Grünerløkka is the place to be.
Through Oslo, from north to south, runs the river Akerselva. Along the river there are parklands and walking trails, but also remains of Oslo’s industrial history.
On the east side of the river, in the area of Grünerløkka you will discover numerous of hip restaurants, crowded bars, little cafés and shops with only 5-10 minutes walking distance from the apartment. Grunerløkka has a youthful embossing with young people and a chill attitude, art, culture, music and other activities.
Grünerløkka is also a popular shopping district, with original design shops and many vintage and second-hand stores.
When the sun casts its shine over the various parks, they are filled with youths drinking, making barbecues, playing music or just enjoying life. Birkelunden, Sofienbergparken, Olav Ryes plass, Grünerhagen or by the river Akerselva are some nice places to sit down and enjoy life or meet locals.
There is a Minimarket just a cross the street, open from 8 o’clock until 12 pm, and a bigger Supermarket is just a 3 min walk away.
The trams that departure frequently, takes you from Oslo Central Station directly to the apartment in only 11min + 4 min walk and you are there. Bus nr 21 to Aker Brygge stops just around the corner (90 meters) and the tram stop (nr 11, 12 and 13) is as mentioned a 4 minute walk away. The tram takes you back to Oslo Centre in 11 min and also to all main sightseeing spots such as the Opera, the Royal Castle, Oslo Centre, Frogner Park and Munch Museeum etc.
In Grünerløkka you can walk everwhere and discover alot within only 5-20min Walking distance.
Other Things to Note
Please note that the stairs to the loft is quite steep and the height of the ceiling at the loft is a bit low.
I want you to feel like you are in a hotel room. But please:
- Leave your shoes in the hall.
- No smoking inside.
- Cleaning is included, but please leave the place in good condition.
Our host was very good. Magnus answered via e-mail our requests for information very promptly. Upon arrival in the neighborhood, we had some difficulty with the directions and the description of the apartment color. A street address would have helped. The apartment was very clean and well equipped. We had trouble finding the linen for the ground floor folding bed. We found the linen in the lower drawer of the chest of drawers in the loft. It was fun to have the option to play the guitar.
we only stayed one night at magnus's place but had a great time. The area is cool - lots of young about and we had a really good meal at a place Magnus had recommended. The apartment was cute and as described, with personal tips from Magnus as to how to best enjoy the apartment and its locale. We never met Magnus but felt that we benefitted from his knowledge of the city from all the information he gave. thanks Magnus!!
Magnus is the best kind of landlord you could ask for. Super responsive, always there to help us sort things out, and always seem so bright. The place is clean and stylish, with just everything we need. Location is quite convenient as well, took about 10 minute by bus from train station (stops right in front the station) and within 15min walk you are there at a very soho-like area with interesting shops, restaurants and bars that will fit your international taste buds. I would definitely recommend friends to stay here.
This is a compact, clean and well equipped apartment with a handy location for your stay in Oslo. A couple of tramlines take you quickly to the city center and there is even a direct bus connection to Bygdoy museum area. Nearby there are many grocery stores. The communication with Magnus was exceptionally good.
Magnus was great in sending instructions and directions. The flat was as described. It is small but comfortable. I only stayed one night but had a great time. The only thing I would say in the direction was finding the apartment. I would describe the building color as more orange than yellow. Other than that, things were great!
We have stayed for 4 nights in June. It was perfect place for Oslo trip. Cozy and lovely room with everything we need, proximity to downtown and quiet neighborhood.
The neighborhood was perfect - you can walk downtown or very easily hop on a few different trams to get you there in minutes. There are many cafes, restaurants and parks in the area. The neighborhood felt alive, bustling and safe.
The apartment is very cute and cozy. For a couple it is perfect.
Magnus was a great host - she sent detailed instructions ahead of time about how to reach and access the apartment as well as a list of need-to-know info about using appliances in the apartment, how to access the backyard, etc.
The building was very quiet - this apartment is kind of set apart from the rest so we never heard any building noise. Street noise is minimal. The bed is very soft and the apartment is dark with the blinds closed despite the tall window. We slept very well (too well, we slept in most days!)
Overall we loved the apartment and would stay there again. It provided a good home-base for our visit to Oslo. Thanks Magnus!

About the Host, Magnus
I just love to travel but sometimes, like now, when I don’t have time to travel this will be a good opportunity to meet travelers coming to Oslo. After all, the most exciting thing about traveling is to meet people from different cultures and different countries. I love to be active and do many different sports. Climbing, golf, tennis and snowboarding is the once I have closets to my heart. I’m also a bit into music and manage a rock band where I also am the singer and guitarist. We play mostly covers, the song everybody knows and can sing along with.
I currently work within the IT-sector with collaboration such as CISCO videoconferencing, telephony and other collaboration solutions.
I am born (1982) and raised in Stockholm back in, Sweden and have been living in Oslo since 2010. I have bachelor in Global Business and been living abroad for studies in Austria, Graz and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Feel free to ask me anything, I quite open minded and if you want to have any recommendations about what to do or see in Oslo I’m glad to help.
I am always happy and outgoing and I invite everybody that like to make the most out of life, peolpe that likes to enjoy the moment.
My life motto is to be happy and treat everybody with great respect.
