What to do at Harmony....
One of the favorites of Harmony guests is to awaken before dawn and watch the early light lift the mist over the ocean of rice a few meters below the expansive decks with coffee in hand. It's an experience like no other in Bali. Stay long enough and you'll experience the whole cycle of rice cultivation from planting to harvesting and the local religious festivals celebrating Bali's unique cultural heritage.
Harmony is located on the edge of a huge rice paddy in the village of Lodtunduh, about 2 km from Ubud and not far from the Monkey Forest and all the world class shopping on Hanuman Street and the cultural activities and restaurants in Ubud. We are very centrally located for all of Bali's sights and activities. Sanur beach is close (about 12 miles) and Seminyak. Kuta and Legian are easy drives for a whole day out with a different vibe. Or you can go up the hill to Kintamani and the hot springs at Lake Batur in an hour or so. Temples abound everywhere - from Besakih, the "Mother Temple" to Tanah Lot on the ocean (two of the most famous and holy) and we can organize tours to anywhere on the island and to Lombok too....
It's slightly cooler in the Ubud area than the beach. A/C is not needed at Harmony due to our location right on the edge of the rice fields. We almost always get a breeze and the villas have powerful overhead fans and high ceilings to keep the air flowing. You'll find our design for indoor/outdoor living works for your comfort.
Your retreat stay includes daily breakfast *, free wifi, laptop sized safes, fully equipped kitchens, towels, TV/DVD, parking, laundry (by arrangement), daily staff service, a yoga deck, lush landscaping and the priceless ambience of the Harmony lifestyle.
*Villa Jiwa breakfast is additional

A rare private gem in Ubud, Harmony is the perfect size for a small group retreat or an individual stay .
Guests can use all the facilities at Harmony. The infinity pool on the edge of the ricefields is very large and shared with the other villas but always feels private. All our villas are private.
I'm not always in Bali but our staff will look after you hand and foot. If I'm there I'm always available to give you tips and pointers on the best way to maximize your stay in Ubud and Bali.
Our village is still mostly agricultural and its a fascinating place to experience real Bali village life which can't be found in touristy areas such as Kuta or Seminyak. That's the lovely thing about our area of Lodtunduh village.
You'll likely encounter ceremonies, celebrations, weddings, a cremation perhaps (a big event in Bali) , the local temple festivals.
but most of all you'll see (depending on when you visit) the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying. You'll see the village men parade their fowl and perhaps experience a cockfight - you can wager and maybe win- (I did on my very first trip to Bali!)
There's a taxi service right in our village to take you to and from the airport and into town a few minutes away and we can also rent you scooters (and helmets!) for about $6 per day. There's parking at the villa and airport pickup is about $30. Even though its only about 20 miles it can- take about an hour and a half! The roads are small and there's lots of traffic in Bali.
Each villa is named after a different feeling we got when we built them...
Jiwa means "spirit" (it's a lovely hideaway)
Asmara mean "romance"(it's our honeymoon villa)
Jantung means "heart - (it's in the middle)
One of the very best places we have ever stayed. There are not enough superlatives.
Beautiful. Quiet. Clean. Impeccable service. Friendly. 10 minutes to Ubud.
Great cooked to order breakfast.
Wonderful location beside tranquil working rice paddies, Beautiful Sunsets (west facing.).
would recommend 120% !! (typo intended.)
Value for money.
There is something very soulful about this special place on the outskirts of Ubud. It sits adjacent to a wide, beautiful swath of rice paddies that are full of life day and night: Duck parades, beautiful birds, croaking frogs, other living creatures including local residents who work the paddies and also walk between them. It's quite a lovely, peaceful, joyful view. Authentic. The villa and property measure up to the owner's description. He has created a beautiful destination here. Everything works. What makes it sing, though, is the helpful, happy, gracious staff. Want a taxi? A motorbike? Breakfast on your deck? A cook to come in the evening?. Some may want the convenience of being in the core of Ubud. For us, the Bali rice paddy exposure and experience proved to be a special alternative to Bali beaches. A cab for approximately $4 gets you anywhere in town.
