The Space

This casually elegant Palm Beach and Tommy Bahama inspired 2 Bedroom/2.5 Bath waterfront two-story townhome is situated in the heart of Ponte Vedra Beach in a gated community of Sawgrass Country Club overlooking a bay with golf course views and breathtaking sunsets. Surrounded by water- the ocean to the East, Little Bay Harbor to the West, the community pool at the end of the street, and adjacent to the Guana River State Park Nature Preserve which runs North/South, this is TRULY PARADISE!

The Villa resembles a houseboat, as the entire back wall of the living room is glass, and the rear deck actually cantilevers out over the water. You will see over a dozen turtles, and our resident gator, "Wally" swimming below the deck, as well as exotic water birds along the shoreline. This is definitely a "kick your shoes off and put your feet up" sort of dig, and you will feel immediately relaxed. I'm fully engaged with work and hobbies, so even though this is advertised as a "Private Room", you will enjoy most of the entire villa and common areas and have the place to yourself most of the time. I'm attentive, but not intrusive, and will be delighted to show you around the area.

IS THERE A MUSICIAN IN YOU? I have a Yamaha electronic keyboard and an acoustic guitar for your enjoyment. I'm always amazed at the musical talent of my Airbnb guests, and the number of people who enjoy playing!

CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST SERVED DAILY with hot brewed coffee, gourmet teas, juices, fresh fruit, English muffins, jams & jellies. For a heartier appetite, enjoy the Beach Diner or a fresh pastry from the Starbuck's just across the street. I sometimes walk or ride my bike there. I love to bake, so there's a good chance for fresh homemade banana or zucchinni bread, coconut pound cake, muffins, oatmeal cookies, lemon bars or fruit cobbler!

You are welcome to borrow my beach chairs, umbrella, beach towels, and cooler and spend a relaxing day at the beach. Ponte Vedra Beach offers a pristine, natural setting, and you will find lots of beautiful shells, bone, sea glass and plentiful sharks teeth. Jax Beach and the Jax Beach Pier are a few miles to the North, and Vilano Beach and St. Augustine Beach to the South.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS, ENTERTAINMENT AND SHOPPING: Enjoy great shopping in Sawgrass Village or along A1A - boutiques, consignment stores, antique stores, and every restaurant and cuisine you can imagine within a 5 mile radius of the condo. Serious shoppers can visit the fabulous regional mall at St. Johns Town Center or the St. Augustine Premium Outlets - both just 25 minutes away. Many of the restaurants and local eateries are oceanfront, waterfront or Intercoastal which adds to the ambiance. LIVE MUSIC AND DANCING at some great local hotspots in Jax Beach are within a short drive of the Villa! And of course, there is a McDonald's, Starbuck's, Beach Diner, Pacific Fusion, Bogey's Grille, Pusser's Caribbean Grille, AquaGrill, Restaurant Medure, and Ruth's Chris Steakhouse right across the street from the complex, and LuLu's, Palm Valley Fish Camp, and more! • Cris' room in her home was very tastefully decorated and very inviting as was Cris. She is very accommodating and is eager to make one's stay enjoyable--from supplying bottled waters, bikes and beach things to a nice continental breakfast. Her home is close to the beach, pool, clubhouse, etc. as well as a easy drive to St. Augustine and other areas.

  • Cris was a fantastic host and her place was fabulous. She prepared a sumptuous continental breakfast every morning and even asked us to complete a breakfast sheet so we'd get exactly what we wanted. Best of all, we loved her company so much we cooked dinner together one evening and thoroughly enjoyed our time. We will definitely be back!

  • If you're looking for a vote of confidence from a picky traveler here it is: Cris is an AWESOME hostess, with a beautiful home, in a spectacular location! We're very grateful to have stayed with her.

Cris's hospitality began with an email telling me everything about the area, all I needed to know about attending The Players Championship, and asking me what kind of breakfast food and beverages I liked. Ashley and I were able to plan much of our trip in advance with these details. She was hyper-responsive to my pre-flight questions, checked in with me before departure, and booked a car to whisk me from the airport.

The detail-oriented generosity continued upon arrival. I was greeted by name with a welcome sign, my favorite cold beverage, and a map of the TPC Sawgrass course (she works for the Tour). She also had a vase of fresh flowers for Ashley! I talked golf with some of her friends, and then she showed me to my private suite.

My home away from home looked like Tommy Bahama just left. Tropical style abounds, and I felt right at home. The closets and dresser drawers were empty, so I had plenty of space to unpack quickly and logically. Everything I needed to know about where things were and how things worked (and a sane amount of house rules and requests), were helpfully displayed. Cris quickly checked to be sure I had all I needed, and then disappeared.

