This lovely family run farmhouse Bed only in newlands Valley, close to Keswick and Derwentwater.
This is a perfect spot for an "away from it all" holiday - yet the town of Keswick is just 15 minutes away, and there is a pub within easy walking distance.
There was a wide and shallow lake here at one time, 'Husaker Tarn', but it was drained in the 13th Century by the monks of Furness Abbey to make new land for cultivation - hence the "Newlands" Valley. The name of the tarn survives in the name of Uzzicar Farm.
The farmhouse dates from the 16th Century and the thick walls and original oak beams and low ceilings contribute to the character of the accommodation.

This was a very average place to stay. We emailed Helen for directions prior to coming and she didn't respond, luckily we found a map with Uzzicar on there and found our way. The bedroom we stayed in was much was smaller than photos show and definitely not recently refurbished as the website states.
Bed was comfortable and in a beautiful location
The stay was just what we needed - I was foolhardy enough to be swimming in the 10k Buttermere Open water race, which was conveniently just down the road. Helen made us very welcome and the room was clean and comfortable.
Lovely room with fantastic views. Helen made us feel welcome and was even able to provide a travel cot for our baby - much appreciated!
Helen and his family are very nice people. We felt like home staying at their farm.
Location is a bit detached form the town (like 5 minutes by car) but this was an advantage for us. Beautiful mountains and close to the nature. A bit hard to find so do you research on google map before coming! GSM network seems to be quite weak in that area.
Room was clean, comfortable and had all we needed including tea & coffee. No issues at all. We had continental breakfast, which was good.
A lot of parking space if you care ;-)
Great place to rest if you want to be far away from the crowd (but still be able to get to the pub in couple of minutes). Highly recommended!
What a perfect location! As walkers without a car, we were perfectly placed for Barrow, Catbells & Derwent Water, easy access to Keswick via the Keswick Launch service and delicious pub meals to be found in Swinside and Braithwaite.
Helen is friendly and helpful, the continental breakfast choice is wide, but Helen also does an excellent scrambled eggs and sausage! The room is cosy and warm - perfect after a long day's hiking!
Thank you for a wonderful Easter weekend!
