Good news for you, we've got an extra bedroom! You should totally come stay with us.
What you get: your own private room in a 2 bedroom apartment, clean linens, dresser drawers, fridge & pantry space, free wi-fi, access to our board games (don't lose any pieces!), access to video games on major consoles, and viewing of our growing movie collection. There's in-building laundry. It's not free, but it's also not down the block. It's also not expensive.
Btw, your bed is a full-bed. It's super nice and comfy. It's nicer than our bed.
Where you are: you'll be staying in gorgeous Inwood, the tip of the Isle of Manhattan.
Yes, we are still on the island of Manhattan, we're just at the top of it. You probably want to chill at the other end, which is extremely easy to get to.
Our apartment is on the same block as the A train, which can take about 30 minutes to get to midtown. Seriously, this train can connect you to many of the attractions that people come to this great city to see. The 1 train is also super close. And so are a bunch of buses, including Express buses. MetroNorth is not far.
Saturdays bring us a great year round farmer's market.
Enjoy the many parks of the neighborhood - Inwood Hill, Isham, Highbridge, and Fort Tryon, which is home to The Cloisters.
The neighborhood is also chockfull of great restaurants and bars.
We love and know this city very well, so we can help you navigate, and get to where you need to go, as well as help with recommendations.
You Gotta Be: FREE. Just joshin'. Clean, respectful. That's pretty much it.
Beware of cat: I mean, we have a cat. He's super sweet. The nicest cat, ever, really. He's not a needy cat. He is a nosy cat. Here's a great thing, you have a door. He doesn't shred furniture. But, yeah... he's a cat, and he does cat things. Also, he's really big. He also will go to a room where people are talking, because I think he thinks he's missing out. It's funny.
Your Roommates: Laid back types, with jobs (so... we won't be home all day, but we'll be sleeping at nighttimes, so SHHHHH.).
PLEASE NOTE: Even though our check-in time is 5 pm (17:00), we're actually pretty flexible about that. Basically, anytime before 9 am, and after 4 pm (16:00). During the day, we're at work. We're working. Careering and whatnot. It's difficult to take time out of our day to do check-ins at 12 noon - we're sorry! However, you can check-in whenever you want on the weekends!
Geoff: fuzzy, husband-type, thinks he funnier than he is, very quiet, except with a beer in him. Glasses.
RATING: stoic Lebowski
Quote after reading the description: Sounds about right.
Dezh: the wife, bringer of giggles, giver of death stares, lifelong New Yorker, lover of baking and godawful movies and television. Reading glasses.
Moss: cat, BIG CAT, not a fat cat. Don't call him fat. You wouldn't like it if he called you fat. He's just mossive. Cats don't wear glasses. ...yet.
RATING: Mosscow, as big as Mother Russia
Geoff approves of this listing kinda sorta, and says "I think it's a good start!"
The FINE Print: We don't want this relationship to start by lying or misleading. This is a pre-war apartment. That means that on the 5th floor, in exchange for our excellent views, we get crappy water pressure. The water is always hot, but... there's not so much of it. This is a common thing in old buildings. Don't believe me, watch the first few episodes of Suburgatory, because they totally reference it.
UPDATE ON THAT MESS: When we first moved in, the Super at the time told us the shower was a lost cause. We have since gotten a new Super, and he's amazing and upgraded the shower! It's definitely a much better experience, but keep in mind the water pressure is still quite low. Not to worry, you will still have a full lovely shower-cleaning-yourself-time.
LASTLY: Guys, we're in the apartment, too, ya know. Before booking, please take a moment to tell us a little bit about yourselves. We would like to know a few sentences about the people that we would be opening our home to.
I mean, we wrote a fricken novel... You don't have to, but it would be nice to know a little bit more about you!
Update: We're pretty laid back folks, and it pains me to add this, but lately, we've been getting a lot of inquiries where people are trying to take advantage of our generosity before staying with us. We have these things noted and clearly marked in sections Airbnb has set as standard for all listings, but let's see if this answers your questions before booking -
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PEOPLE: We've limited the maximum to 2 guests for the comfort level of potential guests. We've also set that limit in place because we are home the entire length of any guest's stay. While our apartment may be big by NYC standards, it's still a tight living space. Yes, we're doing Airbnb, but we'd also like to feel comfortable in our own home. Trying to clean up, accommodate, and move around an apartment with 3 or more additional people is not something that we would like to experience. Especially when we are trying to live our day to day lives.
CHILDREN: We love kids. We love babies. However, our home is not child-proof. Our young nephew occasionally stays with us, or comes over. We and his parents are comfortable with his safety in our apartment because we've known him and have been watching him from birth. No matter how well behaved they are, we do not know your children. We do not want to have to worry about their safety. Also, 2 adults and 1 child are still 3 people. Just because kids are smaller does not mean that they don't count as an extra guest.
