The Space

Enchanted by sparkling panoramic views of San Francisco and its two bridge beauties: The Bay Bridge and The Golden Gate Bridge?

Inspired by the option to dine in, enjoying dining views that only a select few restaurants offer?

Romanced by a crackling cozy fire as you nestle into bed and watch the city lights?

Me too. Welcome to my home, which I call the Gratitude House. When I made this my home, I promised I would share its good spirit and enchantment with others, and that’s where you come in. I offer this beautiful retreat to all who wish be transported and inspired. And if you would like to stay for more than one month, I will negotiate price.

Come experience a private sanctuary in the back half of this home. This suite is enormous. It has a living room area, a romantic bed area with fireplace overlooking the twinkling San Francisco city lights and the Eucalyptus grove below, and the dining room area, with full dining table. Panoramic view windows run along the back width of the home- 25 feet. The suite has hardwood floors throughout, a leather sofa and chair, an armoire, and a wood burning fireplace. You have WiFi and VCR to play movies. Most travelers will find that I am away during their visit. When I am not away, I am living in the front half of the house and you may not even know I am here. When I am home, I will share the bathroom and perhaps briefly visit the kitchen. The full kitchen is virtually yours to create in, cook in, bake in, and refrigerate goodies as you wish.

My home is atop a very tall hill on Bridgeview Drive, aptly named, which real estate agents have called “San Francisco’s best kept secret” because of the obvious bridge views, the warm sunbelt weather, easy, safe, free street parking, and the quick access to downtown San Francisco. Bridgeview Drive is a unique winding hilltop street with a cozy, neighborly, super-safe atmosphere in a neighborhood called Silver Terrace. I have lived here for 11 years and have received only love and assistance from my dear neighbors of this family neighborhood. If you don’t rent a car, the T Muni is 2 blocks away and runs directly downtown. There are also numerous bus routes that are easy to access within 2 blocks. Your 4-leggeds may be negotiable visitors.

So welcome to you, traveler, lover, artist, dreamer, visionary- welcome to the Gratitude House. Come see the world and yourself in a new way and leave inspired.

  • Gaylene was a wonderful hostess. We felt right at home. So much so that we made breakfast two mornings of our stay. She provided travel brochures and information to make our stay enjoyable. We also enjoy the wonderful bottle of wine waiting for us after our long travel from WI. She made our first Airbnb experience a positive one and we would definitely stay again with Gaylene if our travels take us the San Fran area again.

  • Gaylene was a wonderful and helpful host and we stayed in a cozy comfortable private suite. When we arrived she had already prepared the room for us and even brought us fruits, chocolate, and an extended kitchen to enjoy! Gaylene even introduced us to her two fluffy cats, Luna and Mr.Chops.

As previous reviews have said, her apartment had magnificent views of downtown San Francisco. Everything was just as we wanted it to be and we enjoyed our stay in San Francisco.

A bit of a note though: from the T Muni to the apartment, it's a bit of a climb especially for older people. Nevertheless, the short hike is very rewarding for the panoramic views once inside the apartment. The T Muni also takes around 30-45 minutes to Caltrain/Embarcadero/Powell Station so if you scheduled tours and stuff downtown, take the light rail at least an hour early.

There are bus stops nearer the apartment although we haven't tried it. I think one goes to Castro while another leads to the Golden Gate Park so public transportation around the other tourist sites should not be a problem.

  • Gaylene's place is just as wonderful as it's listed, if not even more inviting in person. Very clean, lots of personality, and communication with Gaylene and check-in was easy. Gaylene is a great host and I'd highly recommend anyone staying here (as long as they've done some research on getting from her location to where they need to go).

  • Gaylene was a very pleasant and nice host. She has a nice flat which is easy to find. We had a lot of space in her flat and an amazing view to San Francisco. We would come back anytime. Thank you!

  • The host Gaylene is wonderful, hospitable, and kind! She made me and my father feel like home. The place is awesome - the view is fantastic, close to public transportation (T muni and buses 24 and 44). Highly recommended!

  • The suit was just as advertised --- large, comfortable, quiet, private and with a world class view of San Francisco!
I was there on a 5 day business trip and it was such a pleasure to come home after a long day to a super comfortable bed, delicious
red wine ( provided by the hostess ) and contemplate the view.
Gaylene, the hostess, was both gracious and helpful.

Even though this location is just minutes away from the city I would recommend it to travelers who have there own means of

This will be my home away from home on my next visit to the bay area--- Thank you Gaylene

  • Thank you Gaylene! We had an excellent visit in your city and your home was a wonderful place to stay. The view from the room is stunning. It was so cool to lay on the bed relaxing with a book and have such an incredible view of the city and bay just past your feet. We loved it. The accommodations were clean, quiet and very comfortable. We had thought street parking might be an issue but the host was very helpful and we never had a problem parking. Normally we like a private bath but sharing this one worked well for us. Gaylene is a gracious host and her kitties are good company. When we come to SF again, we will stay here. It was one of the best BnBs we have visited. Loved the chocolate. :) Thank you!

  • Gaylene's Gratitude house was a magical place. I'll start here..It's even better in real life then the pictures show. Your bed is facing an entire wall of windows overlooking the bay and the city. Falling asleep and waking up to that is incredible. The room has a fire place, a large leather sofa and a kitchen table. The kitchen just outside your room is huge, and had everything we needed to make dinners for the week. She even had a shelf in the fridge for us with some basic groceries! The bathroom has a tub and a shower, and a skylight! There was nothing short of perfect in her home. We felt so comfortable and loved from the second we arrived. Now on to Gaylene..there are few people you meet in life who will energize you like her. She was so compassionate, empathetic and engaged in our life. (we chose to share it with her!). We were staying there for our first week of moving to SF while finding our own apt and she offered so much help and support. Gaylene is a new life long friend we're excited to see again soon! 100% the best choice we made was staying here!

Hi there, I am a healer, working with Hospice. I am inspired to drink life up, understanding that there is a finite amount of life to be had. I love to travel. My last amazing journey was to the Amazon. Even more memorable than the visual aspects of that trip were the auditory surprises. In addition to the contant vibrational buzzing and hissing in the air, I have 2 words for you, especially if you get to the Amazon: "Howler Monkeys". They truly sound like I imagine dinosaurs would sound. Apparently they get such volume and monster howl from a hole in a bone in their throats. Must be heard to be believed. But I digress! I'm a weekly dancer, pulling out the boots for two step, the retro wear for East Coast swing, and I waltz every chance I get no matter what I'm wearing. I love beautiful found objects. I write poetry and short stories. I have a private psychotherapy practice and teach mindfulness to people who are interested in more resiliency, more ZEST! But I bet if you talked to my friends, they'd note the overall goofy, delighted way I like to carry on with life in general. As Helen Keller said, "Life is a banquet, but most of us are starving to death." So I invite you to come to my home and take a big bite out of life. The time is now.
