Interaction with Guests
We endeavour to offer you the best of hidden Boracay. Whilst we furnish all the mod-cons necessary to make your stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible, we feel the lost-in-paradise experience can only be enhanced by giving you maximum independence and autonomy. Although they are there to assist you in any way they can, our friendly housekeeping staff have limited hours (9am-5pm) and do not perform room service, concierge services, nor front desk functions.
The bungalow is situated in a secluded residential enclave called Pulang Lupa. It offers the best of Boracay with the beautiful Diniwid Beach only a five minute walk away. All of the action on White Beach is within easy reach--a 10 minute tricycle (Boracay version of taxi/bus) ride, or an easy 20 minute stroll along the beach.
The public transportation on the island are called "tricycles" and very convenient and easy to find.
Other Things to Note
1. Airport transfers are not provided by the villa. Buses and vans operate between Kalibo Airport and Caticlan Jetty Port. Tricycles operate from Caticlan Airport to the jetty port. Should you require a private van from either airport, you may rent one by contacting: (website hidden)
2. Baby cribs are not provided.
3. Please note that check-in is 2:00pm and check-out is 11:00am. Early check-ins and late check-outs are subject to approval of the owner/host.
4. The bungalow is equipped with a safe deposit box for guest valuables. Place all valuables including computers, cell phones, jewelry, cash, etc. in the safe deposit box and lock all doors before leaving the bungalow. The host does not take responsibility for lost or stolen items.
5. The bungalow was designed to be environmentally friendly with many traditional materials and concepts to maximize passive cooling. The ceiling and roof are all a special type of grass and bamboo which do not trap heat. The layout of the bungalow maximizes the effects of cooling sea breezes which flow easily throughout the bungalow. As such, there is no air conditioner in the bungalow.
6. Please note that no refund will be granted after check-in for days not stayed. For example, if a guest reserves the bungalow for the period of June 5-12, but decides to leave on June 10 instead, no refund will be given for the nights not stayed.
•Boracay occasionally experiences unannounced power failures. We prefer not to install an electric generator to reduce air and sound pollution. Muntinglupa Bungalow is equipped with emergency lights. Should you light candles and oil lamps, be extra careful because your residence incorporates grass and bamboo in the roof. If you are out at night, carry a flashlight as there is little lighting on the beach and roads.
•Environmental protection is everyone’s concern. Help us protect the island by segregating trash into four containers—plastics, tins, glass, biodegradables. The staff will collect your garbage daily (except Sundays). Please do not leave organic waste outside, so as not to attract animals.
•The bungalow is equipped with a safe deposit box for your convenience. However, the staff and owner of the villa do not take any responsibility for lost personal items.
•Any loss or damage to the property shall be charged to the damage deposit. Please refrain from removing any household items from the premises, including bath towels. Please do not take them to the beach.
•The owner shall not be held liable for any accidents, injuries, or death incurred during a guest’s stay.
•We offer free laundry service exclusively for the bed linen and face, hand, and bath towels. Please hang your personal laundry to dry in the enclosure at the back of the villa. There is a laundromat a few meters away from the entrance at street level.
•No more than two persons may reside at the villa at any one time.
•We strive to respect everyone’s peace and privacy in Pulang Lupa compound. Please help us to keep the compound quiet.
The bungalow is a really nice and cozy. It has a fan and a kitchen area for you. The bathroom function well and they provided you with towels. However, you have to bring your own toiletries. And remember to contact Edgar when you arrive so her staff Cristian can help with your luggage. It's a good exercise for us to walk up 50+ stairs to arrive the bungalow. The place would be better if there are less insects ( we saw many ants , a frog during our stay). Bring mosquito repellent too if you stay here. Overall it was ok .
The bungalow was easy to find since the instructions to give to the tricycle driver were clear.
We were fortunately greeted by the staff who helped us with our luggage to climb the more than 100 steps to the last of the 6 bungalows of the compound. Photos give a very good idea of this awesome design both traditional and very chic, with minimal (one armchair, no sofa) but tasteful old furniture.
On a hill but no view though. Next bungalow is about 10 yards away. Garden is shared with others. A mix of mainly wild vegetation and some planted shrubs or banana trees. A small open grass space with a big vegetable garbage bin in lieu of decorative statue?
Inside the sliding panels make airy with no need for air con. They don't really slide anymore, and one of them felt on the bed during a windy night, no harm since one of the four post of the bed retained it. Kitchen is minimal: one gaz heater so you must first heat the water and then cook your eggs in the morning. No oven of any kind. No corkscrew but the staff provided one as soon as we asked for. No dishcloth.
The bathroom has a nice open air design Bali-like. The water heater did work 30 seconds before setting off for 15 mns, even used at minimum. Didn't work at all the 3 last days and wasn't repaired though we asked for it. No hair dryer makes it hard to wash one's hair in cold water. Only one average size thin towel per person. No beach towel. We had to spend 2 hours to find a place to buy them: every hotel usually furnish them. The Diwined beach, very nice and tranquil, is about 10 mns away. Anytime you go somewhere you have these 100 steps to climb or descend, so dont'forget anything! Though away from it all (but close to neighbours) you still have this irritating boum boum music (all night of every day) of this same house in the street down the hill, facing the entrance of the compound. Noise climbs easily. You also have, more rarely, the music of some other neighbor up the hill. The noise of this music can be a little hidden by the one of the very noisy fan that aires the place.
Wifi does work, but so slow!
I did like the design of the place.
But all in all I would next time choose a (cheaper!) bungalow direct on the beach, with less mean amenities like real towels, hair dryer, hot water. I don't mind for the lack of aircon or the ridiculously small TV that I don't use anyway.
The bungalow is really quite charming and the garden around is lovely. I might state the obvious here, but no A/C is a challenge, especially in a place where the sun rises at 5am. The place would be really bright and very hot rather early. Obviously again, a place open like that one is a magnet for bugs, which did not bother me so much, but might be a problem for others. The bed was too small for me (I am 190cm tall). The bathroom is great and with a lot of natural light.
Location is great and quiet, with Diniwid beach close by, which is an awesome place for a drink by the sunset.
Edgar was a great host, and the villa was in a tranquil and beautiful setting, with many plants and flowers. Edgar had someone waiting for us at the compound on arrival (despite our flight being 1.5 hours late), who carried our bags to the villa. Edgar also arranged a 5am tricycle pick up for us on our return. The villa is in a great setting, only a few minutes walk to the beach, and in a quiet and pretty compound. It was cleaned every day, and fresh towels left. Diniwid Beach is a nicer area to stay than White Beach - it is more peaceful, less crowded and the water is beautiful. It also has some great places to eat in the evening.