PRICE: We've set what we believe is a fair and inexpensive price. We are not open to negotiations. Please respect that.
If these things are a major concern for you, please search for a home that is more compatible. And please show your next hosts the same courtesy and not try to push the expectations of a relationship that we've all already set up through the site.
No smoking, please. Not that we've had this problem, but please don't smoke in the hallway either. Please be respectful of our neighbors (WHO ARE AWESOME!) and keep all smoking outside, along with any other loudness and shenanigans!
Please be respectful of the fact that we are both working regular business hours and have to wake up in the morning, so don't come in drunk and jump on our bed. That's rude, y'all.
Nadezhda and Geoffrey were absolutely wonderful hosts! They left clear and detailed instructions on how to find their apartment which was extremely helpful being first time visitors to NYC! Their apartment is conveniently located right next to a main subway line which can easily take you to all the main tourist destinations in Manhattan. They were both very friendly and welcoming and answered any questions we had about New York. Being our first time in the big apple I could not have asked for kinder hosts or a greater location. Close to the subway and not overly loud at night either. Definitely recommend for both first time and seasoned visitors to this busy city!
Nadezhda and Geoffrey were nothing short of wonderful hosts. They made me feel at home, safe, comfortable, and prepared for my solo trip to NYC. Their apartment is clean, the room is spacious, and is about a 2 minute walk to the A train, which will take you right down to all the sights you would want to see! Of course, if you need directional help or advice, they are super helpful and have plenty of guides and brochures for you! I would stay with them again in a heartbeat, and would advise my friends to do so as well! And, how could I forget Moss, the most affectionate, wonderful cat ever! Really, you should stay with them just to hang out with him. He is a really cool cat.
- The A subway line just 20 secs walking from the appartment, the line 1 is 10 min. walking. So the connection with downtown is the best thing here.
- Geoffrey & Nadezhda were the best hosts possible. They helped us with everything and always answered all my questions before arriving. They even bought a hairdryer after i asked if they had one.
- There are no neighbours around the room,so nobody will disturb you
- The appartment wasn't clean at all. It's not at all organized or clean as it is shown in pictures. In our room the drawers in the chest of drawers, the floor and shelves in the bookcase needed a deeper cleaning. So, we cleaned by ourselves and it was so dirty. Also the bathroom , where the cat lives needed it. It smelled like cat poop.
- I don't know if it was a thin walls or thin windows problem , but you will hear everything that it's happening in the streets. It was like if we were sleeping outside, and there is a main street in front of the flat full of cars.
We're sorry that the apartment was not as clean as expected. While we understand that it cannot change your experience, we would like to make sure that our future guests do not have the same problems. If you have any other suggestions, please drop us a message so that we can make sure to fix any issues before anyone else stays with us. We may be overlooking issues because we are in the apartment, so we would appreciate any and all feedback.
Again, we're sorry that any part of your experience was less than stellar. We do strive to provide the best stay we possibly can.
Nadezhda and Geoff
Private room so cute and clean! They are so welcome and prompt to help you whatever your need is. The cat is very fun and cute. I had lot of fun there! I really advise their hosting.
Awesome place to stay! Not anything negative to say! Nadezhda and Geoffrey has been so helpful and really easy to communicate to. The place was also right next to the trainstation, so really easy to get around:). Would love to stay her again and will defently recomend to stay her!
Nadezhda & Geoffrey were good host. We spend time watching some TV and talking various subjects. The room was very spacious, clean, adequately warm and fully equipped. The bed, comforter, Airflow was all comfortable. The place is right next to A train which was very convenient in all weather. I felt like at home. Thanks!
Muchas gracias N&G!!
I had a great time in N&G apartment. Nice apt and the bedroom's guest is very cozy with a fantastic bed. They are very friendly people (and Moss very funny cat!). Unfortunately I wasn't able to talk to them for a long time due of the city got me and the most of time I was in the downtown or near there. (There is so many things to see...)The subway is so close to the apt that in a half an hour you can access downtonwn (take the express subway) and get back in the same time. Shortly, the experience was unforgetable, Thanks a lot N&G!!
I'm married to a dude named Geoff. He lives with me. Which is good for our marriage.
We both like things in pop-culture.
We also like travelling. In fact, he proposed while we were in New Zealand, after a day spent in Hobbiton. Because Hobbiton is a real place, y'all.
While we are our own people, we do share common interests like board games, video games, movies, tv, books, and just about anything related to media. We can be quiet and homebodies, but we can also roll with the pub crawl crowd.
We met and fell in love while working at the same non-profit. So, we both love helping people and whatnot.
Um... this is awkward. I don't know what else to write.