The next morning -- and every morning -- began with hot coffee, fresh fruit, and a basket of breads and muffins. (Cris is an early riser, but I never heard her setting up). I truly came and went as I pleased, and whenever I needed her local knowledge or wanted to chat, she would helpfully appear. It went on like that every day of our trip.

Cris' hospitality is just the beginning. Her place is perfectly located IN Sawgrass Country Club, 3 minutes to beach sunrises, 5 minutes to the TPC clubhouse, and 15 minutes to Jax Beach dining and entertainment. It is roomy yet homey, and ornate but not kitschy. She has a closet containing everything you’ll need for to a trip to the beach. The only negative of the whole trip was my fault - not taking her up on the offer of a World Golf Village tour. Next time, for sure.

Checkout was an unrushed breeze, and she's as good at logistics as she is friendly. She even emailed us a week after departure to let us know about new flights from our area to hers.

In summary, I strongly recommend staying with Cris when you're seeking an affordable, comfortable, conveniently-located Ponte Vedra getaway. You're not booking a room, you're staying with family. The kind of family you want to visit and leave you alone when you don't want to be bothered. Just don't make plans for the 2015 Players Championship because we hope to stay there for next year's tournament!

  • The most wonderful thing about staying with Cris is the love she pours upon you! She is so attentive, you will truly feel like you are staying with your sister or best friend. She thinks of everything to make your stay a cozy, comfortable one. She starts even before you arrive!

The day before my arrival, she e-mailed asking what I would prefer for breakfast. I happen to drink organic blended green drinks for breakfast so I told her she need not go out and gather these ingredients for me. She said she would like to nevertheless, so I had the benefit of enjoying my usual comforting green drink every morning for breakfast while I was there. Also, before I arrived, I e-mailed asking for her advice on finding a rental in the area. She responded by asking for the help of her sister who is in real estate and also other friends in the business. With all the help she provided me, I was able to find a place within a few days.

Also, Cris thinks of everything: You will have your own mini-fridge stocked with waters and juices. She placed all of my breakfast “green drink” ingredients there as well. Upstairs in your bathroom, there is another private mini fridge also stocked with waters and even a bottle of wine for you to enjoy. You will also find extra toiletries in your bathroom - in case you have forgotten anything.

You will be happy you chose to stay with Cris from the moment you arrive. Everything about her home is warm and welcoming. She has beautiful furniture, beautifully and tastefully arranged. Also, the view of the lake and golf course off her back deck is lovely and tranquil. (See the photos on her website)

You will find your room pleasing as well. Your private bathroom is stocked with an oversupply of soft towels. She even starches the sheets! All of Cris’s communication are timely and very clear. You won’t be left wondering when you will hear back from her. Also, her Airbnb ad is accurate. Her two story townhouse is located exactly as she states and it is very beautiful.

This was my first Airbnb stay and I am so delighted I took the plunge and tried it out. How lucky am I that Cris was my hostess. I enjoyed my wonderful stay with her and now I have an exceptional, caring, new friend!

    Response from Cris:

Denise is another “sister from another mother”, and we bonded immediately after she arrived. A mother with grown children on both coasts, beautiful spirit, transformational life coach and practicing attorney from California, she is brilliant, warm, intuitive and inspirational. Denise is relocating to the area, and liked Ponte Vedra Beach and my place enough to extend her stay two more nights. I and my network of realtor girlfriends jumped in to assist her in her search for a place, which we found just blocks from my villa, and steps from the beach. She is thrilled, and will be back in a couple of weeks to stay with me again until her unit is ready. Once again, the Airbnb experience is all about the people you meet, and I’ve met an amazing new and true friend for life in Denise, and thrilled that we are only a bike ride away from each other! I highly recommend your hosting Denise, as she is the perfect guest...immaculate, thoughtful and helpful, not to mention the inspiration you will derive from her knowledge as a spiritual psychologist, good health and nutrition. Thank you Denise for such an overwhelming response! Can't wait until you're here to stay in a couple of weeks! See you soon!

You are always welcome back and were the perfect houseguests!

