We live in a rural area approximately 2 hours drive south from Auckland. Our home is contemporary with a definate seaside feel. We are just metres from a tidal estuary which is very safe for swimming & kayaking.( kayaks are available) There is a hot mineral swimming pool & spa in the next street, a beautiful 8km surf beach within a 6 minute drive, & a lovely little seaside village with interesting boutiques & cafes. Closer to home our walkways are beautiful, along Pohutakwa lined grass areas. Playgrounds within walking distance. Our home will provide you with a relaxed & comfortable stay in a very unique part of The Bay of Plenty.
Our added attraction is the most beautiful Karangahake Gorge. Just 20 minutes drive away. There you can cycle or walk the many trails, enjoying the river & its waterfalls and cafes along the way.
We have past Athenree by many times over the years and our stopover was long overdue. The whole area is a beautiful part of the North Island. The location and hospitality offered by Lyn and Keith was first class. They are a friendly and genuine couple who made us feel very welcome. The impromptu meal on the evening we arrived was most enjoyable and appreciated.
We would love to return sometime in the future. Dawn and Ian
PS Jonty is an added bonus to the homely environment.
What a beautiful place and what a wonderful location, great very clean & spacious room and excellent and very helpful hosts. We love to back one day...
This is probably the best place we stayed in NZ. Keith and Lyn made us feel 100% comfortable in their home and spoiled us with some wine and beer. We used their kayaks to hop across the little bay to go boogie boarding on the surf beach. Both times we were there we had the section of the beach to ourselves. Lovely little restaurants around. We would definitely stay again!
We enjoyed our recent stay with Keith and Lyn. We were made to feel very welcome in their lovely home as soon as we arrived. They were very helpful in offering suggestions for local activities to see and do during our brief 2 day stay. We were definitely spoilt with substantial breakfasts to start our day. An amazing experience in the very quiet and relaxing beachside town of Athenree
My husband and I were lucky enough to stay with Lyn & Keith a few weeks ago. We were on our Honeymoon driving through the North Island of New Zealand and we picked Waihi Beach to spend New Years Eve. Not only did they make us a beautiful dinner but they also drove us to & from a concert in town. Their house is lovely and so warm, we instantly felt like we were at home :) We used their kayaks as transport to & from the beach and shared wine on their porch overlooking the water. We wished we could have stayed longer but I'm afraid if we did we would of never left! Lyn & Keith will always be welcome in our home for providing us with such an amazing experience.
My husband and I were SO lucky to have found Lyn and Keith's hidden gem of an AirBnb. Lyn was more than accommodating with offering to cook us an amazing 3 course dinner for a small additional fee on the evening we arrived. Even after us being almost 2 hours later than we originally thought! After dinner we were able to relax in their spa before settling in to bed for the night. In the morning she had also made warm croissants, home made granola and coffee! Wow! Their dog Jonty was also a highlight of our trip :) Thank you Lyn and Keith for being such gracious hosts! We won't forget our time with you!
A TRUE HOME AWAY FROM HOME - 5 STARS *****
I have recently stayed with Keith & Lyn at their beautiful homestead in Athenree in the Bay of Plenty. Traveling by myself, I felt not only welcome in their home, but they went more than out of their way to accommodate me, from when I first booked till my departure. I even got a little birthday surprise, which really made my day.
I attended a concert at the Waihi Beach Hotel, which is a mere 10-15min drive away; a perfect location to stay if you are going to an event there. It should be noted that there is no public transport between the house and Waihi Beach, so if you are not travelling with your own car I suggest you check with Keith & Lyn first if they can provide a lift before you make a booking.
The house has plenty of space to socialise or relax (as you prefer). I jumped into the spa pool one day, for example, or sat on the deck outside to read a book. I got to meet a few other family members and friends, incl. their two lovely granddaughters, with all of whom I had a fantastic time filled with much laughter and a few good debates.
As for the room, it is very large and features an extremely comfortable queen-size bed suitable for two people. The bathroom is shared between the two B&B rooms and has a steaming hot shower and all other amenities one would expect to find. Overall, the house is tastefully decorated and extremely cosy, always clean and tidy, and provided everything I could have wish for.
If I travel to the Bay of Plenty again, I will most certainly stay with Keith & Lyn and I hope many other travellers will decide to do as well. I COULD NOT RECOMMEND IT MORE.
We were honored to be the first Airbnb guests of Keith & Lyn and we enjoyed our short stop over with them very very much. Not only were we invited to have dinner with Keith & Lyn, but were hosted and entertained by them so well that we really wished we could stay MUCH longer than we actually did. Breakfast was an exceptional treat.
Tip: try Lyn's homemade Granola. It's superbe!
We used both rooms during our stay and enjoyed the tasteful interiour incl. confy beds. The separate bathroom is great and like the rest of the house it is neat and tastefully furnished.
Not to forget Jonty their cute dog: We were very much tempted to invite him to join our trip. :-)
I highly recommend Keith & Lyn as host for your stay in the Bay and would love to come back again one day.
