One of the more desirable neighborhoods in Oakland, the Grand Lake area has much to offer. Great restaurants include the open fire cooking by a Chez Panisse alumni at "Camino," tapas at "Penrose" and "Boot and Shoe" (the owner also got his start at Chez Panisse), classic style bistro with a great mixologist--"Sidebar", and a great cornmeal crust pizza at "Star," to name a few.
For a great walk or run, you'll find our beautiful Lake Merritt about half a mile south.
To our place: From the airports (OAK and SF) one can catch Bart to 19th Street Oakland Station. We are a 30 minute walk up Grand Ave or 10 minutes via the #12 AC Transit bus to Mandana Blvd. (board on Broadway across the Paramount Theater).
To SF: AC Transit's NL and NX to SF is 2 blocks away. Alternatively, one can catch the #12 bus downtown 19th Street Bart, where the train ride is 15 minutes to the San Francisco financial district.
The cottage is self contained, come and go as you please. We do ask that you are respectful of our nearby neighbors. Quiet hours after 8 p.m.
If not too much of an inconvenience, we ask you remove your shoes inside the guest house.
No smoking in the unit, but smoking is allowed on the adjacent Patio.
No animals allowed.
If you have a car, street parking only.
No cooking allowed, so leave those hot plates at home. :-)
This was my first experience with Air BnB. My stay at Dipak's was very comfortable. This urban oasis was clean and met all of our needs. The bathroom did have an odd smell and I would recommend changing out the shower curtains.
Dipak was very welcoming upon arrival and had a variety of recommendations for eats around the neighborhood. There are a variety of restaurants and shops within walking distance, and also a beautiful lake nearby. It is also close to other areas in Oakland, such as Berkeley and Temescal.
I would definitely recommend staying at Dipak's.
Dipak thank you for this stay, it is a person of good advice and knows the allentours good advice for us!
Beautiful place for people who want to visit san francisco and oakland !
Attention parking is very complicated!
We stayed 3 night mainly to visit san francisco, it is a really nice place, clean and comfortable. we had everything we need for our stay. Our host was really nice.
Spending two nights at the Urban Oasis was our first Airbnb experience, and it did not disappoint! The space was clean and comfortable, and Dipak was an excellent host. His breakfast recommendation (Lynn & Lu's) was delicious! We enjoyed being able to walk to restaurants and shops, and Lake Merritt is very close too.
Even though we were right in the heart of the City, it's very quiet and private. We highly recommend the Urban Oasis. You'll enjoy yourself! We would definitely stay there again. Thank you, Dipak!
This location was perfect!Close to so much of what Oakland has to offer...and Dipak gave accurate listings of the local independent businesses and soul spots of the area. I love that the cottage was sorrounded by an urban garden with chickens and the other family that lived in the main house were also friendly and knowledgable Dipak was helpful and non- intrusive and the cottage was kept clean and eco- friendly. I was in the heart of everything I came to Oakland to (website hidden) coincidence my very food friend and extremely talented artist Josh Mays was working on a unique mural 1/2 a block away. Magic is all around Oakland and a small garden of such magic is right here at Dipaks Lil oasis!
Dipak's guesthouse is a great place to stay in Oakland. The place is very clean and very nice decorated, everything we needed for our stay. Dipak is an incredible host always there when needed. Burt and Matt, the other neighbors are great people and welcoming as well. Felt like home with great friends.
We would love to stay at Dipak's place (craving for walks on Lake Merrit, the star's pizza and Michel's lamb hamburger) again.
Oakland is THE city, Dipak's place is the best spot for that.
The place was a lovely stay. The bed was comfortable, the shower was lovely, and there were wonderful little shops and bars all around neighborhood.
About the Host, Dipak
I live in the beautiful city of Oakland, CA. I enjoy the diversity, creativity and the temperate climate this city. We have a vibrant foodie scene and I love to explore the new food spots popping up. In addition, I love listening to live music, especially jazz.
I enjoy running around our beautiful Lake Merritt and biking the hills of Oakland and Berkeley-- some of the best bike rides in the country, I'm told!
