Good things first: the apartment has a very central location and one bright bedroom. It wasn't expensive.
But. The photographs were misleading. The one bright bedroom was also the sitting/TV/dining room. The second bedroom was gloomy and tiny, with bunk beds and nowhere to sit. Most upsetting was that the small bedroom stank of smoke, and it took a day for the smell to clear.
The cooking area and shower room were part of an equally gloomy corridor and were so small as to be almost impractical. Cooking was limited by lack of equipment - no oven or work area - just a sink and four gas rings run on bottled gas. A washing machine had been squeezed in behind the fridge and the dish drainer placed on top of it. It was almost impossible to reach the high storage to get pans or dishes. Also, it was dirty.
The furnishings were cheap and shabby. The mattress in the small room was stained with nasty stuff.
There was quite a lot of noise from surrounding flats and from the central staircase - I can imagine that, in high season, this would be a problem.
I have stayed in a pension in the same area for about the same price, and the pension was a much more enjoyable experience.
I'm used to basic accomodation, but it should be clean and practical. This apartment wasn't.
Had a great time staying in this basic yet suitable accommodation. Very good value and the location is bang in the centre of town very close to Las Ramblas and Plaza Catalunya. Marc was very good in communicating with us before we arrived and was a very pleasant guy to deal with. The Metro is a 5 minute walk away and you'll be able to visit everywhere from this central hub. If you're wanting luxury maybe look elsewhere but we were very happy with it as we were simply using it as a place to sleep. Apartment was clean, the beds were very comfy and wifi/TV etc was available. Could be a bit noisy in the main sleeping are but nothing too bad, plus it's a city centre so it's to be expected.
Only thing I would warn you about is to be VERY careful when you're walking in the nearby area at night. As it's touristy there are a lot of pickpockets, small time drug dealers, and prostitutes in the area and while we did not feel intimidated or threatened at any point, there is a lot of scum and villainy kicking about the streets near Las Ramblas after dark. This is essentially the same in any city though so while it shouldn't put you off Barcelona or Marc's apartment please bear in mind to guard your pockets at night.
La ubicación es muy buena. los tres pisos por escalera cuestan un poco. Las piezas están bien. Se extraña una mesa para desayunar y comer más cómodos.
There was some misunderstanding with the booking at first but everything was solved eventually. I've never met Marc in person and the person who was in charge does not speak enough English so it was pretty hard to get to them. I told Marc I will be at the apartment by 7:30 and he told me just to ring the door bell when I get there (without further instruction). So when I got to the apartment, I range the doorbell; however, no one answered. I tried to ring the doorbell several times and I even went up to the apartment to knock on the door. However, no one answered. 30 mins have passed, none of my friends have internet access so it was really confusing at first. And finally we were able to obtain internet access and we quickly sent an email letting Marc know that we are already at the apartment waiting and we did not hear back until we were finally let into the apartment and Marc's reply was "I don't understand" (which was not at all helpful). The person who let me and my friends in rushed into the apartment without saying anything about being late or apologize for not being able to be reached. He gave me the keys and a packet of paper of places to go and wifi-pw and left. The apartment was not dirty it was just okay. All the towels that me and my friends got have this weird moldy smell.
The good thing about this apartment is that the location is great. It's right on the street La Ramblas and there is a metro stop right there so it is very easy to get to places. But other than that I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay there. During night time until morning, there were constant loud noises in the building and out on the street. Also, a lot of people would knock and rang the apartment door bell as pranks throughout the night time. It felt like a hostle than a apartment. There are many other places with the similar budget, I would choose somewhere else.
Great location, and very clean. If you have heavy luggage, or are older, you may think twice because of the many steps to access the suite, and no elevator. The kitchen presented a few issues, as there is no available counter space to do anything, and the cupboards are so high that a stool (not provided) is necessary to reach the dishes if you are of average height. Marc is extremely accessible and responsive to requests and needs, though, so we had a good time.
We stayed in Marc's apartment, which is in the middle of all the action on the Ramblas. The accommodations were very basic, which we expected. For the price, it was a good value! My husband and I didn't really spend a lot of time in the apartment, so it worked out well for us. Bring ear plugs - you will need them! Note: We did encounter 3 cockroaches in the apartment. However, Marc was quick to respond in my request for insecticide. After spraying, we didn't see any additional cockroaches.
Das Appartment hat eine super Lage. Man kann alles gut erreichen und ist auch schnell am Hafen.
Es ist zweckmäßig eingerichtet, aber für einen Kurzaufenthalt völlig ausreichend.
