Jean and Elvira were wonderful hosts, on their lovely barge. They went out of their way to help us when we had a minor crisis on our hands and we really felt rejuvenated after staying with them. Wonderful breakfasts (lots of fresh fruit) and a great period style bedroom. Highly recommended.
We were in late (after ten) and the taxi driver left us at the wrong barge. Elmira came 100 metres to welcome us with a big hug and take us to the correct place. Jean and Elvira were extremely welcoming and helpful. Great conversationalists and Aussie style (dry) humour. Elvira even delivered us to the Avignon station when departing. Wonderful hosts.
Elvira and Jean are fabulous hosts. We were welcomed with a kangaroo flag and a kiss and a hug. They were also great in the lead up to the stay with communication and helped us use their free parking (about 2 meters from their house boat). We had never stayed on a house boat, so this was a special stay. The boat was clean and filled with art Deco themed ornaments and finishes. We had our own bathroom with a bath (to fully enjoy the bath, head to town to pick up a bath bomb from Lush). We loved hanging out on their boat deck, reading books, drinking local wine and of course the wonderful fresh fruit and hot croissants that Jean and Elvira serve for breakfast. Don't miss out on their extra large coffees served in cute mugs (more like bowls!). The location is fab as well. The boat is moored 5mins walk from Pont du Benezet and Palais du Pape and the old town. Again, Elvira and Jean were amazing hosts. It felt like we were staying with long lost relatives. I would definitely stay there again!
even before we arrived they were excellent at commication and helpfulness and when we did arrive they made us feel so at ease and welcome! they were very accomodating and just lovely, the two days we spent felt like we were home. the location is very beautiful and relaxing with an easy walk to the city center and sites. we wish we could have stayed longer :) everything was wonderful
We cannot say enough complimentary things about Elvira and Jean. We were welcomed with such warmth and given the grand tour of the barge. A great deal of good taste, love (and elbow grease too I believe) has gone in to making the barge what it is today. The cabins are gorgeous and the whole boat was spotless. This is truly a tightly run ship. Elvira whipped up her famous Moules with Nonna's Special (Secret) Sauce which was a real treat. For breakfast we were spoilt with fresh coffee, exotic fruits and warm croissants. Elvira and Jean were the perfect hosts and we hope to see them again in the future.
Thanks a lot for the wonderful time in the most charming boat in Avignon. We enjoyed French humour, a stunning room with a stylish bathroom attached to it and delicious breakfast. Highly recommended!
Elvira and Jean were fun people to have as hosts - very welcoming and pleasant, very helpful with directions. The accommodation was very comfortable and quiet in spite of being quite close to traffic. It was close to the centre of town (maybe 10 - 15 minute walk) although to take the shortest route required the navigation of a bit of a maze of streets)
