Fabulous, extremely light and spacious RUSKIN ROOM with small en suite in my apartment built in 1855. Rate includes breakfast. Near Glasgow University in the heart of the West End. City centre 10-15 minutes. I also have another HAMILTON ROOM listed.

A SELF-SERVICE CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST is included in the room rate. The fridge in your room will be stocked with breakfast items for you to sample at your leisure. Breakfast includes: fruit, yogurt, a selection of cereals, bread, butter, marmalade, jam, tea, coffee, milk and orange juice. Please let me know if you have any dietary requirements and I will do my best to accommodate you. I provide semi skimmed milk and generally Irish soda bread, so please let me know if you prefer a different type.
IN THIS VERY LIGHT AND SPACIOUS ROOM there is: a small en-suite shower room; a super king-sized bed; a cupboard to hang clothes in; a chest of drawers; a monitor to watch DVDs on; an armchair with foot stool; a dining table and chairs, a (silent) small fridge, a Nespresso coffee machine, kettle and tea making things. I provide all bedlinen, towels, bathrobes and a hair dryer. The room is lockable and you will be given your own key. There is also WiFi throughout the flat. I have a travel cot available. Please let me know if you would like this and I will reserve it for your room.
WHO LIVES HERE? Myself and sometimes my partner. I have two rooms listed on Airbnb, so I may have guests in the other room during your stay. I also rent a room to an artist friend of mine, which she uses as a painting studio when she is not working as a tutor.
PRIVACY & HOUSEKEEPING. I don't enter the guest room during your stay in order to give you privacy. If you are staying for a week or more, I will arrange for a convenient time to clean your room and change the bed linen.
MY GUESTS ARE WELCOME TO MAKE USE OF the kitchen (including tea, coffee, sugar, milk, herbs, spices and oils). I keep a shelf free in one of the kitchen cupboards for your groceries and also a shelf in the kitchen fridge. The living room is for the hosts use only, but the guest rooms are spacious and the dining kitchen is large enough to hang out in. I aim to make you to feel at home here. I provide semi skimmed milk, so please let me know if you prefer a different type.
Interaction with Guests
I LIKE TO GREET GUESTS MYSELF. If I can't be at home when you would like to arrive, I use the key safe box next to the front door. I would arrange this in advance, email you the security code for the box and be able to give a rough time of when I will be back to meet you.
I supply a Glasgow map, a print out of my local guidebook and any advice about the city requested. I always stay in the flat on your first night and occasionally spend a night away if I am visiting friends, etc. but would discuss this with you before making plans.
Check-in is 14:00 hours onwards and check-out by 11:00. If you would like to arrive before this time, please get in touch and I will see if it is possible. In any case, you can drop luggage off and collect keys earlier if it suits you.
After check out, I am happy for you to leave your luggage for collection later in the day if that helps.
THE LOCAL AREA has a good mix of small independent shops and quality high street names. It is a foodies' heaven with two specialist cheese shops, butchers, vegetable and whole-food shops, numerous delicatessens and stores such as Waitrose and Marks and Spencer. There are also wonderfully atmospheric second hand book shops, vintage and retro clothing stores, gift shops, jewellers and of course plenty of coffee shops, restaurants and bars. There are a wide range of places to eat from great value budget to widely acclaimed, well established restaurants. Five of Trip Advisor’s top ten restaurants in Glasgow are within 15 minutes walk. Nearby Ashton Lane is great for visiting during the day and evening for shopping, coffee, eating, drinking and catching a film at the Grosvenor Cinema. Music and plays can be found at Oran Mor, Kelvinbridge and Cottiers theatres and various pubs also hold more informal music sessions.
LOCAL ATTRACTIONS INCLUDE: the Botanic gardens with its lovely tea room terrace; Kelvingrove Park with great views from the top of the hill and Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery; Glasgow University and both its Hunterian Museum and Hunterian Art Gallery with its must see reconstruction of the Architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh's house; the Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena (I've only ever played table tennis there!) and the River Kelvin Walkway which runs along the river and joins up with the Forth and Clyde Canal and forms part of the Cycle Path Network.
A LITTLE FURTHER AFIELD, about 25 minutes walk away, will take you down to the River Clyde. Along the waterfront there is plenty to do from visiting museums (Riverside Museum of Transport, Tall Ship Museum, Science Centre) to attending shows and exhibitions (Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, Clyde Auditorium, IMAX cinema) a tour around the BBC Scotland building or even a trip on the Waverley, the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world. In the direction of town you can visit the National Trust Tenement House, Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Glasgow School of Art and Willow Tea Rooms, as well as a range of art galleries, cinemas, theatres, clubs, music venues and world class shopping!
THERE ARE EXCELLENT TRANSPORT LINKS with bus stops right outside (8-15 mins to city centre), Kelvinbridge underground station 5 minutes walk (6 mins to centre), 20-25 minutes walk into the city centre and a short drive to join the M8 motorway at Junction 17. Also Glasgow airport is only 20 mins away by taxi or about 40 mins by public transport.
There is metered parking on the surrounding streets.
FREE ON-STREET PARKING is available 5 minutes walk away on Queen Margaret Drive. It is also free to park on Great Western Road on Sundays and from 6:30pm to 7:00am daily.
The parking meters on Hamilton Park Avenue only operate from 8:00am to 10:00pm, so it is free outwith these hours.
PARKING METERS CHARGE 20p for the first 30 minutes then 20p per 10 minutes after that for a maximum of 3 hours. Alternatively, you can purchase visitor's parking permits from me when you arrive at cost price. They are £2.00 each and are available for three different time periods:
Afternoon 12 noon-6pm
Other Things to Note
JUST TO LET YOU KNOW, there are a couple of negatives which also have plus points. As I live near a main road in a great area with bars and restaurants nearby it can be noisy with traffic and revellers at night. This tends to be more so from Friday - Monday, students Freshers week in early September and when students finish their exams at the end of the summer term. Also, the flat is located on the second floor with two flights of stairs and no lift, but the extra light does make the interior brighter. The en-suite shower room is lovely but very small. There is a step to get into the shower and the opening between the doors is not very wide. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
1) No smoking.
2) Do not flush any sanitary or foreign items down the toilet as the en-suite has very sensitive plumbing. Toilet paper is fine!
3) No parties and you must ask me before inviting anyone else into the flat.
4) As I have a high security lock on the front door, if the key is lost I would need to replace the whole lock at a cost of £80 and take this from the deposit.
I have happily shared my home with a variety of people over the years and hosting with Airbnb feels like a natural extension of this. After studying textile design at Glasgow School of Art I have had a number of creative jobs (Art Department in Film & TV, Design Assistant, Floristry...) and am now self employed working on various projects including Charles Rennie Mackintosh architectural tours. I walk pretty much everywhere in the city so can give a bit of guidance in terms of destinations etc. I look forward to welcoming you into my home.