Room was nice and clean with a good bed and in a beautiful setting.
The thing is, none of those are in short supply in Ubud.
The trouble for this place is that it is a long walk from ANYTHING.
If you want a honeymoon retreat, stay here and get your food delivered. And there's no way around the fact that this room was ovepriced. Maybe if you were in one of the others with a kitchen, but they stuck us in the only room that didn't have one, although all the other rooms were empty while we were there. And we had our 3 yr old with us. If anything screams for a good-service upgrade, that's it.
In a vacuum, maybe this place would merit 4 but this isn't a vacuum. Its Bali. Yes its full of overpriced retreats but its also full of gems. Usually the difference lies in bringing the price down with the season and providing really good service. Harmony villas came up short...
Our stay at Villa Sungai was incredible. Michael was a dream to work with during the entire booking process and seemed to answer my questions quicker than I could press send.
When we arrived to the property, we received a warm welcome from the villa staff, who showed us our home for the week and greeted us with delicious, freshly made fruit smoothies to enjoy on our patio overlooking the rice paddies. We received nothing but that level of care for the remainder of our stay -- whether it was the fantastic breakfast prepared for us each morning, arranging transportation or helping us with translation.
The villa and grounds were absolutely gorgeous -- photos cannot do this scene justice. Harmony is truly the best of both worlds: you'll feel like you have a luxury resort to yourself, while the sights and shopping of Ubud are a 15-20 minute walk (or a very quick cab or scooter ride away).
The harshest reality check was waking up in my own bed the morning after I returned home and realizing I was no longer at Sungai! I am going to miss my mornings waking up with the adorable villa dog, Trixie, and closing each evening with a nightswim in the villa pool. Harmony will now be the "happy place" I daydream about while stuck in the long, dreary winter months!
Our stay at harmony was spectacular! My family and I enjoyed privacy and amazing views - truly a peaceful setting. Wayan and the rest of the staff were so kind-hearted and pleasant. Food was wonderful, massages by Komang perfect....and the proximity to ubud central afforded us tiny breaks without disturbing our goal of doing nothing (mostly!). We will certainly recommend to friends who will travel this way in the near future and look forward to returning. Many thanks to Michael for arranging and kudos to him for choosing such a perfect location.
Fantastic place with attention to detail. Best part was that the LED light installation which did not attract any bugs. Clever. Million $ view is not an overstatement. Children enjoyed the pool and lounging around with Trixie. I enjoyed the daily breakfast, home made meals delivered to the villa and endless opportunity to lounge while contemplating life. My favorite memory remains swimming under the stars every night.
Michael made fantastic recommendations - diving was easily arranged. Mosaic dinner was divine. Our staff onsite were pleasant, friendly and helpful.
The villa had sweeping view of the rice paddy. Exceptionally beautiful day AND night.
Children did not want to leave. They loved the place. And trixie the dog.
Will recommend it to everyone who wants to travel to Bali.
Lovely quiet place for honeymooners, make sure that you rent a car/motor bike since the villa not at the the main road.
It's 5-10min away from central Ubud and there's lots of great food + shops at Ubud.
Great setting in the rice-paddies. Super private and cozy. Lovely design. The villa is tranquil calm and the pool was sublime in the evenings. Watching fireflies hover in the evening while wading in the infinity pool was the highlight.
We had a lovely relaxing stay at Harmony Villas. They are so quiet and peaceful and the staff are amazing.. We will definitely stay there again......
Amazing place with fantastic view. The breakfast is really good and the staff is friendly and really helpful. The only small issue will be the water pressure for the shower is kinda low but that's not a big deal for us. The most amazing part is sitting on the beanbag and enjoying the view and fresh air.We have our wonderful stay at Michael's villa and will definitely recommend to anyone who want to experience the true beauty of Ubud.
