The Space

Beautiful house on a private lane just 8 minutes by car to the village of Woodstock, NY. A gorgeous 80 mile view across the Ashokan Reservoir catches your eye out the back. When it is warm, there is a 10' deep pond to swim in, a fire pit to roast marshmallows, a gas BBQ for your cookouts on the deck, and a well-equiped kitchen. It is really silent and peaceful there. Bordering thousands of acres of state land. No neighbors in sight on three sides.
There are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and one with both a king and a twin. Enjoy HD Cable, Playstation, highspeed wifi, and an iMac connected to a stereo for streaming music.

Woodstock is literally an 8 minute drive away, with a bunch of great restaurants and fun shops. You may just want to shop at the nearby gourmet supermarket and cook at home with your friends in the lofty living room/kitchen, with music playing and a fire going in the fireplace. It is pretty dreamy.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • House had a nice layout, good location and beautiful view. Tom was helpful and responsive in our limited communications. However, the rooms, bathroom, living room, etc were dingy and rather gross. We did a lot of cleaning just to feel comfortable, and we left early as it just (email hidden) to be from a cleanliness perspective. Most windows had cobwebs, most pots and pans were disgusting, etc. Anyway if you are comfortable with an old somewhat grimey house then this is fine, but we would not stay again.

  • The home boasts an incredible view off the back deck. That was definitely our favorite part -- having a glass of wine on the deck, listening to the sound of nature and watching the stars come out. Overall, it worked well for our purposes -- as a jumping off point to do some hiking/climbing in the area. The house could have been cleaner, however the linens, towels and kitchen counter were clean and those would seem to be the most important parts.

  • The house was perfect! The view is even better than you hope for. Our dog loved swimming in the pond on the property and the Ashokan reservoir is a wonderful, beautiful 6 minute dive, Woodstock is also close and easy to get to. The house was clean, nicely decorated, and equipped with all of the media and cooking items you would need. Tom was very nice and quick to reply to any questions. It is a perfect retreat from the city!

  • Overall, it was a great spot. Quiet and secluded but only maybe a 10 minute drive into Woodstock town, and the view was just as great as in the picture. It definitely feels more (email hidden)d-in home that the family is renting out short-term than a dedicated rental property, but hey that's kind of the point of airbnb. The house also seemed a little on the older side, but it was still clean, uncluttered, and comfortable. Tom was very responsive over email and there's a pin-code lock on the door so no need to coordinate meeting up with someone to get the key.

I only gave it 4 stars just because the house felt a little older and quite as well kept as I would have expected for the price. We also only stayed one night so the $75 cleaning fee was a significant part of the price, and seems expensive just to switch out the towels and sheets. If you were gonna bring a larger group and do more partying it would be more worth it.

  • The house was quaint and had a great view. Conveniently located very close to Woodstock too. However, it seems prior to our arrival the place had not been cleaned. The house was quite dusty and dirty. Otherwise, it was a good stay. Tom was very accommodating to our requested check-in/check-out times and quick to respond to messages.

  • We had a great night up at Tom's place. The place was not super clean, it's lived in. But for a casual getaway, it was very comfortable. Lot's of Phish records to enjoy + lovely fireplace and view.

  • Despite some disappointments upon arrival, we had a good time visiting Tom’s home in the scenic Catskills.
Pros: The house was nicely decorated and the view from the back patio was beautiful. We really enjoyed cozying up by the fireplace. Tom was friendly, and allowed us to bring our cat, which was much appreciated! He was also initially quick and helpful with correspondence and instructions.
The home was an easy 12-15 minute drive from Woodstock, where we enjoyed dinner at Yum Yum Noodles. We also enjoyed visiting nearby Rhinebeck and the waterfront area in Kingston.
Cons: We were disappointed to find that no one had cleaned since the last visitor was there. Dirty dishes were in the sink. The bathroom and kitchen trash cans were full. There was a damp towel draped over the toilet seat. One bed was unmade, and had sheets and blankets rolled up on top, as if someone had slept there and piled up their used bedding.
(Note: This was our first time using Airbnb, and therefore, we are not familiar with a “typical” Airbnb experience. Perhaps it is normal to find evidence of the last guest? I hope not.)

  • The place was nice and peaceful with a nice view. It was full of deep snow when we were there and that was really beautiful.

The only problem we had was the lack of communication with the host. I couldn't get a response or any info about the keys or the place before coming in to the house. We had to find the keys when we got there and that was a bit frustrating. Then the host contacted us on the day we were leaving and told us that he didn't see any of my calls or texts till then. Besides that, i think it (email hidden) to stay with your friends but make sure you reach the host first!

  • This was our second time at Tom's place. We loved it!

  • Tom's place has a great view of the surrounding hills and we really liked how remote it felt, while still being very conveniently located close to (email hidden) to get away from the city to relax by the fire for weekend. Tom was very helpful with recommendations of local restaurants and activities, and it was easy arranging to check into and out of the house. We would go back again, but remember to bring firewood and your own set of toiletries as the bathroom was bare.
