Interaction with Guests
I do holiday rentals rather than hosting and interacting with guests is through an excellent and multilingual caretaker.
Unique and sought after location in conservation area just 100 m from the large, sandy and child friendly beach. Dead end street with no through traffic. Perfect for a family holiday in high season, the rest of the year ideal for those seeking peace and quiet, for nature lovers, for walkers/hikers, birdwatchers, windsurfers. Many marked hiking trails and plenty of biking paths.
The nearby and lovely medieval circular village of Gruissan is a delight and offers all services, restaurants and a lively market three times a week. Gruissan is one of the few places on the Languedoc coast that is lively all year and can be recommended also out of season.
Narbonne is our nearest town with history back to Roman times and has a superb covered market open every morning.
Small grocer/wine shop/restaurant/bread outlet/take away at walking distance from April till October.
A car is recommended. Very good train connections in every direction from Narbonne.
Easily accessible from airports like Béziers, Carcassonne, Perpignan, Montpellier, Toulouse. Direct high speed trains to Narbonne from Paris Gare de Lyon and from CDG airport. Convenient for a combination with cities like Paris, Bordeaux, Montpellier, Barcelona. Only one hour from the Spanish border and interesting day trips to north Costa Brava are very much possible.
Other Things to Note
Bedlinen/towels at extra cost from mid May till mid September at € 20 per person.
Communal pool in season (mid June till mid September)
Polite smokers welcome provided they smoke outside. Please read the manual on how to leave the house on the day of departure. Although there is a cleaning fee, the house must be left tidy and ready for the wet cleaning. Bicycles must be left as found.
The cottage truly is superb!! It is a few meters from the endless beach and offers everything you need during your stay. We were two and a little boy, there would be room for one more person still. It is easily accesible by car and has its own charming garden. Beds are comfortable, there is even a babybed and the grocery shopping possibilities within walking or cycling distance.
We didn't meet many neighbors, they all were kind of by themselves. This was ok with us because we wanted to relax and be by ourselves aswell.
About midday the beach started to fill up with lots of people, it is still nice though. The only thin we didn't know beforehand was that this area is very windy! Some days it wasn't possible to stay close to the sea. Nevertheless, there are various interesting things to visit in the surroundings (Carcassonne, l'oeuil doux, etc.). If you plan to spend just beach vacations, I recommend a less windy region such as Camargue.
The owner and the house keeper provides you with all necessary information in advance by mail and there is also a folder full of helpful information. I very much appreciated the quick answers to all my questions, it kind of makes you feel at home and been taken care of.
Thanks to Marit and Anita, we definitely enjoyed our stay in Gruissan :) And we will recommend this cottage!!
The wind is not unique to this area. It can be windy throughout the whole region and into the next including Camargue and in the opposite direction into Spain. Sometimes one has a bit of luck and there is not so much wind; at other times there can be more days with strong winds. On windy days there is the possibility to sunbathe in the garden and make use of the communal pool. Or simply take a break from the beach go for a sightseeing :)

About the Host, Marit Anne
Semi-retired, living in the south of France in winter and north Norway in summer. The best of both worlds ! :)
I love to travel and I am a big fan of home exchange and have made more than 30 successful exchanges so far.
I like the great outdoors, gardening, walking/hiking, cycling, something I now can do year round when spending the winters in France.
I am also fortunate to have a second home in Norway that I can share with other travellers.
Our favourite Cathar Castle close to the nice village of Cucugnan and locted in the scenic Corbières area.
Another impressive Cathar Castle.
The largest medieval castle in Europe.
The most picturesque coastal town in the region.
