Description

The space

A charming three bedroom house on the best street in San Miguel de Allende, GTO Mexico. Short walk to the jardin (central square), Instituto Allende, and Parque Juarez. Great shopping and restaurants within a couple of blocks.
Airy, light three-story home, large living room-dining room, two master suites, one with king, one with queen on the second floor, two gardens on ground level and terrace on second floor (has washer/dryer). Fully equipped main kitchen with dishwasher, 3 1/2 baths. Top floor could be separate apartment with own kitchen, bath, and daybed with trundle, or a fantastic artist studio! Purified water in all taps, utilities, WIFI, and housekeeping included.

One of the three sofas in the living room is a hide-a-bed. There is also a foam pad in the closet upstairs that could be used as a bed.

Guest access

Access to the entire house, minus one locked closet with our stuff. Use supplies in the kitchen, replace in kind. We want you to feel at home. Bienvenido!

Interaction with guests

We are not in the house when guests are there, but are happy to talk with guests beforehand. We hope you treat the house as you would your own. Nuestra casa es tu casa.

The neighborhood

Our house is in Colonia San Antonio, one block from the Ancha, the border street to Centro, a wide street that becomes Salida a Celaya at Sterling Dickinson. Our house is on a wonderful, quiet street with great neighbors that is a one-block walk to the Instituto. There are many restaurants and shops of all kinds within a couple of blocks, including food stores, Farmacia Guadalajara, and vegetable stands.

Getting around

There are buses on Orizaba and on the Ancha that can take you almost anywhere in San Miguel. Walking on the relatively even and flat streets in the neighborhood is how we get around. A delightful park two blocks up Avenida Allende features the San Antonio Church, a beautiful and loved landmark. Great place to sit and watch the children and birds playing in the fountain!

Other things to note

Just about everything you need is in the house for an enjoyable stay. Ask if you have questions about what to bring.

Our wonderful housekeeper, Estela, is there three days per week. She has studied massage and can give your body comfort with her magic hands for $400 pesos an hour. Please be generous in tipping her. I give her 500 pesos per week (about $25 USD) for her tip.

Everything about our experience was great. Casa Gladiolis is nicer in real life than what the photos show. It's always hard to tell how well organized and clean somebody else's home is but this place is extremely clean. Nora has a binder explaining everything, including emergency numbers to local trusted doctors. She has two people who oversee the house so while we didn't have any problems at all, if anything would have happened we are sure we would have had help. The location of the house is perfect! It is just a few blocks outside the main square but we preferred that to avoid all the noise and bars but yet close enough to enjoy it all. We would be more than happy to return again to Casa Gladiolis which is such an excellent place. The rooms and spaces are even more spacious than what the photos describe. Even before we arrived we knew we were in great hands. Nora contacted us way ahead of time and explained everything in detail and gave us very detailed directions, local phone numbers and contacts to make sure we had no trouble. Upon arrival we met with Estela, the person who oversees the house and she explained every detail very well. She was there exactly at the time when we expected and our welcoming was very smooth. She had prepared even a snack and fresh made lemonade! If you decide to stay at Casa Gladiolis you won't regret your experience!

Response from LeoNora:
Hi Francisco, I am so glad you found the house clean, organized, and more spacious than you expected. We love this home and enjoy being there. It's wonderful to share it with people like you who appreciate it! Estela is indeed a gem. Did your wife have one of her massages? Next time you come, she definitely has to try the hot stone massage. You feel like you have gone to heaven and back! Estela has magic hands. And I do hope you come again. It has been a pleasure communicating with you and learning about your beautiful family. Warmly, Nora

Amazing experience; amazing house. Nora made me feel right at home in her home, helping me to get acquainted with the house over message. This house was more than large enough for me and my friends, who were in SMA to shoot a film. We used the home as our home base as well as our make-shift production office. The location of the house is excellent, just far out enough from the centro to have blissful quiet rest, yet close enough to walk to any destination in the city. The photos are quite accurate, although they exclude the wonderful roof terrace area. We were also very grateful to get to know Estela who helped us clean the house and even gave my friend a massage! Also, all of the modern appliances helped us to keep focus on our work - dishwasher, washer and dryer, endless hot water - this things became essential as we found ourself working into the late night hours strapped for time. Thank you Nora for letting us use your home!!

My host was the most lovely person you can imagine, the neighborhood and street could not have been more convenient, safe or pleasant and the house is perfectly maintained and cheerful and comfortable.
