April Cottage B & B and Lapland Lodge BBQ, Harmans Cross (Corfe Castle). Open Mid-May - End October.
April Cottage is a traditional Cottage (1 Double en suite / 1 Twin with private bathroom) set in a large garden, ideally located midway between Corfe Castle and Swanage on the A 351 on the Isle of Purbeck. The Lapland Lodge is situated on a fantastic platform overlooking the garden and can be used for overnight stays (3 - 4 persons) or simply for an unforgettable BBQ (lodge prices on request only).
Your hosts Joanna and Peter Burri – Weaver have many years of experience in the Hospitality industry and have recently managed Boutique Hotels in exotic places like the Seychelles and Zanzibar. As soon as you enter their house you will experience the unique Anglo – Swiss hospitality. You will also find many memorabilia from the very interesting past of the Weaver family. The grand-parents were stationed in Sikkim before WWI and the grand-mother was one of the first European women to walk into Tibet having to cross the many mountains and Glaciers. Her son Peter Weaver was a Major in the 1st SAS and a War hero in WW2. Joanna was the first British women representing Great Britain in the Luge event at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. Both Joanna and Peter love Nature and, if time permitting, will gladly show you around or accompany you on one of the many beautiful walks.
Peter and Joanna made for wonderful hosts with April Cottage provided a lovely setting for a weekend away. The accommodation was inviting, the hosts are obviously not new to the hospitality game, proving inviting and informative but certainly not obtrusive. Highlight, though proved to be the breakfast that proved a perfect start for days spent journeying around the areas attractions.
Firmly recommend staying with April Cottage or their just completed Lapland Lodge.
We only stayed for one evening at Peters. It was easy to find, clean and cosy, with a spiral staircase up to the bedroom.
Peter kindly accommodated our last minute decision to bring our two small dogs which was really helpful and the cooked breakfast was to die for! Warmly and efficiently run, with interesting decor (lots of history!)
The only reason we gave this four stars not five, was the temporary problem with the wi-fi which was a little frustrating.
The surrounding area was great, with lots of traditional country pubs and close to fantastic beaches and Corfe Castle.
We loved our stay! Great hosts and a very cosy place!
We really enjoyed staying with Peter and Joey. We were two couples staying in their two rooms as we were going to a wedding in the local area. They have a lovely house near Corfe Castle village which is a beautiful village and stunning ruin. The breakfast that we had each morning was brilliant and very filling. We're already thinking about going back and would happily stay with Peter and Joey again.
Please view my other review for Peter's place as we book the two nights separately due to using Airbnb voucher! We'd happily stay again.
We stayed at April Cottage early September weekend and would remember this fantastic experience for a long time. This was our first time with Airbnb and we were very lucky to have chosen this place, not only for the wonderful house and yard, but for the loveliest family of Peter's. There was no problem at booking and finding the place later on, and though we arrived quite late, we were given a very warm welcome by Peter and his wife, and they joined us later for wine at the awesome Finnish style BBQ house in the yard under a 400 year old tree.
We rented out two of the rooms in the house, one with twin beds downstairs, one with king bed upstairs. Each has private bathroom. Tea, milk, water always available in the room. The whole house is amazing, with a lot of history and taste. The rooms are full with paintings, décor and small things that make your stay cozy. The host has been in hospitality business for many years and you can guess that right away - from small details to basic things a traveler would need.
Special word about the breakfast - plenty of cereals, yoghurts, jams, fruit, eggs, bacon, all fresh and tasty. Serving deserves 5*.
The hosts are extremely nice and hospitable, with a very interesting (if not outstanding) story behind. Get to learn it!
The place has a lot of sightseeing places around - and is located in a strategic position towards all of them.
Fireplace is now being arranged at the house, which will allow for less humidity and more warmth inside - last step towards ideal weekend getaway or long stay. We would definitely recommend this place for anyone visiting Dorset.
This is a great little place! Peter is a brilliant host, cooks a mean breakfast, has detailed local knowledge and can recommend lovely country walks and ace places to eat in the local area.
We spent the evening with the locals at the Castle Green pub in Corfe - wonderful sea food and great wine, thanks to Peter's insider knowledge.
Definitely make this your accommodation preference if you're visiting Swanage, Corfe or Harman's Cross!
We had a lovely time, walked over the Brenscombe Hill to Corfe Castle and did then take old-fashioned steam train to Swanage. We loved to have excellent breakfast served in the garden. We regret having to stay so short. Thank you Peter and Joanna. It was great time in Dorset!
Peter and Joey were wonderful hosts with a beautiful home. Breakfast had a good variety of cereals, fruis, yogurt, sautéed veggies, eggs, and a variety of meats. We had the double room with attached facilities at the top of the charming, winding stairs. Everything was immaculate with a luxurious quality to all the linens. I would definitely recommend April Cottage to anyone visiting the Purbeck area.
We had a wonderful experience at April Cottage and highly recommend it. Peter and Joey were fantastic hosts - very professional - providing a delicious hot and cold breakfast, fresh coffee and tips about the area. Peter recommended a spectacular cliff walk and lent us his map of the area. The room (upstairs with an en suite) is tucked away - probably a converted attic - with a lovely sky light to make it bright and airy. The bathroom was a good size and the water pressure and temperature were excellent. The room was immaculately clean and cosy and had lovely touches like fresh flowers from the garden. Ask about the wooden cabin Peter is adding as new accommodation to the property soon.
