I could stay very peacefully here in Salma's house.:) As other guests wrote, her house placed good location, neighborhood was fine, easy to go center and northern cities.
Not only during my staying her place but visiting southern towns, Salma helped me a lot! she gave me a lot of information for other cities and advice too. Actually she had many guests before, so she knows many things even if she ve not visited.
Also she has lovely family. :) her husband and two boys are also nice people! 3 kitties outside are lovely too!
I will stay her house next time for sure if I could go to Tunis again. ;)
Salma was a wonderful host, from before I even booked my flight to even after I left. The space was a private and comfortable space adjacent to the formal living room area, set apart from the other areas of the house with curtains. The listing is a fair representation of the actual space. She also has kitchen access and the bathroom is spacious and clean. In addition, she has WiFi in the home, which is convenient for making (website hidden) calls and doing research for train/flight times, etc. The surrounding neighborhood in Bardo is safe and nice, and the home is a 15-20 minute walk to the Metro station.
Salma was quite welcoming of me into her home. She picked me up from the airport and provided a chilled bottle of water and some light snacks upon my arrival. She gave me a great deal of advice for where to travel and even recommended a guide for a desert trip. As a solo female traveler, coming first to Salma's home was a perfect starting point for my trip to other places in Tunisia.
I've had a lovely and very comfortable time staying with Salma and her family. They live in a charming corner of Le Bardo that is a very walkable distance from the Metro station, which gets you downtown. Le Bardo itself is full of eateries, shops and banks, as well as a large grocery store. Salma has been extremely welcoming and helpful, explaining all kinds of things about life in Tunisia and answering questions about the Tunisian dialect. She's also given me some homemade Tunisian food, and her cooking is delicious! I feel lucky to have stayed here on my first trip to Tunisia.
Salma is a great host. She really wants to get to know her guests and made a huge effort to make me comfortable. She picked me up from the airport and made sure I could find my way around. The "place" isn't really a room just part of the house with a curtain so I was worried about noise and privacy at first but Salma and her family go out of their way to minimize it. Salma even moved me into the room after other guests left without charging any extra. Keep in mind this is not going to be like a hostel or hotel and you must respect the family and their home but you will get a small glimpse into a Tunisian home and family and you would not get that in a hotel. There is also only one bathroom for the whole family but I never found that to be a problem and everything is very very clean. It is great to have a kitchen and be able to cook if you are visiting a long time. It's a little far from the city center but the metro is close and cheap. You can opt for a taxi too that costs less than three dollars to the center.
It was a wonderful time at Salmas house and her friendly family. The room was very nice and she made a very good breakfast every day with fresh juice.
The house is near to the metro station, so it is a good place for visiting all the interesting things in Tunis.
Salma gave me a lot of tips and had always a helpful answer of my questions.
I am sure that I will stay there again!
Thank you very much, Salma :-)
I thoroughly recommend a stay in Salma's house. The bed is very comfortable, and the curtained room private and nicely furnished.. Salma and her husband were extremely helpful, and her two boys are lovely too. The Bardo Museum is a very short walk away, and I enjoyed a sandwich and a meal at the place opposite recommended by Salma. First time in Tunis is a bit daunting, but Salma provided
lots of hints and assistance. There were 2 French girls there also, and Salma took us all to the Medina, via the metro, which was a welcome gesture. Everything is easier once you have done it with a local. Salma provided a lovely meal the first night and coffee and varied breads for breakfast, and also gave me a taste of various Tunisian dishes. All much appreciated.I enjoyed my stay and I learned a lot.
