***ACCOMMODATIONS FOR 2 PEOPLE** - (However if you have other friends traveling with you, please check our additional beautiful listings).

ABOUT OUR PROPERTY:
All of our buildings are ecologically built and are often adorned with spiritual art and hand-crafted masterpieces from Pacific and Asian countries. We are surrounded by lush jungle, ponds, flower gardens, fruit trees, and a nearby waterfall (reached by a short downhill climb) which flows into natural pools for swimming from which you can gaze upon the breath-taking view of the valley.
Our land is a wonderful place to wander and explore: you can take a short walk passing the chickens, the homes of our bees, countless species of flowers and plants and stop by our temples, where you can rest, relax and meditate. For the adventurer, our ocean trail is a moderately challenging cliff trail and the hike takes about a half an hour to get down to the ocean. You will enjoy the wild beauty and the untouched nature of this piece of rural Maui, which is occasionally visited by dolphins and turtles, and in the wintertime, the whales can be spotted breaching from your bed. But be sure to prepare with a good pair of hiking shoes, some snacks and feel your feet, the trail can be very slippery after a heavy rain.

The Maui Eco Retreat was beyond perfect for us! We fully enjoyed the Ocean Trail (though steep, very rewarding), the waterfalls and the outside shower/toiletry. The property itself is worth the stay, but the hospitality, warmth and overall experience make it a definite repeat stay for us next time we're on the island. Our expectations were far surpassed. They offered morning Yoga sessions too, which unfortunately we didn't make enough time for, but we definitely will next time! You will find peace, nature and the sweet smell of the tropics in this wonderful place. We loved it!

The grounds were absolutely amazing, and the bed was super comfortable. Everything was freshly washed/cleaned, but there were lingering odors on towels and in the main house's downstairs bathroom that would require cleaning with bleach to completely eliminate. The check in time is required to be between 3 and 6 p.m. to avoid extra fees, which breaks up the day and sucks for people who are only in Maui for a short stay because they can't use the first day for a long outing. It adds an hour of travel time to go to the house and back out to anywhere that has restaurants, for example, and the check-in process itself took about half an hour. It would be nice to have the option of a self check-in that doesn't disturb the owners and allows people more flexibility in when they arrive. Overall, we loved staying there, and if the odor and check-in situation is remedied, we wouldn't think of staying anywhere else in the future.

Response from Kutira & Raphael:
We are happy to hear that you enjoyed staying with us and you thought so highly about our land as “such a magical and amazing place”. We are happy to know that you would definitely choose to stay with us again for your future travels. We are sorry that you did not have time to read our check-in information prior to your arrival, and this somehow affected your day. Unfortunately we are not able to provide “self check in”. We are, as you probably realized, a very special place located in an off-the-grid environment, that needs a personal welcome and introduction to the many hiking trails and how to navigate around on our property. We do let people know about our check-in times and options and we give people a wide time frame to plan their arrival from 3 to 6 pm. There is even a late check-in option until 10-11 pm, however this needs additional arrangement beforehand. Thank you for giving us the option to respond and remind all future traveler who read your comments and our response and make them aware what our rules are.

Magical private, waterfall and swimming hole! calm, serene hawaiian upcountry beauty shared with like minded special souls who care for the land and nourish the spirits of their guests. one can not describe the beauty or experience of swimming in the private spot in the rocks on the edge of the 150 waterfall. or the extreme relaxation practicing yoga in a sacred spot while listening to the nearby ocean waves. the main house is trimmed inside and out with bamboo-charmingly hawaiian! the full kitchen was easy to use. staff, volunteers and fellow guests-we loved talking to all of you! raphael brings the presence of the old soul who has learned the ways of living all to share his gift of music and joy along the way. thanks you- thank you!

Super off the grid and so many adventures at your fingertips. We were greeted by Raphael and given a map of the property. We did the ocean trail in the morning and watched the sunset over the waterfall. Make sure you stock up on groceries because you have a section in the community fridge and a big kitchen to cook in! There are private cottages too for those not wanting to use shared kitchens and bathrooms. Overall I would say it was a great deal for relaxation along the road to Hana.