  • We had tickets to a concert in Ponte Vedra as mutual birthday gifts. I asked our daughter, Amanda, for Ideas to make the weekend special enough to make it an anniversary celebration as well. Man oh man did she ever!!! She found Airbnb and Cris Harrison and made arrangements for our stay. Cris's enthusiasm for being the absolute perfect host is palpable. From the cheese, fruit and wine the first evening before the concert through the breakfasts, immaculate accommodations and bonding with a new friend, this was a memorable experience. We can't recommend Cris highly enough. ----------------- Joey and Karen

I'm excited to welcome you as my Guest, and introduce you to the local culture of this gorgeous, natural coastal area! While I've been hosting and entertaining for years, I discovered Airbnb last year, and fell in love with the concept. My long time friends who know me well, say that they feel as if they're in a "Bed & Breakfast" when they visit me...truly the ultimate compliment! (email hidden), I know it's all about the "hospitality". I am a very nurturing host, and with my passion for decorating, cooking, and socializing, I'm confident that you'll feel right at home in my tranquil space. My work and hobbies keep me engaged, so you will enjoy plenty of alone time. I am attentive, but not intrusive. I will welcome you upon arrival and will be delighted to show you around the area. I'(email hidden), born and raised in Atlanta, where I spent most of my life, before moving to Ponte Vedra Beach 5 years ago. I'm 59, single, and share my space with my cat Bud who thinks he is a dog. (He was raised with two 100 lb. Yellow Labradors.) While in Atlanta, I worked in the corporate world, and have owned my own interior design business for 30 years which enabled me to embrace my passion and build three custom homes, and renovate numerous others. Several of my designs were featured in Atlanta Homes magazine. Airbnb hosting is the perfect creative outlet for me. I traveled the U.S. from coast to coast, Canada and Puerto Rico with my husband before losing him to Cancer 10 years ago. I later traveled to the Bahamas, and Positano, Italy, on the Amalfi Coast, Naples and Rome. Italy is my favorite destination thus far, and Tuscany, Venice and Florence are next on my list, as are Paris, Belize, St. Maarten, Costa Rica, California wine country, The Adirondacks, and the Grand Canyon. There are many destinations I long to visit, and being an Airbnb host enables me to meet new people, learn about their cultures and share their travel experiences before embarking on my own. I will definitely utilize Airbnb for my lodging! I'm currently in marketing in the golf industry, to promote the game of golf, the preservation of golf history, and honoring golf's greatest contributors. My profession enables me to work closely with the PGA TOUR, and serve as liaison for professional golfers when visiting locally. I also coordinate marketing through the Florida Visitors and Conventions Bureau and the Florida Attractions Association to promote tourism, so I can provide you with plenty of brochures, maps and suggestions on fun things to do if sunning, swimming, shelling, and hunting for sharks teeth isn't quite enough! In my spare time, I play piano and guitar, and enjoy painting, drawing, sewing custom decorative items for the home, reupholstering, refinishing and repurposing old furniture. I love power tools and DIY projects! I enjoy gardening, gourmet cooking and entertaining, trying new wines, traveling and exploring new places, and meeting new people from different cultures. But most of all, cultivating new friendships, and expanding my cherished circle of friends. As your host, I'm extremely friendly and laid-back with a zany sense of humor. I've lived through a lot of stuff, so not much bothers me. I will treat you like family once you arrive, so don't be shocked if you run into me in my PJ's at the coffee pot in the morning or grabbing a late night snack...that's just how I roll. Feel free to be yourself and make yourself at home while you are here. Life is too short to worry about the small stuff. My goal is to make your stay the best, most comfortable, and most memorable Airbnb stay EVER! FAV MOVIE - "Under the Tuscan Sun". Diane Lane takes a spontaneous trip to Tuscany after a divorce, falls in love with a Tuscan villa, buys and renovates it. I could SO totally do that! A FAV BOOK is, "Unpacking your Bags" about detaching yourself from so many possessions, so you live a simpler, less stressful life and gain freedom to travel without excess baggage. (Hmnn....I'm working on that.) FAV SHOWS - I love Modern Family, and don't laugh, but "The Millionaire Matchmaker" on the Bravo Channel. It's hilarious, and ironically, I've picked up a few really great dating tips! My latest favorite is "Treehouse Masters" with Pete Nelson, Master Treehouse Builder. Amazing stuff! I've already designed mine and it is on my "Bucket List"! FAV MUSIC - Tommy Emmanuel, Mumford & Sons, The Carolina Chocolate Drops, Bruno Mars, Lady Antebellum, Adele, Eric Clapton, The Stones, Tom Petty, Miranda Lambert, Dire Straits, B-52's, Tim McGraw, Pink Floyd. FAV FOOD - Broccolli - great anti-oxidants! Coastal cuisine - anything with claws or fins! Crabcakes with a Buerre Blanc sauce and Corn Relish. My grandmother from Maryland who lived to be 93, made the best crabcakes ever! A FEW OF MY LIFE MOTTOS... *Live life as if each day were your last, dance as if no one were watching, keep your heart open to new friendships and love. *Perform at least one good deed every day. *The only difference between a good day and a bad day is your attitude. *Laughter is the best medicine, so over-medicate every chance you get! *It's okay to eat your dessert first! MY FAVORITE QUOTE... Frederico Fellini: "You have to live spherically - in many directions. Never lose your childish enthusiasm - and things will come your way."
