San Miguel de Allende offers visitors incredible colonial beauty, charming cobblestone streets, nearby hot springs, fabulous restaurants and art galleries; as well as a vibrant and lively community of artists, musicians and writers and a delightful mix of Mexican folk traditions, fiestas and religious celebrations. It is a place that should not be missed in this lifetime!
This lovely flower-filled courtyard home is located in Centro, just a short walk to the Jardin (main square), to the Instituto Allende, as well as many great restaurants, and several of the best language schools. This is a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom house which sleeps 2 to 3 people. There a king size bed and bath in the master bedroom- with a terrace right outside; and a separate single bed and bath downstairs which looks out into the courtyard. For your comfort, Casa Ramona has only the softest and finest quality sheets and towels.
There are several wonderful outdoor sitting areas filled with flowers and bougainvillea, and a lovely fountain in the courtyard, all to enjoy the beautiful San Miguel weather in. There is a rooftop terrace with panoramic views of San Miguel, the Parroquia, and the mountains beyond. On the roof along with a terrace with views of San Miguel, is a studio that has a high-speed Internet connection.
In addition to the high-speed Internet access & wifi, we have extended cable television -- with many English language news, sports and movie channels. A 5- CD stereo system. A telephone and answering machine is also available for your use. There is also a combination living area and dining room, with a fully-equipped kitchen. Plus, a maid comes 2 days a week to Casa Ramona to help keep the house clean during your visit.
We thoroughly enjoyed this casa while staying in San Miguel. The photos are accurate but don’t capture the wonderful light and shade that changes throughout the day on the walls and patio spaces. An artist owns this place-- artful but uncluttered. A real retreat. The kitchen has plentiful cookware and even some food staples on hand.
The only drawback for us was the walking distance to the town’s bustling sections. That said, my husband and I both have some leg issues. It took us a good 20 minutes to walk to the Jardin and a good 15 minutes to the Instituto surrounds. On our daily adventures we learned to walk one way and taxi back. (Taxis always show up within a couple minutes of looking for one and cost about 35 pesos plus tip.)
The owner gives good information about the town (some of it a bit out of date) and her local staff people are responsive to any questions.
It’s obvious that the owner pays attention to her property and its amenities.
So glad you enjoyed Casa Ramona Gayle. I will definitely look over all the town info (of which there is a lot) and update anything that has changed. Of course walking distance is relative... I walk to centro in 10 minute, but I know Jack had a fall while there. I hope he recovers quickly. You were a pleasure to host. Best, Romney
We had a wonderful stay at Casa Ramona. The house was as described, the kitchen well equipped, the beds comfortable, and the location was a very doable 15 minute walk from the central part of town. It was easy to get a taxi near the house and they were inexpensive.
The owner, Romney, was very responsive and a pleasure to work with.
San Miguel is a delightful place. The people are warm and friendly, the food is great, and we always felt very safe, even when walking home late at night.
We would definitely recommend Casa Ramona to anyone and San Miguel is not to be missed!
The casita was lovely and as described. We got a little lost - there are two streets named Pila Seca and the one we needed was Prolongacion Pila Seca - but Romney and the real estate agent, Paloma, were quick to respond with help on getting us back on track. We were greeted by Rosa, the very nice maid and given a brief tour. The immediate neighborhood was very quiet, but the main squares and activity were about a 10-15 minute walk. San Miguel is as beautiful as the pictures show. The artisan crafts and delicious food are as advertised. Rolling luggage and any shoes with heels are not necessary in this town!
Romney was an honest and kind host, the house was a delight and our stay was everything that we hoped for. The only change that i would suggest is to work with the lock on the front gate so that entrance is easier. We spent long minutes in the dark trying to get the lock to respond...it always did...but they were anxious minutes. Other than that, the place was lovely and we enjoyed our stay......thank you Romney!!!!
Everything was perfect. The house is clean, comfortable and has all the necessary for a very good stay. The housekeeper that received us was very kind. The only detail was that first floor bathroom didn't have hot water.
Colin and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to San Miguel de Allende and our stay at Romney's charming home. Although we didn't cook much on this particular trip, the kitchen was well equipped and the house was comfortable. The bed was very comfortable. We loved the courtyard and fountain and spent time sitting on the upstairs patio reading and enjoying a glass of wine before heading out for the evening. We found the sounds of the neighborhood charming and inviting and it made us feel part of the surroundings. We had no need to set an alarm as the daily morning student parade (which we found funny) passed by as they drummed and played out of tune horns. (they must have been practicing for Mexican Independence Day). The Wi-fi was good. Romney was very timely in her responses to us, and the house was maintained by Rosa while we were out of the house.
One thing to mention, which is almost to be expected in a house of that age, was the water pressure in the upstairs shower was very weak and we used the downstairs bathroom for showering. Also the hot water was not constant while showering.
Overall, we were very pleased with the house, the location, and proximity to everything we wanted to see and do.
Main Pros: (1) spacious with 3 light-filled and flower-filled floors; (2) plenty of potable water, books, music, linens, towels, and well-equipped kitchen and bathroom; (3) lovely outdoor spaces on all three levels: 1st floor courtyard; 2nd floor veranda; and rooftop terrace; (4) walking distance to center.
Main Cons: (1) quite noisy at times—bedroom is on a cobblestone street that leads to a a major highway, so we heard people, cars and motorcycles at all times of the day and night; (2) staff comes on a schedule and feels a bit invasive to privacy (recommend pre-arranging with host if and when staff comes by); (3) host should buy new drain board for dishes, as well as new bedroom and bathroom mats (ours were frayed and stained, which was rather unpleasant).
I am a graphic designer, living in the SF Bay Area with my partner of 22 years, and our dog Bella. We live in a redwood forest, and have a blessed life. We love to travel, and have been to many places in the world, but still have more to see and experience. We travel in a variety of styles... and are thrilled to have found airbnb! We have a 2nd home in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
