It is situated in the region of Italy known as Tuscia and ideally located for visiting many famous locations and towns in Tuscany and Lazio, including Saturnia Hot Springs, the Vulci Etruscan Ruins Park, the towns of Orvieto, Bagnoreggio, Pitigliano, Sorano, Bolsena, Montefiasconi, Viterbo and Tuscania, as well as the beautiful beaches of Calpabio and Argentario. Endless small historical villages drape the surrounding landscape and hilltops and are a delight to discover and explore.
The apartment is newly restored in the delightful characteristic style of ancient Renaissance Italy, with exposed original stone walls and log beamed ceilings, original Roman style coccio pesto floors. The kitchen counter has beautiful Renaissance terra-cotta pieces enlaid in the kitchen counter. The home was historically part of the large House of the Fraterni (the home of the Priests) and is situated within a short walking distance to the Duomo Cathedral. Accommodations include a private bathroom/shower and kitchen/dining area with a small balcony overlooking the garden and nearby valley. A pot belly stove sits in the fireplace to warm up on chilly nights and windows on both sides of the apartment provide a nice cool cross breeze during summer months. In addition to the unique rustic charm of it's style, the apartment offers the comfort and coziness of modern living.
The village is located within the main territory of the fascinating Etruscan Civilization, a fascinating and highly intelligent culture, which existed before the Roman period. There are numerous Etruscan caves carved into the cliffs of Tufo stone upon which the village is perched. Three valleys and two rivers surround the village, making it the perfect timeless escape into the peaceful, silent ambiance of nature. Enjoy endless walking, hiking, biking and riding paths in the nearby valley, where you are surrounded by nature, without ever getting into a car. Poppies, wildflowers and sunflower fields drape the surrounding hills in Spring and Summer. The village is small with everything from the Macelleria (Butcher/Deli) up the street to the Vecchio Forno Bakery which still uses an antique wood burning oven to make hot Croissants and fresh Bread daily. The best little secret of our village is the family run local restaurant, Giggiotto's, featuring delicious mama's cooking only steps away.
You can get to the village from the Airport or Rome by train and bus as well as go to the beach and nearby villages by public transport.
The WWF (World Wildlife Fund) Preserve is an untouched, wild and pristine beach at the sea just a short drive away. The famous world renown healing waters of Saturnia hot springs are only a 30 minute drive into the Tuscan hills. Famous and spectacular hilltop villages scatter the distant hills and provide endless exploration, festivals and sight seeing. The beautiful, crystal clear spring fed Lake Bolsena is just a few minutes away by car. Here you will discover quaint restaurants hidden amongst the tree lined shores where you can indulge in delicious dining while you nestle your toes in the grass. Discover and enjoy the delicate flavor of the local fish, caught fresh from the clean lake waters.
Aaaaaahhhhhh...need we say more...just come and let your soul melt into the unforgettable experience of your lifetime. Here you will experience not only the heart of the village but the soul and culture of the local Italian contadini (farmers) ...nestled away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities. If you are lucky you will come during the Wine or other Culinary season and get invited by a local to join them for samplings while they indulge in the art of making their own in their Cantinas found below the homes in the historical center. Warning...it may change YOU and your life ...forever !! :)

Sweet, sweet Anna! Thanks again for all your hospitality and wonderful days in Ischia di Castro - it was an experience of the greats. We so much enjoyed your beautiful, "bohemian" and clean home, totally authentic and amazing Ischia de Castro with grocery store, greengrocer, bakery, restaurant and bar - approximately one of each:-). Your place has everything you need and is geographically situated in the heart of amazing experiences with water, hiking and history. We miss you and either you come to Copenhagen or else we´ll be back at G+T time !
Beautiful Apartment in a classic italian small, beautiful (non-touristic!!) village!
Anna was the best host!!! She is lovely and very helpful in giving a lot of tips to see in the area of Ischia di Castro.
We spent our best days of our italy-roadtrip there!!!
It was great to stay at Anna's place and Ischia di Castro is a lovely non-touristic place, which makes the real Italy experience complete.
Anna was very helpful with information about restaurants, sightseeing etc and made us feel at home.
Ischia is 40 minutes from the see and 20 minutes from the lake, and there are many more interesting places to see around.
If you like authenticity and Italy, I would recommend to stay here.
Anna´s appartment is lovely. Located in the old part..... that gives you the possibility to feel living for many years ago, but yet in 2013!
Anna is the best host!!!! She is there for you ..... I´ll be back Anna!!!
Anna was very friendly and helpful. She had lots of suggestions for where to go and what to do in the area. It was a pleasure to stay at her place.
I couldn't have wished for a more charming place to stay on my trip to Ischia Di Castro. Anna is warm and hospitable, making you feel at home right away. She gladly advised me on all the things the area has to offer ( which is a lot). The place is tastefully and artistically renovated, maintaining it's original charm. What a pleasure it was to sip my morning coffee in the lovely kitchen with it's flower- filled balcony overlooking the valley. So quintessentially Italian! Even on a warm day it stayed comfortably cool here. I slept really well. It was clean and had all of the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay. I wish I had planned to stay for longer as It was hard to leave this delightful place. I will definitely be back!

From Texas - California...living in Italy.
I value nature, beauty and inner peace, honesty and dignity for all life.
I enjoy the beach, the lake and mountains...all forms of nature. I like to camp, bike, hike, ski on water and snow, dance, ride horses and do interactive sports. I am fascinated by the history of Italy and enjoy exploring all the villages and historical sites that are in abundance here. Traveling and meeting new people is very refreshing for me, hence it is a pleasure for me meet other hosts as well as host guests at my home and to tell them about all the great places to go to in this area. I am a quiet and tidy guest and enjoy quiet time.
I like the simple experiences life offers like sunsets, a good meal, baby's smiles and small gestures of kindness.
