I chose Nomadas because it is in quiet, safe and clean neighborhood. Also it is not too far from the airport. The hostel rooms were clean, neat and comfortable for a reasonable price. Gabriela and Magdalena were gracious hosts who helped plan my itinerary in Costa Rica. The hostel has a family-type atmosphere which is very conducive when one arrives in a foreign country. I enjoyed my stay at Nomadas and would recommend it to others who arrive in San Jose with further travel around Costa Rica. Mucho Gracias!
Gabriel and Magdalena were sweet and wonderful hosts:) the private room (but no private bathroom) was alright in size and the showers were a little cold. but the overall living space was warm, cosy, inviting and created the perfect chill spot as well as a great area to mingle with other travelers. the house is a 5 minute walk + 7 minute bus ride away from the main town area and is a 30 minute bus ride away from the airport it's in a pretty great location too!
This hostel is ideal to start your trip in Costa Rica. It's located in a good neighborhood in San jose. The hostel is clean and has a nice atmosphere. Gabriel and Magdalena are friendly hosts and are willing to help you with all your questions. I would definitely recommend this place to start and end your trip!
Gabriel and Magdalena are very welcoming and helpful - for me the friendliest hostel I stayed at in Costa Rica. Hostel is in a great location and was the perfect place for me to begin and end my trip. Thanks!
Clean, quiet & simple. Gabriel is a great host and very helpful. It is located outside of downtown and has a well stocked supermarket just a block away. The bus to downtown San Jose is only 300 Colones/60 US Cents and only takes a few minutes. Would definitely stay there again.
Gabriel is an amazingly helpful and sincere host with a great sense of humour. The location for me was perfect..i had some dental work done at Prisma Dental..just a short walk from Nomadas.
I would recommend staying here if you enjoy good company and a clean, tranquilo place to during your visit to San Jose.
it was our first time in CR and San Jose. Nomadas is a cheap, basic place a little off from downtown San Jose. Gabriel was very helpful and provided us with all the info we needed to continue on our journey. He even offered us a free stay after we missed our first night due to airline cancellations! The place is recommended for your entry point or just before leaving CR when you're either on your way to or back from all the wonderful parts of the country.
The Nomadas Backpackers Hostel was our last stop in Costa Rica before flying back to the US. My husband and I arrived there on New Year's Eve and were able to walk from the Coca-Cola bus station in about an hour (cabbing would have been faster but we were early so we figured we had time to kill). Gabriel and Magdalena were very welcoming and made us feel at home. They didn't get annoyed when we kept coming and going and ringing the buzzer to get back in, which was very patient of them!
They also offered their house to the night's guests for New Year's Eve celebrations, and though other travelers rang in the new year together in the main room, we were too tired to join them, but we appreciated the offer. It got noisy with fireworks
The location was FANTASTIC- just a couple blocks from a gorgeous park, several restaurants, and other conveniences. We went on a run through the park and walked to the nearby Crown Plaza Hotel for drinks at the lovely bar after dinner.
It was nice to have the private room instead of sharing the dorm-style room with other guests. However, I wish we had known that the private room had all twin beds. We were hoping for a double bed, but luckily we're both pretty petite, so we made it work. The bed was at least comfortable.
I'll echo what others have said about cold showers and a light breakfast, though it was still a good value for our money.
Overall, a comfortable stay, but better for solo travelers or platonic groups than for a married couple.
This place was absolutely bare minimal of what a BnB should be. Even though we had a private room there were sill bunk beds in there. Bathroom were dirty and smelly. Showers were only available during the day and there was NO hot water. In the name of breakfast you get Coffee, Juice and 2 slices of toast and you have to clean your own dishes after you are done.
Only good thing was that beds were clean.
