Chapel Hill Post and Beam Treehouse

The Space

NEW! NOW IT'S A KING-SIZED BED!

This large, post-and-beam room over our garage is light and airy with your own deck and private entrance. (Not handicapped accessible.) Ours is a small, quiet, wooded neighborhood 2.5 miles from the University of North Carolina and the UNC Medical Center, as well as the many wonderful restaurants and exquisite beauty of Chapel Hill and Durham (14 miles east). [Raleigh (30 mi.)/RTP (15 mi) and RDU Airport (20 mi.) are within easy driving distance as well.]

We are also just east of Southern Village, in south Chapel Hill. In fact, for hearty, adventurous souls, there is a lovely hike through the woods which will take you to our local organic Co-op grocery store, Weaver Street Market, the Weaver Street cafe, the Lumina movie theatre, many small shops and several great restaurants. We are walkable (for the hearty!) to all of those places and their amenities.

Our 720 square foot room holds a king bed (new!!) and a futon (which can sleep 2). We also have a roll-away cot for a 5th (small) person. There is a private bath with tub and shower. A dining area in one corner holds a "dorm" fridge and everything you need for kitchen basics (see photos). All towels and linens are of high quality 100% cotton; all are line-dried, so your head will sleep on a pillow of fresh air and sunshine. I stock the fridge and table with lovely treats. You'll have to come to find out exactly what! And . . . a couple of friends and I make candles when we find the time :) and I try to have them in the candelabra above the dining table for your (careful!) use and enjoyment. When my stock of hand-made beeswax tapers is sufficient, they are available for sale, enabling you to leave with a memento of your stay.

The room has its own separate heating/air conditioning unit, so you are able to meet your specific needs. (Also plenty of extra quilts and pillows.)
There is wireless internet available.
Easy parking just at the base of the stairway to your room.

Please make contact with me before attempting to book the room. When emailing inquiries please let me know how many people would be coming and a little about yourself or your trip.

** PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO BOOK THE APARTMENT BEFORE COMMUNICATING VIA THE AIRBNB SITE. I need to "get to know" you before booking: a little something about who you are and what you do; what brings you to the area. Thanks.

  • Our stay at the Post and Beam Treehouse was nothing short of magical! When we arrived, after a couple of flights and a snow storm back home we were greeted with the most inviting haven, complete with a table set with strawberries, pastries, cheeses, assorted teas, etc. Since we were there for a wedding/business trip we didn't get to spend nearly as much time in our treehouse as we wished. It really was the perfect respite to our busy, brief stay in Chapel Hill. Margaret was amazing, super friendly and helpful. Her warm and open nature were perfectly suited to the setting. We felt like we were staying at the home of a dear friend even though we'd never met her. I would stay at the treehouse again and again should I find myself in the Chapel Hill area.

  • We had a great stay in the treehouse! Margaret was attentive throughout our stay and the place was nice and well-kept. Staying here really made it feel like a vacation, more than a hotel would have. She provided gluten-free foods in our room as we requested (cheese, crackers, macaroons, and more) and took care of pretty much everything we needed. Would definitely stay again if we are in the area!

  • My boyfriend and I had a lovely stay in Chapel Hill at the Post and Beam Treehouse! I was visiting UNC and Duke's business schools and needed a cozy, convenient place to stay after long days exploring Chapel Hill and Durham. Margaret's place was just that - The location is unbeatable (a 5 minute drive to Franklin Street and the UNC campus, ~20 minutes to Durham). We had plenty of privacy and loved the peaceful setting backed in to the woods. This loft-style room is spacious and the bathroom was very pleasant. The small kitchen shelf holds the essentials for morning snacks and coffee before heading out for the day. Margaret left no detail unattended to - soft bedding, tealight candles and a supply of breakfast snacks from the local Weaver Street Market (pain au chocolate, cheeses, fruit, granola) were wonderful comforts. We wished we had a few extra days to spend!

  • My girlfriend and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the "Treehouse" while we were doing some traveling around North Carolina and it was everything you could possibly look for in a place to relax while spending some time in Chapel Hill. The room was absolutely beautiful and really felt like a home away from home. Also Margaret was so genuinely kind and welcoming that we were wishing we didn't have to leave. We can't wait to get back for another visit.

  • We LOVED staying at the "treehouse"! My son and daughter-in-law and granddaughter stayed there last year and recommended that we stay there on our visit to the Chapel Hill area. Between their high opinion of, and the glowing reviews of staying at the "treehouse", there was no question that we would stay there. I emailed with Margaret several times before our visit and felt comfortable with her even before we met. We felt so welcome. Then when we went upstairs to our new "home", we felt even more welcome with all the little treats that Margaret had left for us. We really appreciated how she went out of her way to find places that she could recommend that would be of interest to us. The “treehouse" is such a charming and peaceful place to be. We just felt like we had everything we needed and were able to enjoy the little things, like reading a book and having a cup of tea. We originally planned to be there for 4 nights and then fortunately for us, there was a snowstorm up where we live, so we "had to" stay another night :) I think I will stop here and you can find out for yourself what the "treehouse" will be and mean to you. :)

  • Margaret was a fantastic house to my wife, baby, and me on our visit to Chapel Hill. The treehouse is a wonderful space that quickly felt like home, and we enjoyed the breakfast and snacks. Thanks so much.

  • A wonderful cozy accommodation above the garage. Private and in a very rural setting, yet 3-5 minutes to downtown Chapel Hill.

Very comfortable large room. Every amenity needed. Superb breakfast treats of cheese, bread and pastries with coffee and tea.

Hope to return for another stay when we are in Chapel Hill again

  • This private and spacious loft feels more like a treehouse, nestled as it is high amongst trees, offering vistas of forest extending as far as the eye can see. The quiet surroundings offer rustic and romantic seclusion, despite being so close to the bustling downtown area, which offers a variety of specialty restaurants, shops, and the scenic UNC Chapel Hill campus.

Margaret is the consummate host. The room was stocked with fresh fruit, gourmet muffins, select cheese, wine, and bread, which we toasted in the convenient toaster oven. Fresh orange juice and milk were in the fridge. It was so nice to wake up, have a nice breakfast in the room, and simply lounge around, or use full tummies as convenient excuses to go back to bed. Words cannot convey Margaret's thoughtfulness, her kindness and warmth, her generosity and positivity. If you stay here, be prepared to experience how quiet moments become lasting memories.

  • The Treehouse is exactly as lovely as this pictures show it to be. On top of that, Margaret is a fantastic and attentive host. I felt welcomed, comfortable and relaxed during my stay. I would recommend this space for any visitors to the area.

  • What a beautiful place! We had a group of four in the treehouse and fit perfectly into this cozy space. The windows looked out onto lush forest and although the location is minutes from downtown, we found ourselves enjoying much time in the treehouse. Margaret was a gracious, kind and generous host. She went out of her way to make sure we had a nice trip. The bathroom was clean and comfortable, the beds were cozy and we had some tasty treats sitting on the adorable "kitchen" table when we arrived. I could not have asked for a better visit. Margaret is a fantastic host and delightful person!

About
My husband, Ed, and I have lived in Chapel Hill since 1985. Ed designed and built our lovely home in '91-'92, and we hope you will enjoy it as much as we have. Ed works at the UNC Medical Center as a pediatric orthopaedist, and I spend my work time these days writing. We have always loved to share our home with friends and family, and we love to travel, so finding out about airbnb and listing our available space seemed a logical extension of what we'd love to share. We hope you enjoy your time here, whether you stay with us, or in any of the other special places available to you in this "Southern Part Of Heaven."
