Nice place... Andrews staff are lovely and very helpful!!
Good place, bungalows are in good condition, clean, all electronics works fine (Air con, fridge). Neighborhood is quiet, lots of restaurants in 3-7 minutes reach (by scooter/motorbike), some in 10-15 walking distance. Area (Canggu) is good for serfers, not perfect for beach leisure.
Andy and Merry were very nice hosts, helpful in getting info about area (where to go for fruits, or to eat, etc).
Motorbikes rental available, price was very competitive.
Wi-fi connection also available, but poor. However, that's a problem for all Bali, not just Andy's place.
Overall experience was very positive.
Actually quite disappointing.
To summarize: No WiFi, No bikes, No breakfast, no free water and NO windows !? Really overpriced. Unfortunately we already paid in advance.
Andrew is actually quite a nice guy when you have the chance to talk to him, but he only welcomed us on the third day.
The room we stayed in looks and feels outdated; and is not really that clean.. There are many spiderwebs; the 'american shower cabin' (uhum) does not close properly; the front door does not really close; and there are no windows !? So there is no natural daylight, or you have to open the door and wooden windows; but then a lot of heat comes in. The WiFi signal is so weak that it doesnt work on your phone.
We tried to take the bikes on three different occasions, twice they are used by somebody else and the other time they were broken. So much for your free bikes.
Also, it claims to be a Bed & Breakfast; but if you want breakfast you will have to pay for this (and not even a little). On our departure day we asked for an 'early' (7:30) breakfast; but this seemed impossible. In the end we got some toast and jam. We thought as an extra service, but apparently we also had to pay for this breakfast. You also have to pay for drinkable water.
Andrew told us beforehand this would be a great spot for beginner surfers; but this place is only suited for experienced surfers. There are much better beaches for beginners further down the coast ( I wish Andrew had told us before).
And the swimming pool is not really for swimming, more for dipping.. It is really small, and in the middle I actually touch both the walls when I am swimming through. See this as a big bucket of water.
I wish I could have discussed this with Andrew in person; but we only met him briefly after a few days. We were never asked if everything was allright. On the final day he actually gave us some good advice, but I wish he would check up on his guest much earlier. This might be a cultural difference; but for me this doesn't feal right.
Overall I do not recommend this room to anyone. There are much better places for less money. It more feels like 'their house', and on the side they have some people wondering around. They do not take care of you in any way.
When you search this 'bed and breakfast' on the internet you will see it has a few different names; maybe changed names after a few bad reviews?
Andy's Surf Villa is an absolutely great place to stay. Our only regret is that we just had one night. Could easily spend a full week here. The rooms are good - comfortable bed, good shower, ceiling fan AND AC which is a nice bonus.
Andy and Merry are really accommodating and offer you a nice piece of parasite a stone's throw from the beach.
Canggu is a great little town - hire a scooter from Andy - the roads a the safest we saw in Bali and it's the best way to get around. Can happily recommend this place and can't wait to go back!
Andrew and his wife were fantastic. During my transit from Kuta to Canggu, my driver was completely lost, no fault of Andrew - in fact, had I informed him sooner, he would have arranged for a driver that knew the proper route back to the bungalow. But he was able to get the driver on the right track with each successive call.
Both of them bent over backwards to be helpful during my stay, including an extra 'stock' of ice cold bintang to help me with my still present jetlag.
While I refused to learn how to drive a motor scooter for the first time while in Bali (they also rent scooters), I found that it was not a very far walk to get to Echo Beach, 10-15 minutes by foot. And the beach at the end of the road is just a couple of minutes walk, so food, drink, beaches, waves and entertainment are all just minutes away, even if you just walk. All this, and none of the road noise and loud crowds you'd experience if you're next to Echo Beach.
The property is well groomed and the room was quite comfortable.
End result - I would stay here again.
We had a great stay in Canggu. The room was immaculate and Andy's staff was so welcoming and sweet. The location itself is nice, in a quiet space but a short walk to Echo beach. The grounds are clearly well cared for and the breakfast was so good. The room has AC and a small fridge we seems to be a luxury at some of the other spots I've stayed in Bali. We went in July and the rice farmers were flying kites for the annual festival, so it made this part of the world even more magical. Andy himself is a great character and made us feel very welcome. He was able to also arrange an affordable driver to a pretty far part of the island. Thanks for hosting us!

Originally a lobster fisherman from West Australia, I decided to invest for my retirement here in Bali I am a small resort owner in Canggu Bali and have bought a villa in Seminyak to rent to visitors to Bali nos stay sometimes myself when I go out on the town.. I can help you with your visit to Bali with a wealth of local knowledge. I enjoy traveling around the Island myself and Bali has a large variety of things to do and see.
